I feel like such a moron right now. :BangHead: I was going up to the store to get some breakfast this morning when I encountered two people in a nice truck selling home audio systems. Cut to the chase I need home audio for my house and the box looked legit with things on it saying "2010 Audio/Video Installers Top Pick", 1500 watt, 6 speakers, powered sufwoofer, and price tag of 2500 on the box. He wanted 600 dollars, and I finally gave in at 200 bucks. I took it home and looked it up on the internet to see what a great deal I got. The first thing that pops up is SCAM. :BangHead: I realized it was worthless when I opened the box and no HDMI like advertised, apparently the system is worth 30 bucks at most. I didn't think I was gullible until today. So stupid. :( If you look on the internet for Paramax you will see the numerous posts on this scam.

"Two people in a nice truck" should've been your red flag. Why didn't you buy it from a store or online?

That was your first mistake there buddy. Don't buy anything being sold out of a vehicle. 99% of the time it's going to mean some form of trouble. Sorry you fell into their trap though. Hopefully you can make your money back right here on FC. Better get started on offers!

today with ebay, plus other sites, you dont have to look far, if its cheaper its probaley stolen

Buying something from a truck is not the smartest thing to do. If it isn't a scam, they probably stole it.

I only bought something from a truck once before about 10 years ago and it was an emachines computer which is a low end computer brand, but it worked just fine and I got a great deal on it. I don't exactly have the money at the moment to be buying a nice audio system from the store. I'm kicking myself right now. What really fooled me was the packaging, claims on the box, and how realistic it looks. It was actually opened in front of me to show me the speakers, but ah......tired of talking about this now. Definitely in the top three of the stupidest things I've ever done. :(

THE RED FLAG SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHEN THEY AGREED TO SETTLE FOR "$200" FOR THAT TYPE OF SYSTEM AND SELLING OUT OF TRUCK IS THE OTHER RED FLAG. NEVER, NO WAY TO PAY MONEY TO PEOPLE LIKE THAT. I GUESS THE NICE TRUCK DID IT FOR YOU, DIDN'T IT?

I agree totally! I just make it a habit of my everyday life and routine (sorry if I sound selfish) to never talk to strangers or help anyone! The less people you deal with, the less problems you have. :angry7:

That's why they have craigslist now, so you have time to look up to see what the real cost it would be >.<

I'm sorry you got scammed. That really really sucks. I have never been in a situation like that before, so I don't know that I would have done anything different. However, I rarely talk to people I do not know. Call my cynical, but I always expect bad before good.

Sorry to hear this happened to you!
Haste makes waste. I am sure it was probably and accidental impulse buy.
But you have now learned your lesson, hopefully.
You have to treat what you want like something you need.
Examine and check everything out, so money is just tossed and you're still out cash.
I am a research hog with everything I buy that comes with a higher price tag.
Especially to make sure it's exactly what I want and need.

The guys selling speakers out of a white van scam has been going on for over 20 years. Can't believe you never heard of it. Just google "White Van Speakers" They have an entire dedicated Wikipedia entry about it as the first hit.
Bummer you fell for it.

Don't beat yourself up! We all get scammed; but, let it be LESSON LEARNED!! Sorry to hear that! :crybaby2:

It was too good to be true. It is a shame you had to learn the hard way never buy anything off the streets. Maybe someone can learn by your mistake thanks for sharing it.
