I believe bottled water is just for the money tap water can be sterilized also by boiling it.

i use filtered water at home but still use bottle water when I go to ball games and other outdoor activities.

I think you waste a lot of money on bottled water when there have been studies done that bottled water isn't anymore purified then tap water. We have a PUR system on our faucet at home. I use that water for everything, even out of my sons sippy cups. Our water is safe to drink from the tap anyways.

I like our tap water and I know it is safe. They even bottle our tap water. It is from an underground spring. I don't like some bottled water it doesn't taste as fresh.

You are right... there isn't a company in the world tapping mountain springs to bottle and sell.

I think most of the bottles water is probably tap water from somewhere. I also have a purified system for my tap water. If you have a well, you might want to buy water for drinking.

Haha I did an experiment on this in my microbiology class! Every student brought in their favorite brand of bottled water and milk sample to test. A few bottled water brands had bacterial colonies form on the agar plates, as well as a few tap water samples. Even with pasteurization, almost all of the milk samples also showed large amounts of bacteria.
Bottled water is required by federal law to be AS SAFE as tap water. However, bottled water companies have weaker rules than the EPA rules for city tap water. Tap water must be tested 100 times or more a month for pathogens, while bottled water plants are only required to test once weekly. Those students that came in with filtered tap water had similar results to those with bottled water. They're basically the same- just use a filter when drinking from tap!

Bottled water is convenient. However, those companies make so much money off of this. Why not boil the water or buy a filtration system for your house and use that water. Just carry it in a bottle or other container.

I STOPPED BUYING BOTTLED WATER. I BOUGHT A FILTER FOR MY FAUCET AND EVERYTHING IS GREAT.

I drink both but mostly tap water that I keep in a 2 liter bottle. When I'm out and about i also carry bottled water.

In many cases bottled water is tap water. I wish I would have thought of putting plain water in a plastic bottle and selling it.

Some bottled waters deliver an exceptionally pure product but scientists are finding that we ne some of the chemicals that tap water contains. I don't think that 'just' boiling water purifies it to a degree that may bottled waters are at because many f them also go through filterng prcss as well as coming fr a better source that has no been exposed to many of the contaminants contaned within sources from different areas...especiallylower lying areas that seem to gather polution.

Yes, bottled water is better than tap water. Look for filtration systems. Distilled water is the best water you can have. Look it up at Wiki-Distilled water.

I think workers at the bottled water plants fill the bottles with tap water and then make a heck of a profit!

It's convenient but overpriced. If you don't trust tap water, use a filter then bottle it! :)

Bottled water is such a waste of money and resources. You should only really use it if you will be in a location where water quality is questionable. I drink regular tap water and if you want filters will do the same as bottled water sometimes even better. Most bottled water is simply tap water put in a tiny plastic bottle and sealed. It isn't magic or special water. It is just like your tap water. Get a filter if you don't like the taste of tap water and get a reusable water bottle to bring it with you.

Yes I do have you ever fixed a glass of tap water and glass of bottled water and tasted it, very big difference in taste and look.

Really depends on where you live. In my area, the tap water is just as good as the bottled stuff, but Ive lived in a few places where bottled water was a must for safety.

It's really a matter of preference. I seriously doubt bottle water is less sterlized than tap water considering that tap water (at least in the dc metro area) is recycled sewer water (no lie do your homework!) where as bottled water is from a pure water source (see deerpark for example.) Bottle water companies will suffer more lawsuits from consumers if way too many people become seriously ill while drinking their water (they also have stock to consider). You're welcome to try and sue your water company if way too may get sick but I seriously doubt you'll win.

Nice one lol ! I agree the only way you would ever for sure have fresh spring water is if you own one yourself. Water rights are all gone to any land you buy these days though. I have only ever seen ONE listing for a place that still had the water and mineral rights and the price for it was insane but imho well justified.

This is a good question. Something we take for granted when we buy bottled water is that it has been completely purified. I know we can get the readouts from the companies. I'm sorry to say I can't completely buy that, my solution is to boil the purified water that you buy. I think tap water from the cities is fairly clean but there is always danger of contamination. We trust these companies too much.

Coming from someone who use to drink out of a hose when I was little, I am not picky. I like bottled water, but I also have no problem getting a drink from the sink.

I think bottled water is not significantly more sterile than tap water. They gather bottled water from springs. Bottled water still has its impurities but I have noticed that I don't taste the chlorine in bottle water like I do in tap water.

Wow back up a step. It's a known fact that some bottled water comes straight out of the tap. Not filtered at all.

I think some bottled water companies truly get their water from natural springs, like Poland Springs, and others just sterilize tap water and pretend it came from a natural spring, like Aquafina.

I think bottled water can be more sterilized depending on who it comes from. There are others out there who just put tap water instead of the claimed natural spring water. I drink both tap and bottled water and to me it doesn't really matter because it's all water but I do have preferences in taste. Some bottled water tastes horrible while some tap water tastes too metallic. I guess it's where you get if from.

I stay away from bottled water.
It's put into PET or PETE bottles (check the bottom)
A lot of people where they are manufactured get sick.
FDA does not thoroughly regulate or test the water ... the companies self regulate and report.
The petroleum in the plastics can leech out into the water ... that's too risky for me.
I have seen how some towns are just raped for their water and then shipped across seas.
It was a great money maker but I think tap water is safer and will stick to it.
Tap water is highly regulated!

I do not think bottled water is more sterilize than tap water. I don't believe it is possible for the bottled water companies to check the quality of each bottle that leaves their plant. Furthermore, how safe is storing water in a plastic bottle? If the plastic bottle gets hot, it can deposit cancer- causing plastic into the water. Most tap water put into a stainless steel bottle for drinking is safer than bottled water.

I don't think bottled water is any better than sterilized tap water. Whoever started this bottle water thing is rich today, but we don't know if the water is sterilized or not, we buy it because we like the idea of drinking sterilized water. :wave:

Our tap water is nasty tasting! And I have noticed the different apts we have moved into the water leaves a red streak or ring in the toilets & sinks.YUK! I cook with it but I buy bottled water just for drinking.I am really not into having to boil water all the time.Plus it creates too much humidity inside.

I think it depends on where you live. For example, I live in Hawaii, so the tap water here isn't so bad. In the mainland it's different, tap water tastes bad over there. You could heat up tap water to sterlize it, but it's the toxins I'm worry about. Those can't be destroyed by heat.

An article I read stated that fact that:
Bottled water is checked 52 times per year (about once a week) for quality.
Tap water is constantly monitored and checked every 6 minutes for quality. Also the statistics are printed yearly for the mineral and chemical content in the water.
I think it is pretty obvious which is better.
Those who buy bottled water are a bunch of fools. If you want to filter your water buy a filter for your tap. Oh and by the way bottles are made from plastic which is derived from oil. Do you really think it is safe to store that water for long periods of time in it? How long do you think they stay in the bottles before you drink it? Think about all that oil used to make the bottles that isn't being used for your car and is being tossed on the side of the road or into a land fill. Think about it. Tap water just makes more sense. Don't be fooled by propaganda from the bottling companies since they want to make money off of a resource you can get from your own sink for cheaper.

I drink bottled water now that I moved down to Georgia. However, while growing up in NYC, all we drank is tap water and it was and still is delicious. NYC has some of the best water around. Wish I lived back there so I wouldn't have to buy bottled water anymore.

The bottled water industry know they have tapped into a gold mine. In reality, we really don't know how sterilize bottle water is.

Well I don't know what water is better for you but I drink both tap and bottled water. I know when you live in a community they store there water in a tank but now where my sister lives she has her own well which is cased in so many feet. I do think filtering your water is a good idea though because of the fact we just don't know unless we work in the field of water bottleing or a person who checks cities for the water than we can't be sure.

NO...THE TAP WATER GOES THROUGH A BIG FILTERING SYSTEM, AND WE PAY MONEY EVERY MONTH FOR THE PROCESS, BOTTLE WATER WAS JUST ANOTHER WAY OF TAKING PEOPLES MONEY. :BangHead: I PAY ABOUT $45 A MONTH FOR MY WATER, SO I'M DRINKING IT FROM THE TAP.

Actually i prefer tap water...some of those bottle waters taste like plastic

I only drink bottled water when I am out somewhere and my water jug is empty. We mostly drink artesian water which I feel very fortunate to be able to get! I don't think bottled water is any better for you than tap water. As far as sterilization, who really knows?

I don't drink water...I'm more of a mountain dew girl myself. But I think water is water whether it's in a bottle or from the tap.
