Title: Flu Shots
Post by: sommap on September 16, 2011, 09:06:05 am
Do you get them?  Have you gotten yours yet for this year?  I got mine yesterday at my local grocery store pharmacy.  I have gotten one every year since I had a very bad case of the flu and haven't gotten sick since then.

No I don't get them.  I've only had the flu once in my life and that was over six years ago.  I don't take medication either and don't plan on starting.  I don't trust it.  Don't want that poison in my body.

I have not got one but debating weather I should or not because I got sick at the begining of the summer and it took me like three or more weeks to get rid of it.  I don't care for needles but it might be worth it.  I have asmatha and sizers so it might be a good Idea but I will go to my doctor so I know its ok with the medications I take.  I think I will make an appointment as soon as I can. Thank you for reminding me to consult my doctor.  That was a good post becasue I forgot and was not thinking about it until now.

I've never gotten one before, but I think getting one, especially in some instances can be good, like when it comes to children, the elderly, or those that may have other medical complications when they get the flu. Who knows, maybe I'll eventually get one too.

My entire family doesn't get them . They say if you get Broncitis at least once a year you shouldnt get the flu shot because you will only get sicker each time you get the shot . Its put 2 of my kids in the hospital for more than 3 days each time .  I dont take the chance , your body was ment to get sick , if you didnt you wouldnt have an immune system.  I also space out my childrens vaccines so they only get 1 or 2 at a time over 4 years !

I have not ever had a flu shot I know when I was a kid my mom wanted me to have one because of my asmatha.  I was put on a waiting list for a kids flu shot but never got them here where I live.  Now I am an adult I feel I never had one before so why start now.

When I was kid, my parents made me get them. Now, as an adult, I refuse to get a flu shot. You wander why kids are so sickly now a days, is because they get treated for every possible cold or stuffy nose. Medicines that was working in the past is no longer affective. Your immune system is the mechanism that helps you heal. When you stop illness right away from passing through your body, you'll get the cured fast but the problem is that your body won't be able to recognize that specific bug/virus because it wasn't in the body long enough for the immune system to tag it put into the memory banks of that specific bug. So,if another virus comes through that is kind of like the old virus, the immune system has some data on how to get rid of the new bug. Today, too many people over medicate themselves & their kids to much. If you're so afraid of every little runny nose, you might as well live in a bubble. The rest of us will let our immune systems do the work & give it some kind of exercise. If you don't use it you lose it!

I am a senior, and I had gotten flu shots every year since I was 60.  However, last year I kept putting it off and ended up not getting one.  I was sick for over a month - worst case I've ever had, I think.  I definitely plan to get one this year.  As a matter of fact, thanks for reminding me.  !!

I've gotten them every year  in the past 10years or so. I had a bad case of the flu and do not care to repeat it.

Sometimes they make me feel a little "off" the next day so I make sure I do not have a big day planned the next day. Other wise they are
worth it.

The older you are it is best to get a flu shot and if you have diabetes you should get a flu shot too. I have been getting flu shots for the past 5 years.

I've got tenone the last 5 years in a row, and while flu raged through my first grade class for months, I only got mild versions that left me feeling tired but able to function.

I do not know what to do because some people get bad side effects from the flu shot. The question then is: Is the prevention shot worst than the disease?

They help some but not others.  I think there is a pill that  is equal to the flu shot but I am not 100% sure.

I don't get flu shots. I'm 25, and I was told I could get it if I want, but someone my age doesn't need to worry much about it because my immune system should be able to fight it off. I was told that babies and senior citizens are the most at risk, and I know (from working at a pharmacy for 5 years) that sometimes, vaccinnes for things like the flu or shingles can be hard to get. So...I'll sacrafice myself so that a baby or elderly person can get theirs!

Never get them, but usually don't get the flu either.  I hate shots, and whenever I used to get them I generally got more sick from the flu shot than I do if I get the flu!

I used to have to get them when I was in the military, every year, weather I wanted to or not. I always came up with the flu. I haven't got one in about 15 years.

There is plentiful evidence that vaccinations are less than beneficial. The venerable British Anti-Vaccination League http://www.vaccination.org.uk/a/navl.html  (and, incidentally, George Bernard Shaw) were vociferously against them. Homeopathic medical writers frequently include passages in their texts on how to treat vaccinosis, or the side-effects of vaccinations (Clarke, 1972). Certainly the U.S. Government cannot say without qualification that shots are either safe or essential.  After all, this is what was said about the infamous Swine Flu vaccine in a 1976 FDA Consumer Memo in my possession: "Some minor side effects - tenderness in the arm, low fever, tiredness - will occur in less than 4% of (vaccinated) adults. Serious reactions from flu vaccines are very rare." So much for blanket claims of safety, for many persons well remember the very numerous and very serious side effects of Swine Flu vaccine that forced the federal immunization program to a halt.

As far as being essential, in the same memo the FDA said this of the same vaccine: "Question: What can be done to prevent an epidemic?  Answer: The only preventive action we can take is to develop a vaccine to immunize the public against the virus. This will prevent the virus from spreading."

This was seen to be totally false; after all; the public immunization program was abruptly halted and still there was no epidemic of Swine Flu. If vaccination were the only defense, literally tens of millions of Americans should have been struck down with the Swine Flu, for a large percentage of the population of the U.S. was not vaccinated.

I never get flu shots. I think its just another pharmacutical scheme to make money. Not to mention, has anyone ever done research on whats in these sort of vaccines were injecting into our bodies, and into our childrens bodies...? just saying.

I have never gotten a flu shot before, but this year I am really considering it. One reason is because I had the flu last month oddly, and it was horrible.

I do not get them, I think they wear down your immune system and once you start getting the shot you will always have to get them or else it could be a nasty flu season, i havent had the flu in 15 years i bet

I kept putting it off last year and then never got one. I didn't get the flu either though I have young grandsons who who are exposed to everything in school. They are old enough now to get the nasal spray flu vaccine and though they had some virus's last year they were mild and I didn't catch it from them. This years vaccine is supposed to be the latest greatest and protects against all the various forms of flu. I guess I should get one. Another thing I do is buy local honey and use it in tea and breads I make. The local honey is supposed to strengthen your immune system and my allergies don't kick in every year. Even pediatricians are prescribing local honey when kids have coughs etc instead of the over-the-counter meds that have come into question. If you decide to do the honey--make sure it comes from your area--check farmers markets, health food stores or small local stores to find it.
PS--I don't keep bees or have any interest in honey other than passing this along.

My body doesn't react well to getting shots at all (or blood drawn for that matter), so I only get the ones I absolutely have to have.  Since I'm still young and have a very strong immune system, I skip the flu shot.  Last time I threw up was due to food poisoning, not influenza, and that was several years ago.  Save the shots for those who really need it.

I've never gotten one and I'm okay so far.  It's hard to decide since you hear different things from different "professionals."

I got my flu shot but I regret it.  First i sat there for like an hour because the nurse past me over then she put the needle in at an angle so instead of feeling just the inital *bleep* I felt the whole thing until she pulled it out.  Then the spot not only swelled but my arm which she did on the right (and being a righty that sucked) hurt for three days after that.  I had to get a hot/cold ice pack to put on my arm to finally get it to stop hurting.  Everyone says its better than getting the flu.  Really?  I think I have to choose between to evils.

I got my very first one last year and it was no big deal. I felt a bit yucky for a couple days but didn't even catch a cold all flu season. So I may get one this year, I'll wait and see what my doctor thinks.

No i don't get flu shots.  You know that the flu shots actually have the flu in them.  That way your body can defend against it.  There are different types of flus, plus some will get the flu because they got the shot.

I have never taken flu shots or medication. They don’t necessarily work. To me they are just an other bad excuse to add more garbage to my already toxic load. If I become sick, I just bear with it and allow nature to take over its healing.

I totally agree.  All the toxins we're putting into our bodies just breathing, drinking and eating...  we don't need to go get more.  It's natural remedies for me.

Nope, I didn't get my flu shot for this year yet. I didn't get one last year as well and I never got sick. Its kinda odd because I work at a store and I'm surrounded by many people. So, I was expecting to get sick any day and I never did get sick. Maybe, my luck will run out this year - I don't know  :dontknow:

I do not get a flu shot.  The first time I got a flu shot I was laid up in bed for 2 weeks with the flu.  I went a few years without one.  Thinking that it might have been a fluke, I went ahead and had gotten another one.  Same thing happened.  I guess I must be allergic or something.

I have never gotten aflu shot and probably never will.  I have only once had the flu many years ago.  I know too many people who do get sick from the shot.
