Title: Do you "re-gift" or have you re-gifted?
Post by: Tinachelune on October 06, 2011, 06:30:41 pm
Ok....Let's be honest here since Christmas time is right around the corner.  I would like to know who re-gifts?   Yes, I have been guilty of doing that but I feel...."If it's still new, it's ok".  What are your thoughts. I would love to hear them.

yes, I thought I was going to out smart my kid but she remembered that she had got that item once and I didn't remember giving it to her.  Felt like I cheated her.  I don't think that I had ever done it again.  Although in some cases I don't see the problem with it.  If you haven't used it and it isn't going back to the person that gave it to you or hurt someones feelings. ok,  I don't know were it came to be that everyone gets brand new prestents.  What if you have something that you know someone would love even if it is used.  Maybe it would mean something more to them that way.

I have never re-gifted and as far as I know I've never been re-gifted. I don't think I would ever re-gift. I don't want to risk hurting someone's feelings.

O I think I misunderstood the question. What i was talking about was if someone had you a gift that you never used so you give it to someone else (not the same person). That would suck to give (or get) the same gift twice.

I don't really re gift but I did own my own collectable store so when I didn't have the money to give a gift I would go and shop in my own store.  Which I purchased the product if it belonged to someone else but I had consignment but if it was mine I didn't have to worry about it.  I also sell avon so I always have instock items so I really don't have to re gift besides I don't recieve that many gifts anyways and I don't want to I would rather give gifts especially to chldren because they needed to have enjoyment and I like seeing there exspesions when I give a gift.  My son and husband is always saying you need to spoil yourself a little so I bought me a new pillow.  How funny is that and Now I don't like the darn thing it didn't stay firm very long.

To be honest with you, I have never re-gifted before, however I thought about it. I feel If I didn't have any use for the item that was given to me,then I don't see anything wrong with giving it away.

I have given things away that I received but as a friendship gift ~ not for Christmas, Birthdays, etc.  One woman's trash is another's treasure.

Yes, I am guilty of re-gifting.  If it is something I am never going to use, it is better off with a new home!

i have a few times. i'd rather the item go to someone who can use it rather than sitting around collecting dust. i'd also rather someone regift an item i gave them to someone who can use it if they can't.

Right on...and...absolutely.  I won't give someone garbage but if I receive something that's brand new...that I don't need...I might give it to
someone else.  I don't worry about whether or not someone is offended because that's THEIR choice and I'm unable to control the choices
that other people make.  I'm also NOT offended if the person I give the gift to turns around and gives it away.

I would say...Do you best always and give yourself credits for always doing your best.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Sherry

I have re-gifted.  Especially if I get 2 of the same item, it saves me the time of purchasing the gift when I know somebody else could use it.

I have gotten a gift that has not been used, and I gave it away to someone. Not as a gift, but just to give it away. I did not even think that the person that originally gave me the gift would object. Now that I think about it, it would probably have hurt their feelings. I have been known to take things over the years to the Salvation Army that have been piling up and some of those things have been unused gifts. How long do you keep them before you can throw them away?

I have solved the problem all together to not buy anymore Christmas gifts or receive any. It's taken a good 3 years, but now most everyone I know will not buy me gifts at my request.....nor I them. I like to celebrate the Christmas season for what it really is about.....not going into debt to buy gifts.

I have never re-gifted, but I dont see anything wrong with it. I just typically am able to find some use for most things I receive as gifts.

Sometimes, if the gift I have received is something I would never use. I will regift it. It's nothing personal, just not my kind of gift... so to speak. lol

I have never re-gifted and probably never will. I don't get many gifts to begin with, but I wouldn't want to re-gift and accidentally give back the gift to the same person who gave me the gift.

In my family, when you give a gift, there are no strings attached. You can keep it, donate it, regift or even throw it away if you like. The real gift is that someone thought of you and showed their love by giving you something they thought would give you joy. The real present is indeed the THOUGHT behind it.

I have when it is truly something that I cant use. I make sure that the person that gave it to me doesn't know the person that I gave it to.

Well...it beats my pitiful attempts at handcrafts....

"what is it?"

"what does it look like?"

"__?"

"that's it!"

I have never "re-gifted" anything, but I have just given stuff away (usually to goodwill) if I've never used it.

Yes, I have and I do "re-gift". The way I look at it, I would rather someone get a gift that they can put to good use because I know I will not be using it and it will just get stored somewhere in my house.

I have regifted new items. For example, I was given a piece of costume jewelry that I would never wear, so I regifted it for an office party. I have also regifted purses that were not my taste, and candles or lotions. I think as long as the item is new, it is ok.

Yes and to have fun, I saved a gift my sister-in-law gave me for Christmas. I re-packaged it and gave it back to her for Christmas!  She was so happy with the gift, (so she said). But she could not say any different now could she.   Have some fun this Christmas

No, I don't exchange with too many people and if someone gives me something, I am pretty sure they wanted ME to have it, not someone else.

I learned a lesson from a lady in her 80s when she gave away a gift I gave her.  She actually told me about it.  She shared how much it had meant when she was in rehabilitation.  And this moment came in her life where she could pass it on and make someone else so happy with that same gift.   I was touched.  With the time to think about it I learned a great lesson.  We should give gifts freely and with an open heart.  No strings - No Ties - Just open heart.  Gifts have a way of finding where they are supposed to be sometimes.    When you give or receive, the gift serves a purpose.  Not about the material item or our personal taste necessarily or the dollar value BUT truly the thought that someone wanted to share with you.  Regifting can work just like the theory of someone helping you out and to repay them you pass it on doing something nice or to help someone out and hopefully it touches lives and makes a tremendous difference.  You may never know BUT you don't have to know for it to touch other lives.  So I give and receive freely now.  A gift I give someone could be re-gifted and change someone else's world!  And I don't even have to know about it for that to happen.   When we give a gift free of attachments -  openly giving from the heart - voicing to whom you give the gift to do as they see fit, you might be blessed with some great stories of lives that were touched because you were compelled to buy something for someone else.

I love re-gifting!  You get that horrible gift that you will never use, I always turn that into a white elephant gift at christmas.  Or you get something you already have, but there is no receipt or tags so you can't return it, I regift.  Come on, everyone does it!

I think it's wrong to to return or regift to I would never do it.  If I don't like a gift I just politely say thank you and put it away in a closet somewhere.

Gift Cards?  That's an awesome gift to re-gift. I would love to receive them.  that way, you can go to the store and buy whatever YOU want as opposed to getting something that you really don't like.

NO, I'VE NEVER RE-GIFTED, BUT I'VE HAD IT DONE TO ME MORE THAN ONCE....MY HUSBANDS GRANDMOTHER RE-GIFTED SOMETHING WE GAVE TO HER FOR CHRISTMAS TWO YEARS PRIOR....TALK ABOUT HURT FEELINGS  :( DIDN'T SHE THINK WE WOULD REMEMBER. MY MOTHER-IN-LAW ALWAYS RE-GIFTS. WHAT GETS ME IS SHE DOES THE BIG PUT ON OF HOW WONDERFUL A GIFT IS SHE RECEIVES AND THEN SHE GIVES IT TO SOMEONE ELSE AS A GIFT ON A DIFFERENT OCCASSION....CAN'T STAND IT! I NEVER WANT TO BUY HER ANYTHING!
