Title: Offers wanting cell phone number
Post by: bluegenie2 on February 20, 2012, 11:21:56 am
I am not comfortable giving out my cell phone number to anyone, plus I don't have text messages on my cell.  I just tried an offer that required a cell phone number be given in order to complete offer.  Is that the norm here?

I did try my cell number on a couple of offers, and my number comes up as not being valid, thus ending my ability to complete the offer, after they already have my info ofcourse.

I don't complete any offers that require personnel information (including phone number). I still have done pretty well on fusion cash.

I am not sure what this offer is that you were trying to complete, but sometimes on certain offers there is the ability to skip the cell phone page. Look for a skip tab somewhere on the page and this will let you continue though to the next page.

I agree. Keeps the bogus phone calls away.

I avoid anything wanting my phone number or the names of my family members. Some of the phone number things slap a 10$ charge on your phone because you're now signed up for some random service. Happened to me a bunch in the past, when I wasn't even doing offers like this! I bought a fushigi for my boyfriend. Lol! What a terrible experience. Now I just avoid anything asking for my number.

If you are doing an offer that asks for your cell phone number, more than likely you do not have to put it in. Look all over the page for a "skip" "pass" or "no thanks" They are usually in the upper right corner or all the way at the bottom. This skips that page and allows you to continue with the real offer. Never put your cell phone in those. If you read the fine print it says you will be charged $9.99 a month on those. Just skip over it.

I would never give out my cell phone number on any of these offeres.  Its a set up to get constant ads and promos from them to sell you something.  Its a big mistake because you can never get rid of them.

Sometimes there are offers that require a cell at the beginning when filling out a form. If you ever come across a time where you need to give out your number just sign up to k7.net and get a free voice mail number. It'll be a new number and if you get calls to it, it'll go straight to your email instead of someone calling you.

I've not had an offer go through completion each time one of these phone call offers come up.  I would just skip these.  Dont want random advertisers calling me once they share all my information.

I've put my number in a few times and now after reading this thread, I'm scared! I was always hesitant to do it so I don't know why I did but I don't want to get charged $10 a month. Any suggestion how to protect myself?

I don't give out my personal information, such as cell phone number either.  I had to learn the hard way.  I received text messages which charged me a bundle.  Ever since -- I make it a policy not to give out my phone number.

I don't have a cell phone, but I've learned from track phone users that they've ended up losing all of their minutes from giving their track phone number to some websites. Sounds like a harsh lesson to learn with a track phone or paid phone card usage.

As has been mentioned before,if you look closely you'll likely find a "pass" or "skip" hidden somewhere on the page.I don't have a cell phone,so I've always passed on those.

I never ever do those kind of offers. My mobile phone is far to personal to be having advertisers call me or text me.

Others have also informed me that they've had to contact their track phone service provider and ask them for assitance. Luckily, those text messages they were receiving from that website was located and deleted from their track phone number. The text messages were charging $10.00 per text message from their track phone. Yikes  :- :-X :P ??? :( :dontknow: :sad1: :crybaby2: Now thats creepy, $10.oo per text message  :bs:

Some offers require a cell phone number but others do not. I never give out my cell phone number to anyone. I have a home land line and only use my cell phone for back up and emergency. I have a limited plan and a limited text message plan.

It could be different for those persons who have unlimited plans. They might not have to worry about a lot of text messages and calls. They do not have to worry about going over their limits. I do.

I did once, and that offer kept on spamming my phone and i had to call the phone company to block the number!! Don't do it unless it's for necessary reasons, such as online shopping and stuff.

A lot of surveys require you to use your cell phone.

One way you can manage the cell phone problem is to get a cheap pay as you go phone. That way you are less likely to end up with a monthly charge you don't want. Sometimes you can get away with putting 000-000-0000, in the phone spot. Other times it is best to just avoid those types of offers. Now if it is a survey company I have never had a problem with those kind of sites, and sometimes they need to contact you for call in surveys or focus groups. It is a hard decision and sometimes scary idea to give out your number for no good reason.   :dontknow:

I'm always hesitant to give out my phone number be it landline or cell phone. Being flooded with bogus phone calls is a hell of alot worse than being flooded with emails. I can just use a "junk" email account for those, but I can't keep changing my phone number and making it hard for my family/friends to contact us. >:(

I don't like giving my cell number either. Usually just quit when it comes up. I hope there aren't that many offers like that.
