Title: Complaining!!!!!
Post by: mzzsarah12 on March 22, 2012, 12:21:39 pm
Do you ever get tired of people complaining all the time, and not for major reasons like " my legs hurts " cause from the knee down everything is missing, but for minor things like "I hate seeing misspelled words". Lol am I complaining about complaining people. Nobody likes to see misspelled words assuming the person reading it knows its misspelled. So many people would just ignore it.  Unless you are a English teacher you shouldn't care or at least not enough to comment on it pbut there is always one person who has a problem with such simple things. If it was something like "I'm standing hear" instead of "here" then yea I can see your point but u still understood what was being said, so get over it.

Indeed, it's somewhat hypocritical to complain about complaining although it might be more subtle to complain that people may not be complaining enough, (silent/tacit acceptance). It's still complaining about complaining however, in an alternate direction.

so get over it.

Oddly, those who urge others to "get over it" are more often than not, the ones engaging in the very activities that are urging others to get over. To exaggerate the point; should those jewish people from the deathcamps have ceased complaining about nazis?

I agree the people complain to much. When you hear one person complaining "I cannot find my 1/4 tsp" and another one complains "every hour of every day I have extreme pain in my hands and I can hardly grasp this cup". It gives you a bit of perspective. All those constant complainers should take up caregiving or working with those less fortunate and you will see how much you really have to be thankful for in this world. You will then realized just how petty your problems really are. When you focus on others you don't have time to focus on yourself and that can be a good thing once in awhile.

I'm not an English teacher but it really annoys me to see things misspelled. How long does it take to spellcheck?? And text speak is the worst. It's lazy.

it is ironic how you are complaining about people complaining. Of course complaining is annoying, especially when you aren't the one doing it.

It is not always on purpose, but then some don't know how to spell. so who cares,,be lucky you have a roof over your head, food to eat and aint living on the street.

I agree with you sillygirl123 my boyfriend does it all the time. I call him Debbie downer, and He gets so mad but He can't go one hour without finding something wrong.  I can't speak for everybody but I do use my phone and a lot of times the phone has that predict a text  and it puts what word it wants to sometimes, but its like if you understand what somebody is trying to say don't sweat it so much. Maybe someone didn't do as well in school or something nobody's perfect. I guess the post should have been about annoying minor complaints. I am a caregiver so I guess when I see what people go thru on a daily basis then see someone mad about words being spelled wrong its like geesh get over it. Everybody makes mistakes and what the Nazis did should never be compared to someone saying get over a typo.

It's a matter of perspective and degree.  What's minor and annoying to one may be major and significantly more than annoying to another.  The WWII example was intended to emphasize subjective hypocrisy.  Why would a minor complaint annoy someone?

Oh puleez Falcon..........you are talking apples and oranges..complaining about a misspelled word does not even come close to the *bleep*'s attempting to wipe out   the entire Jewish population and the Jews complaining about it.....EVERYONE should complain about that!!!!  Bad example, dude...You've got to do better than that to demonstrate an intelligent argument   :bs:

You've got to do better than that at comprehending the response before implicitly 'complaining' that you've missed the point. It's a matter of perspective and degree.  What's minor and annoying to one may be major and significantly more than annoying to another.  That means that a typo "apple" is recognised as a difference in degree of complaint to a holocaust "orange".

.      The part you quoted from me was a question, so no it was not hypocritical. The only way that insert would be was if I said " do you ever get tired of people asking questions " then yes. The other half of my post on the other hand was hypocritical, Im already aware of that hence the "lol".

The form of the question was a tacit complaint, (since it begs the question by insinuation).

The other half of my post on the other hand was hypocritical, Im already aware of that hence the "lol".

The "other half" was directly connected to the preceding 'half' and therefore, shared in the admission of hypocrisy.  This response from me can be considered to be a 'complaint' which I'm not denying either.

Back to the actual post, I do see your point. I get annoyed when it's intentional like texting. But in terms of posting or Instant Messaging I give room to typos. Why resort to placing everything in a word doc for a short response. Take in mind that word at times can be quite ignorant. Some may not be as literate as some whether computer or literature, while some may hav (Intentional typo) poor sight or simply tired while responding.

I think it more depends on the amount of complaining, the topic, and the connection to it, if any.

Saying "I can't find my teaspoon" once or twice isn't bad.  When you complain for hours about it, then that's a little extreme.  However, if it's the last thing you had from your grandma, it's still overboard, but a little more understandable.

As far as the misspelled word, it depends.  If it's obvious that the person is doing it on purpose (like spelling it correctly and then misspelling it later), then it can get annoying.  However, I've had days where I can't type and people jump on you before you get a chance to correct it.  I was trying to type cheetah for a game of online pictionary and typed cheatah, then cheeetah, and then finally got out cheetah.  A few people said that I needed to learn how to spell despite the fact I did get it spelled correctly and was trying to type it faster than the rest of the players, which obviously can cause you to misspell things.

I kinda get annoyed personally if people correct others.  My friend would send letters to her mother telling her about how school is going.  She would get back the same letter, with red markings on it, telling her how to correct the errors in her letter.  After seeing those letters, unless a post is unreadable, I feel the person deserves a break.

And the false accusation would be 'fascist', not "facist", (which doesn't apply since no authoritarianism was implied by the metaphor).  Such misapprehensions are like roof replacements; both go over your head.

Do you also go chasing after the individual who "bad drive" you on the road.

If "bad drive" means driving badly, (that is recklessly enough to endanger themselves and others), then they are likely to be reported to the highway patrol.  Not doing so would be negligent.  Are you negligent?

If such a simple post could move you to use such a distasteful act as an example then I can imagine your thoughts towards the person who made the post or whoever you intended to offend.

The example was metaphorical and not intended to offend.  Just as your various declarations of xtian faith-based comments are presumbly not intended to offend.

Back to the actual post, I do see your point. I get annoyed when it's intentional like texting. But in terms of posting or Instant Messaging I give room to typos. Actually, occassional typos neither offend nor, annoy me.  Even continued ones don't since the tentative conclusion drawn is that such is less than literate. Why bother getting annoyed with the illiterate when if they minded being so, they'd do something about it?

It is aggravating when someone has to nit-pick about a misspelled word. Especially when you can tell it was most likely a simple typing error or a common misspelling. That being said it also aggravates me when people purposely or out of pure laziness misspell words. I also hate when people use 'text speech.'

I don't like text talk either, but do you know it's bad for your health to allow yourself to get aggravated, especially by others.
Control your communication (talk less to people who aggravate you), and yourself in terms of being aggravated (show leniency for your own sake)
after all your response is yours.

I dont believe in chronic, petty, complaints.  If you dont like something, you are fortunate enough to live in a free country, just move on to something or someone you do like.  I live my life by this wise quote,  "I wept because I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet"  That reminds me that there is always someone, somewhere worse off than I am, who really has something to complain about!

Your 'complaint' is either ironic or, it's somewhat hypocritical to complain about complaining. Although it might be more subtle to complain that people may not be complaining enough, (silent/tacit acceptance). Maybe it can be deemed as a 'meta-complaint'.

I understand what you mean.  Some people never have anything good to say.  BUT ...  I think we are all guilty of complaining, I know I am.  We need to be more thankful and realize that it really doesn't help to complain.  I think those who do complain a lot are unhappy, depressed or truly sick so I try not to judge, just listen.

There is not point in complaining about something. It accomplishes nothing. The only worries one should have are those that one can do something about. Otherwise, accept that that's life.

That's not entirely accurate and is somewhat 'defeatist' of an attitude.  Presumably, the reason that complaints are registered is to draw attention to a problem, (such as submitting a support ticket on FC, for example).  The subsequent expectation being that someone may be able to do something about it, (beyond the complaint itself).
