Title: 3rd degree burns
Post by: g0ku4life on August 07, 2011, 12:11:14 pm: So long story short, I had a cooking accident and burned my forearm on our electric burner on our stove and I have 3rd degree burns on my arm. They gave me stuff for pain obviously, but have any of you had them and how long did they take to heal? I'm supposed to go to a burn center to follow up with them.

Post by: kangagirl1321 on August 07, 2011, 12:39:32 pm: they take about a month or 2 to heal properly and u will need to not pop the blisters. trust me. DONT POP THE BLISTERS>!!

Post by: Annella on August 07, 2011, 12:53:03 pm: Nothing is more painful than being burned. Take care of that arm and do EVERYTHING the Doc tells you to. You want that to heal with as little scarring as possible. I had a sunburn one time that was so bad, I couldn't even stand a sheet on me. My shoulders had blisters all over them. I fell asleep in the sun for hours. That was before people were barely concerned with such things, and SPF protection was not out yet.

Post by: lvstephanie on August 08, 2011, 08:34:50 am: Wow! Are you sure you have 3rd degree burns? That's where the skin is leathery, and close to charring... I know a lot of people say they have 3rd degree burns but usually it is just 2nd degree where the skin forms blisters. If it is true 3rd degree burns, then you should definitely go to the burn center... They may have to excise the part of the skin that has died and perhaps put in place a skin graft. This would indeed take several months to heal and may require some type of physical therapy to ensure that the skin remains supple enough to use your arm without opening up the wound again. Post by: kords21 on August 08, 2011, 08:37:59 am: Get to that burn center ASAP. I used to work in the Army burn unit. Let me tell ya, it's not so much the burn that really messed people it was the infection that would set in. Don't delay anything abou this, get it treated ASAP

Post by: g0ku4life on August 08, 2011, 10:04:50 am: Yes, it is a 3rd degree burn for sure because I went to the ER right after doing it because my skin was totally white and leathery. The DR said it was 3rd degree mixed with 2nd and 1st in other spots

Does that cause more scarring or what? I haven't been doing it, but just wondering.
