I have been looking at the artificial trees that are in the stores now. I will probably get a real one though. I live in Oregon and can go and cut one down in the forest for a small fee. When we lived in Oklahoma we had an artificial one because the real ones were to expensive. I really prefer a real tree where you have the smell of pine in your house and I don't mind the needle mess, because all you have to do is put something down plastic under it.

I prefer an artificial tree. The real ones are beautiful, but they seem a little to high-maintenance for me. Always having to water them, and trim them, and what-not. The fake ones are cool cause now most of them come pre-assembled with lights, which makes it much more convenient. But hey, it's only October, I've still got time to decide whether or not I will take the fake one out of storage or go all-out this year with a real one!

Going out and selecting a real tree and shaping it plus the smell is all part of the Christmas fun. Start early and don't rush is the key to a relaxed Christmas experience. While we are at it let's not forget the reason for the season. :)

I prefer artificial trees. You pay once, get a tree which can last longer, and be used many times over. If you get a real tree, you keep it for a few days, then throw it away, and start over for the following Christmas.

Although I prefer real tree, I bought artificial tree because it is more convenient to keep it years...

I think a real tree is nicer, but an artificial tree makes more sense financially, especially if you don't have kids or the kids are grown up. $20 for a life time or $40 a year? I'm going with the $20 for a lifetime.

20 bucks for an artificial tree? Perhaps you could find an artificial tree at the thrift store that's possibly missing a few branches for 10-20 bucks. I agree that a fake tree is a better deal in the long run, but a good fake Christmas tree is usually well over 100 dollars. I don't mind paying a couple hundred for a fake tree if it's going to last for a decade or more. I'll be making that investment this year as I'm tired of the pine needles all over the house, cutting off branches, watering, the pain in the butt tree stand, and 40 plus dollars for something that is guaranteed to be worthless after the first month of service.

We have a pretty expensive fake tree. Never wanted a real tree in our house.

A real Christmas tree looks very nice, we tried it one year but it cause a few problems! so we will be sticking with an artificail tree :thumbsup:

This year I am buying a PRE-LIT artificial tree! So tired of putting the lights on the tree! :angry7:

I always preferred the experience of getting a real tree. Maybe its reliving the childhood when I went with my family and we all picked out the tree together and subsequently decorated it as a family. I now have a really nice "fake" prelit tree but something feels a little empty and hollow to me going this route. Maybe when I have kids of my own I will bring back the real tree.

We've always used a fake one. My Mom's allergic to the oils in conifers, so a real one is out.
Besides, I don't much see the purpose of killing a tree just to use it for a holiday, then just dumping it after.

I have always went with the real tree for Christmas. I just think such a fun part of Christmas. Letting the kids help pick out the tree, then bring it home and set it up. It creates terrific memories. Sadly the cost of trees have become so high that I don't know if I can keep up the tradition. But I will try.

I LOVE :heart: real trees but they are just too messy and cause my allergies to flare up so I will stick with the artificial. With enough lights and ornaments ... it is hard to tell the difference anyway. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!!

We always had an artificial tree when I was growing up, and I have continued that tradition. I've seen how messy it is to clean up after a real one and I just don't want to deal with all that. I don't really see the point of cutting down a tree just to throw it away within a month. Besides, I save money each year by reusing my artificial one.

I would have to say artificial because I think the real ones attract bugs I'd rather be safe then sorry :)

Save the environment by using artificial tree over and over is better than cutting trees every Christmas.

I remember one Christmas that we bought a real tree that was in a pot and could be planted after Christmas and therefore alleviates the problem of wasting a tree. I thought it was cool to plant the tree after Christmas.

We have always used an artificial tree. Seems senseless to pay for a new one every year. Just takes up storage space and much longer to decorate. We have the kind that each branch needs placed into the color-coded hole. Looks great when it's up though!

I have always had the green christmas tree, but last year, my husband and I bought a white one, I have always wanted one, but we will see if it is going to be the same.

There is nothing like a real tree and that is what I prefer. But a real tree but it is not logical around my place. I have three big dogs here, one who is very inquisitive, so an artificial one is what I use. I do get tree branches and decorate with them so I can have the fresh pine smell in my house.

I love the smell of a live christmas tree. It makes the house smell so good. It does'nt feel like christmas without the smell of evergreen. On the other hand my husband hates real tree's. He says that it is a fire hazard. Can you imagine that?

Exactly. I admit it. I love Christmas. I currently have an artificial tree as I have just gotten too old and lazy to deal with a real tree.
I have about 8 strings of lights on my tree and though it is one of those trees that you can 'fold up', it is never folded. I do remove the ornaments and carefully pack them away, but those lights that I have spent at least 4 hour wrapping around every single branch, in and out are staying put.
For two years, I folded the tree with the lights on and I found that it tended to break some of the bulbs and...if one goes out so does the string...
So now, in my cleverness, I have a corner of the dining room that I place the tree, and then I have some old folding closet doors that I have painted and placed around the tree like a room divider or oriental screen...
Come December 1st, out it comes to the living room, and all I have to do is decorate with ornaments (except for the odd year when they start to burn out :-
Long live the artificial tree...

I prefer the real tree because it looks more beautiful, makes the house smell good & makes the house more cozy. But since my kids are no longer in the home I just put up a small artifical one now which is alot more easier to put up after the holiday is over.

I prefer a live tree but use an artifical. It used to be you could get a tree in a lot for 10-15 dollars. Now they start at about $30.00

I will not purchase a real tree until I move in a house so for now it's artifical.

i prefer a real tree, but, five years ago i moved in my place and it is soooo small that i don't even really have room for a tree at all, so i compromise and put up a 2 1/2 foot minia :Dture tree that is artificial. got to stay in the spirit some how.

ain't it the truth? The last live tree I bought was $85.00 and it came to my eye level....I am 6'2 and I like a tree that I have to look up to...at least an inch above my head...and since they seem to charge by the foot...that comes to some real moola coming outta my pocket for something that I'm going to kick to the curb within the next 30 days....
yes..30 days...all the work that is involved in decorating.. I plan on enjoying it more than a few days..I'm going to get my money's worth out of it... :D

I personally never had a artificial tree but, my neighbor have one and I like it. I actually like the real christmas trees better because of the smell and I enjoy decorating them since I was a kid. However, I may go with a artificial tree this year and they are about $50 where I work.

i'm used to using artificial trees. it can last for years and less maintenance.

I want a real christmas tree but cant have one because of my extreme allergies. Even the plastic tree has to be packed to keep dust from accumulating on it while being stored.

Would rather have real , but like you, my nephew has allergies, as well as asthma. Have to settle for artificial.

Artifical all the way for me. I hat always cleaning up the messy pine needles and having sap all over the place. Besides, having small children who would probably eat the pine needles that fall is more than enough for me to go artifical. :)

I don't really care as long as i have a Christmas tree, that is decorated nice and that i have some presents underneath it!
;D ;D yeah buddy. One year, I had a large bushy branch cut off a tree and I hung it on the wall and decorated it. ..hey, I've seen these trees that look like the back was cut off so they would go against the wall...whether for monetary reasons or space, because let's face it...you gotta have room to put it up and walk around it and still have living space...especially with kids....

I love fresh trees because of the smell but its a hassle to bring from the lot..... i think ima try to buy the artificial tree

I believe a high quality artificial tree will be better in the long run. Not all fake trees look very fake, I mean they have come quite a long way. Having said that though, it might be fun to get a real tree one year and go through the whole process. Only problem is the cleanup afterwards, which I heard can be a real horror. Even still, most definately would not do that every year, and would prefer saving money with a tree that always stays green and well. (plastic :) )

I like real trees but I always end up with a fake one. Maybe this year I can do both. Now that is a thought.

Usually I use a tabletop artificial one but my grand daughter is here and I'm thinking of putting up a real one this year. She can help make ornaments. It will be fun.

We always go to a Christmas tree farm and chop one down ourselves. I love the smell of a real tree.

We always had a real one growing up, I couldn't even imagine having an artificial one til I moved to a different state and the real trees were just as expensive as an artificial one. So we got an artificial one to reuse year after year, and when I realized how much easier it was to take care of (and that I didn't have to worry so much about it catching fire) I was hooked. But now that all my kids are grown, I mostly prefer none at all :)

Fake is fine with me no cleaning, and the smell of strong pine gives me a headache.

I LOVE having a real tree!! They smell so nice! I just don't like having to have a tree butchered from its roots so it can go in my house. : I've only had a real tree for Christmas maybe twice. Artificial are nice too, if you have a decent looking one. You don't have to keep them in water and they're not nearly as heavy nor do they shed needles. I'd like to get a real one this year, but unfortunately it's not an option this year. I don't have much space so I may not even get to have an artificial tree either. ):

I would like to have a live tree but is will die and I like to put up my tree the day after Thanksgiving. We had a live tree when we lived on a farm and my children and I like that and it smelled so good. Now my children have familys of their on and some of my grand children have familys of their own. I miss everyone getting to gether for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I am allergic to the real trees so we have to use artificial trees. I have a beautiful tree but it has been several years since I have put one up. Just isn't the same since my daughter grew up on us and is out on her own. I don't have any grandchildren, ony grandpups. My mom felt bad for my husband because he wants me to put the tree up so she bought him a "Charlie Brown" tree year before last. I have set it out the past couple of years.
