I think that kids need one-on-one with the teachers and even though the computer is great I do not think that it should eliminate the actual classroom.   I heard the other day that some schools in the Los Angeles area are cutting teaching handwriting pendmenship to the kids, that is sad.

The online K-12 schools in my area offer a building with recreation and study areas; they require the parents to drop them off there at least twice a week (and sign them in/out) to socialize or study with other children. (This is according to a parent in the apt. complex I live in.)

I am against an online education. I think there is a lot that is given through personal contact with the teacher. An online education is the same as reading a book on the subject. The classroom experience learning and interacting with your peers is an important part of the experience as well. I think the online and the classroom can work together and enhance the learning experience.  :)

Maybe for kids, but all I know is I have learned more online that made me money than I ever did going to college and getting a degree.

Online education is good but I believe children need to be able to interact with others before they isolate themselves.  Now I did take an online course in Accounting.  I got my associates degree that way, but to me it was more difficult than actually going to a school and seeing the instructor in person.  If you had questions sometimes it take the instructor toget back to you in two days and thats not good if you have an asianment is due, For younger kids school is better for them.  Other wise they won't now how to interact with people when it is time for them to get out in the real world.  You have to have social skills in todays world to get a job.  I know you can earn money on the internet but its not the same.  I noticed that some feel they have learned more from the internet to earn money than going to college but the already had the social skills to do that there has to be a balance.  I allowed my son to socialize with friends on the internet but he still had to go to school and he did and graduated in 2010 I am so proud.  He met his girlfriend on facebook and than we went and met her in person she was only 38 miles away and she is a wonderful person I also met her parents in person so I think if people do that it would be ok.

I don't think that online schools are much different than home schooling. You would still have to make sure that your child was involved in outside activities like sports or art so that they could have peer socialization. The major difference is that the risk of having your child get caught up "in a bad crowd" would be significantly reduced since they are going to be socializing with those that are dedicated to extracurricular activities and less likely to be doing drugs or spray painting historical landmarks. JMO though.

i think kids need the structure of school and the social aspects that are not necessarily taught in the classroom.
Online classes for some of their school work (a mix) might work for some kids.
I did online graduate school and it was  nice--- now I teach online as well so it can work!  :)

Online education can be very difficult because there is no direct contact with the teacher.  My thoughts were centered on online degrees not all of one's schooling done online.  That just seems like a difficult feat.

It has pros and cons. Helps kids in rural communities conference in on classes they wouldnt have otherwise. Teaches kids about the technology that they will need to learn. Requires a lot of self motivation though.

I think that online education is great because it's learn as you go.
The problem is the overpriced charges, from something that is 1/3-1/4 price of being on a campus.
It just is so much cheaper to be on a physical campus which you think would be vice versa. I guess
convenience comes with a lot higher price.

it's not always learn as you go -- depends on the program and how intense/structured it is.  AND you have to be independently motivated to put the time into it that is necessary to really learn

I would think learning in an actual classroom would benefit more than online classes. Distractions at home is my main problem haha.
