well i know the feeling i go out 3 times a week for the last year and a half and have 5 interveiws it is so frustrating i do alot of things to make money from home but most of these things they want money for this or that and i just don't have it and i know the old saying you got to spend money to make money but when you don't have it then you get told well then there's nothing they can do for you

I have been out of work since last year. I have only done a handful of phone interviews, and tomorrow is only my third in person interview. I decided to go back to school so that will make it even harder with my schedule.

This economy sucks.

Ive been looking for awhile too. I enjoy being with my kids but I sure want more. It is hard to find jobs. The ones that I have seen are call center jobs that require it to be noise free and I have a newborn so that is sometimes impossible.

Fortunately I still have a job, but I recall some of the things I did when I was looking for a job that may or may not help.

First thing I did, was I submitted my resumes in person vs mailing or emailing.  Then if it was a job I was really interested in, if I had not heard back from anyone in 2 days, I would call to "confirm" they received my resume.  This way it gets them looking at my resume vs sitting on a stack of paper.  Often that would increase my chances of getting an in person interview.  Then when I got an interview, I did my best to "sell" myself to the interviewer.  You don't want to be too desperate but be more confident.  Learn about what that place does and find concise ways to explain to the interviewer why you would make a good fit for their business.

If I didn't get the job, and it was one I really wanted, sometime I would follow up with a call and ask the interviewer/manager who made the decision if they would comment on why they decided not to hire me - not because I felt they "made the wrong" choice, but more wanting to know if it was I lacked a certain skill they were looking for or if I may have presented something negative about myself that turned them off that I may not be aware of.  For those businesses that did provide feedback on why I was not chosen, I was able to use this information to refine my interviewing technique until I finally got a job.

In most cases, it's more a matter of confidence, and leaving something notable/interesting about yourself that helps keep you stuck in the interviewer's mind.  I would usually try to mention things like how I played in "the world's largest trivia contest" or how I was a ballroom dancer - these things were unusual stories that were memorable and kept me in mind.  If you stay in the person's mind, that helps get you closer to getting in the door.

Good luck to all of you!  Hope some of this may help a little bit.

Because all of our jobs have left to Tax free countries, that can also pay their employees less, with no benefits!!!!!

I have a friend who lost his job and has a family of 6 to support. At first he was very selective on the jobs he would apply to. After some time his unemployment ran out and he was still out of work. So he decided to be less selective and immediately got a job with the chain retailer Lowe's. He was making much less, they paid about 9$ an hr but he was able to cover the essentials and even got medical insurance for his family. He liked the job because it allowed him to work evening and weekend hours, which gave him time during the day to job hunt and interview. After some time he found a job that was comparable to his old job but he could have worked much sooner if he was able to move. A company out of state had offered him a job but he was tied to his location because he owned a home.

Guess it is where you live, Colorado has a ton of jobs people here dont want to work. Sometimes you have to do 2 and 3 jobs to get what you need to live. I am in the process getting a second job, so I can keep my head above water. And they are out there.

My Aunt has been out of work for a year after being let go from a bank she worked at for 13 years. It doesn't feel like times are getting better either. She has applied to a gazillion jobs and nothing came of any of them. Good luck to you guys who are unemployed :(

Keep the faith.  I was out of work for a year and half until I finally got a job, and I had to move back in with parents.  Still trying make enough money to make it on my own again.  Times are tough, but keeping trying and you will become a better person because of it.

Maybe your strategy and how you are going about it is all wrong.  There are jobs out there. Unemployment may be higher than usual but there are still way more people working than are not working.  You can't just sit back and pass out resumes and expect people to drop jobs in your lap especially if you don't have the right skills.  Sometimes you have to create your own jobs. A lot of people now are collecting unemployment because it pays more then some "lowly jobs" they don't want to do.  Well beggars can't be choosers.  Work two "lowly jobs" if you have to.

Have you taken advantage of all the resources available to you?  Have you spoken to career counselors, visited job centers, temp agencies, education programs, put together a professional resume, practiced interviewing skills?  Learn about employment resources in your community.  Volunteer, find internships.  Relocate if you have to.

True story my father once got a job by picking up a broom and started sweeping while other people were just standing around waiting for a job to fall in their laps.  The boss saw this and hired him on the spot because he was being proactive.  Maybe the traditional way is not working any more and you have to try something different if you are not getting the results you want.

If anyone is interested in being a flight attendant there are several airlines that are hiring now.  You will most likely need to relocate or commute long distances but you have to do what you have to do to survive.  Check it out.  http://www.flightattendantcareer.com/hiring_info.htm

I agree with you dreamy. My mother has worked for a grocery store for about 20 years now and she was able to get my aunt a job within one day at this grocery store. It wasn't full time and didn't pay half of what my Aunt made previously at the bank so she refused to take the job. BIGGEST mistake she could have made because they would have eventually offered her more money based on her experience with working with money. Sometimes people have to suck up their pride and do what will benefit them.

Because the economy is downhill and there is absolutely no jobs out there.  I sympathize with you, but do not stop looking.

The economy is so bad now you have people with college degrees taking jobs at McDonalds and any other place they can get a job a high school degree is nothing but a sheet of paper
