Title: Wrapping paper PARTIES.. have you heard or participated in these?
Post by: sgluckadoo on December 03, 2011, 10:27:58 pm
Since times are tough and money is tight.. for those who are interested in wrapping paper for the holidays, here is something i heard about and wanted to share.

Wrapping paper parties. Basically you all bring your wrapping paper, packages, bows, etc., to a get together where you can swap and share, to save on buying multiple colors, etc.

:fish: I have never actually heard or been in one of those parties, but it sounds like fun. I wrap gifts for our spouses group for free and we take donations. Its not the same thing, but then if you don't have time or don't have wrapping paper then you can have someone wrap it for you. I would probably be okay with doing one of those parties, it just seems like it might turn into more of a hassle for some. I would think that if some people were better then others then they would end up wrapping others gifts, because I have some friends that are not good at it at all. Infact the person that was incharge of running the free wrapping for the group, has been bringing all her presents up for our table and not making donations. But I knew she was that person before, so whatever!

I think it is a neat way to get different color wrapping, bows, etc, without having to buy them all yourself. You sort of trade. :)

Sounds like a fun idea, but I hadn't heard of it before.

I know what you mean about some people not being good at wrapping at all.  The art league I belong to has an annual fundraiser where we give out door prizes.  We get together to wrap them and some of them look rather interesting.  The Talk just had a wrapping contest and to me they all failed.  They had to wrap a hat box shape and the results were laughable.  Luckily they were laughing about it. ;D

Its kind of funny that you mention gift wrapping, because I am pretty sure I am the absolute worst gift wrapper imaginable. I just cover whatever the gift is and hold it together as best I can with non-clear tape. If its an odd shape, look out, because your gift will most likely be covered in "patches" (those little pieces of wrapping paper patched up over holes) where it ripped. It gets ridiculous, I used to try and make my gifts look pretty, but I gave up long ago. People are either going to be getting a gift bag or an ugly wrapped gift.

Now, to the actual topic. No I have never heard of any of these parties, but it sounds like a good idea for someone like myself. I could bring a bunch of cheap wrapping paper in exchange for people making my presents look nice. I guess it would also help all of your gifts not look the same. Anyway, before I start rambling about something totally unrelated, I would be willing to try such party if there were one in my area.  :cat:

You sound like my husband. If it isnt a perfectly square box, it isnt going to look like a gift at all, lol.
