Tired of *bleep* Communications phone service so I canceled them yesterday and bought Magic Jack today at Walmart. 20 bucks unlimited nationwide calling with long distance included for anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. You can choose your own number for 10 dollars additional per year or for 3 dollars you can choose just the last four digits from a list of available numbers. I've probably made 40 calls today to test it out and it's awesome. Same clear speech and no dropped calls. It shows up on my laptop when someone is calling in addition to the normal phone ringing. I was paying 30 dollars a month and now it's just 20 dollars a year. 8) That is a savings of over 300 dollars a year. Another cool thing is you can take your magic jack anywhere such as a hotel when your traveling to make calls from your number. I do travel quite a bit so this is nice. The only downside is that you have to have your internet running to get service which is a cost of electricity, but we have our internet running nearly 24/7 anyway.

HECK YEAH IT IS! I've had it for over 2 years now. Never had a problem and its only 20$ a year!!!!!!!!!! i love it

I've had it for about a half a year, no problem at all with it. In fact, as soon as I got it I stopped getting all those annoying advertiser's phone calls. You can only call and receive calls while you computer is on, but you still get voice mail that you can access as soon as you turn on your computer in case you miss a call.

Wow, That sounds great.I did not know you could buy magic jack at Walmart.

I'm happy with my phone service because I just pay $10 a month. The only bad deal about it is that I don't have long distance and caller ID. Oh well, I'm not on the phone all the time and I don't talk to many people anyways. So, it works out for me :)

I tried it once....didnt work for me. the calls were staticy, not all calls would connect. i think i returned it the same day. >:(

my husband wants to try it but im not sure about it

From what I've read if you don't have fast internet then magic jack will not work very well. Dial up or any other slow connection service will result in dropped calls and static. At least you got your money back.

Yep, I keep telling people about this. Unbelievable the phone bills I am hearing that people pay, it is breaking them. I love magic jack, of course cable company keeps trying to sell me that bundle phone, but I even get long distance free, callwaiting, caller ID, because it pops up, plus I can hit ignore if I don't want to receive a call and it makes my phone quit ringing. It is awesome.

Thanks for the info, my husband and me have been thinking about dropping the phone companies for a while, must of us, my girls, hubby and me use the cell phone for almost everything. I have the home phone for International calls (receiving them), I call international with a calling card so I can use any phone. So we have been thinking about the Magic Jack phone but had my doubts, now i think I will look into it, since we do not use it as much anymore.
My only doubt with the Magic Jack is, can I keep the same home number I have? Can I make up my own number or do they give me a number?

As far as I am aware [I have it myself and love it for the most part], you can't keep your number. You can reserve a phone number....that they make up. I believe that's an extra $10 or so...not 100% sure. Check their website on that part! You can just have them make up your phone number too for free (included in the first $40 charge which $20 pays for the device and $20 pays for the first year service). I bought 5 yrs of service for $70! That's some cheappp phone service for 5 years!

After some time the only downside for me is that I have a laptop computer so I can't move the computer all over house and still get phone service. The Magic Jack plugs into the side of the computer and then about 10 feet of cord runs to the phone, if you have a desktop computer then you will have not have this issue. I reserved a phone number from a list for an additional 3 dollars, for 10 dollars you can choose a number, but not your current or any already taken numbers. I tried several numbers and they were not accepted so I went for the 3 dollar choose a number from a list. If you call International you will LOVE Magic Jack! It's only 2 cents a minute to a huge list of countries worldwide. 8) You will have to add that function to your service. Possibly pay up front for a block of minutes, but worth it. The phone service has been impeccable for me thus far and exceeded my expectations.

If you want to make international calls then you're better off with Skype or Voipraider. Skype allows you to call from one computer to another, but it costs nothing. Voipraider allows you to call a land line or mobile phone from your computer. Calls to a landline are free, but calling a mobile phone costs a few cents a minute.

Wow that's quite awesome, I'll have to try this when I head down to walmart.

I had a friend that was deported overseas, and he used Magic Jack. Worked great for him.

It has saved me a lot of money over the years. I went from $60.00 a month with traditional phone service to $60.00 for 5 years.
