Title: should texting be taken off cell phones?
Post by: Storm61115 on September 01, 2011, 09:31:30 am
i think texting should be taken off cell phones coz 1. they keep people from actually hearing the persons voice on the phone, 2. your employers cant text u that ur fired, 3. your boy/girl cant stay up all night texting their bf/gf like some people i know 4. do u how many people have gotten hit by a car and fallen into man holes because they werent paying attention? texting is causing alot of problems. i'm glad i have a safelink phone that is limited on mins and it takes 1 min away from me for each text i send or receive so it prevents me from texting. yes i am poor so this is why i have a safelink phone. i can not pay for a phone. i just got fired from another job today because i couldnt make a commitment to the lady on wednesdays. she texted me that she went with someone else, but i never got it. so i went over there to babysit and she told me she went with someone else. i never got a text from her so i assumed she didnt send it or if she did send it, she sent it to the phone that was disconnected coz i couldnt pay it. either way, she had 3 numbers.. she could have called one. if she would have called the number that was disconnected she would have known that i didnt get the text and would still think i was still on. she should have called my house phone--she had it! i gave all 3 numbers to her on one piece of paper. if she had the disconnected one, she had all the other ones too. i lost the job like i said coz i couldnt commit and the reason why i couldnt commit is because i have another job ..and they can never tell me when i babysit their kids so that makes them unreliable and because they ARE unreliable, i am unreliable. so i'm thinking about finding another job. the money is real good with that job but i need something where i know my days for sure and i dont keep getting called off. i have rent and other things to pay and if they dont tell me when i'm supposed to come the bills and rent dont get paid i lose everything. I HATE DEPENDING ON PEOPLE SO MUCH. I HATE NOT HEARING BACK FROM COMPANIES I HAVE APPLIED TO, SO I HAVE TO GO WITH NANNY POSITIONS AND I GET JERKED AROUND ALL THE TIME. :bs: :BangHead: :angry7:

Texting serves a useful purpose. As with most things, it can be abused and/or misused. There is no point in depriving everyone because some cannot seem to control themselves.

Bingo!! It's not the texting that's a problem, it's the people who don't use it in the correct manner. Texting should absolutely not be taken away. What's next? Email? Technology is changing rapidly and we should at some level keep up with it. Like the databases we have at work, they're constantly being changed and upgraded. If you can't keep up you won't have a job, that's the way the world works. It's the same thing as guns don't kill people, people kill people, food doesn't make people fat, it's the uncontrollable portions people eat that's the problem.

definitely should keep texting! as the mother of a 15 yr old boy, i'm finding out that sometimes that's the only way to keep in contact with him! its "embarrassing" to have to call home to mommy, but he can send me a text telling me he's going to be late or whatever he needs to say without his face turning red!

haha yeah kids and their embarrassment towards their mothers. i was never like that. i dont think my parents ever embarrassed me when i was young. i would call home everytime i needed to without a problem. my parents were more of a protection in my case coz when mom and dad come over to ur house u know ur in deep poop. my dad has a bad temper and doesnt play around.

If texting is such a problem for you why not just get a plan that doesn't include texting?  A lot of plans have that option.  Texting has it's pros also.  For example if someone has there phone off or out of service or they can't talk to you at the moment they can see what you have to say and respond when they can.  It's kind of like a answering machine message but no talking to a box, just typing the information.

I actually prefer texting. It's some people who need to know that right time and place to text. Texting itself isn't an issue.

Yes I think so also.  After all it is a "phone" not a computer.  I think it should be for emergency purposes only.  When you can't get a signal when in need.

I am 18 and texting is my world so I would say no.  Sometimes thats the only way I can talk to my boyfriend.  I agree some people texting while driving is stupid and wrong it could cause an accident or even hurt someone.  When you are running low on minutes and you get unlimited texting than you can basicly still talk.

I don't care either way because I don't text and I am not payin exta to have texting.  Or I have to increase my minutes to get unlimiting texting and I can't aford it right now so it not important to me.

no dont get rid of texting, texting has its pros and cons 1)i think technology can take away from face to face contact and in this way you are not even hearing the persons voices 2) it can be dangerous texting while driving and so on I just think that people these days are so busy and addicted to technology that they cant wait tell they are not driving but texting has its benefits for example if you can not answer the phone for some reason you can text if you run out of minutes you can still talk and so on but you cant just get rid of texting

I like having texting on my cell phone.

In my family, we give each other quick texts
all the time.

It is nice to have a beep to know I have a text
that I can check when convenient rather than
the phone ringing

Although I share your frustration about texting I do not believe it should be removed from cell phones. Like all new technologies I believe texting has a place in our society. However there should be more controls i.e. parental controls as well as the option for you to remove it from your phone if you choose.

Although some people do abuse texting the majority of people used texting responsibly. The issue here isn't texting is being accountable for your actions and removing texting from a cell phone won't teach people to be responsible and accountable for their actions. :peace:

I think texting should not work while the person is in he car.   I sure texting was invented to help people not to make more trouble for us.

I agree with you, I think people use texting as an out and quite honestly some days I would much rather text then to have to carry on an actual convo w/some people - ya know the people who like to go on forever and ever. However I am at the point as well where I feel our world is just getting less and less personable

Texting can be a good thing. I use it all the time to send a quick messages to my boyfriend at work when I need him to do something or I am not going to be where I said earlier or a change in plans of picking him up, etc... Otherwise I wouldn't be able to get a hold of him at all.

We don't get rid of alcohol just because some people misuse it or are addicted to it. How is this any different. Texting should stay.

I prefer texting to voice mail. I have dumped voice mail off of my home because people were calling and leaving the same message on my cell and home phone or people were calling and not hanging up before the voice mail kicked in. For example:

On Wednesday I am going to be involved in some training. Usually the trainer likes us there a half hour before the training starts so we can map out how the training should proceed. He said the training would be at 4:00 o'clock but didn't say if that was the training time start or the arrival time. So, instead of calling him and leaving a voice mail, hope he has time in his busy schedule and a quiet place to check his voice mail and then call me back to leave a voice mail more than likely. If I didn't understand his voice mail or have more questions I would need to call him again.

With texting,  I sent him a text and  got a reply and followed up with a couple of questions in a shorter amount of time then trading voice mails.

I think texting helps me stay in contact and more updated with people. I also feel it enhances the times that we do have together face to face.

no employer should text u that you're fired, PERIOD! If they are professional as they say they are they will call u on the phone and talk to on there or call u in the office. people and their "not wanting conflict" *bleep* pissed me off.

I rather text than talk so I wouldn't want texting to be taken off cell phones. It is a bit distracting but I like it.
