Title: Messy Children
Post by: alainaellington on February 27, 2009, 01:55:43 pm
If you have children, you know they are the messiest little boogers on the face of the earth!!

Yesterday I took my dog out for like 2 minutes, I came back in and my children [[1 and 5]] had everything in my bottom cabinet torn out....a box of spaghetti noodles opened and stuffed into the oven....crackers smashed into the carpet...and my 1 year old is breaking the spaghetti into small pieces and throwing it all over the kitchen....don't worry the oven wasn't on and there is no way they could have turned it on....and the cabinet they had open was the only one that didn't have a child lock on it...it now does....

Anyway...I thank God for the invention of the trash can!!! Where would we hide our messes if not for that spectacular invention!! Not to mention the vacuum cleaner!!

Do any of you have children?? What are some of the messes you have come upon?

When my son was 2, he was the WORST when I took him in the car. He would dump his drinks into the seats, squish whatever food he had onto the floors, and climb out of his carseat while I was driving. At home he wasn't any better. He would constantly take things out of the cabinets and throw it onto the floor, it was like he was going from one thing to another and no matter what you did you couldn't get him to stop. Luckaly they DO grow out of it eventually, but they can definatley be little buggers. My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3, so it kind of helped explain why he never listened and constantly got into stuff. It's tough, but you just have to try and ride it out. Now I have a 4 month old, and theres a lot I'm going to do differently this time around. Like get child locks on all of the cubboards!!

i don't have children of my own.. but i DO have a 6 year old niece ;p
a few days ago she went to school.. and cut her hair with safety scissors! she told her teacher that she did it because "her hair had static in it and wouldn't get out of her face.." needless to say we were all shocked.. i mean, that's something kids do.. but we never thought SHE would! and to top it off she'd never had a haircut (except going to get her bangs trimmed) so it was her baby hair she chopped off, sheesh.

i have 2 (2 & 4) one morning I noticed that they were mighty quiet in their room so I went in to find that they had took the ketchup, mustard and flour out the fridge and it was now all over their wall and floor.  I was mad, but at the time it was kind of funny cause when I walked in my 4 year old looked around like he just walked in on it too, and said, "what's goin on here?" I fell over laughing.

Oh my goodness!! That is funny!! I bet her mother was angry with the teacher...I mean who left her alone long enough for her to cut the "static" out of her hair!! lol

Most definitely!! I know exactly what you mean...

That is too funny!! I would have been laughing too!! Kids are too cute, even when they are being messy!!

My five year old pulls the "innocent" thing a lot...when I know she actually helped her brother get into whatever it is that he got into...she pulls the helpless card....

I have a hard time not laughing at my kids...I don't want to because I want them to know that what they did was wrong, but then again in the scheme of things a little mess now won't hurt everything....and they should know to have fun in life as well...

That's a hard call...

i have three sons and one of my sons, sitting in the high chair, decides, um, to put the food on the floor instead of his mouth, yeah as soon as i turned my back on him for three seconds to put dishes in the sink, he was going to town, so yeah i can relate with you, but got to love them lol

i have a 4 yr old daughter and a 1 1/2 yr old son, my son is very weird at time, we could all be cleaning up and putting stuff away and he will go over and take the stuff out and throw it onto the floor, especially if its clothes that you just folded, also both like to color but not on the paper that we give them, they both have nice artwork on their walls, luckly we are living here for a while. kids they say and do the darnest things

I have 3 boys!  My list of messes goes on and on.  The 21 yr. old inevitably leaves a trail behind him. You can tell exactly where he's been.  Mud at the door, crumbs in the kitchen, shirt on the chair, empty cup in my bedroom, etc. etc. It's like there's no cure!  He drives the 19yr. old crazy when he goes to his room to play video games. He drops things and accidently breaks them.  He'll run on ice and forget that it's ice and break himself!

I was thinking of this subject tonight as I cleaned up the papers the teenage students in my night class dropped on the floor. Last night one of them got his foot caught in a glue rat-trap (yes, our school has rats). It took both my assistant and me to pry the thing off his shoe, after which he tracked glue all over, to our custodian's great displeasure.

 Thank goodness mine is grown now. His room was a disaster area. I used to tell him I felt sorry for his wife when he got married but he made a liar out of me. He actually cleans house and cleans up after the boys and when they come visit they clean up my kitchen after meals. I told my daughter-n-law she trained him well.

I don't have kids, but my mother rents out a home whose previous occupants have two children. I played the job of merry maid when they bought their own house and moved out.

There was crayon everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. Walls, fireplace doors, cabinets. But it didn't stop at crayon. There was washable paint applied by tiny hands. Unfortunately, while it did wash off after hours of scrubbing, it permanently stained the original paint. Repainting so many walls was a total nightmare! I also had to have someone remove the toilet to unclog it of sunglasses, a toothbrush and a device that changes the color of the water.

 :(

Yes, I have a 4 year old son just wouldn't be happy if he could'nt leave a trail of destruction where ever he went. Its become like his trademark! Actually hes's pretty good about cleaning up after himself...most of the time, other times not so much! But I do agree it is simply amazing how quickly they can get themselves into trouble or into something they shouldn't be....the superpowers of children...its crazy! But even with all that craziness I couldn't imagine my life any other way.

Looking forward to hearing more stories from everyone!

I got three little ones 6, 4, and 2.  When the house gets quiet you can pretty much guess there is a mess.  My youngest likes to pour drink all over the floor and jump in it.  My middle one is sweet and into everything he can.  He likes to go into his room and dump out all the toy box to find that one little toy that momma thought he never played with and handed it down to nieces or nephews.  The oldest is a girl and thinks she can get into momma makeup and fingernail polish who likes to practice on her little brothers.  Put all three messes together and you get one big laugh and What mommy we love you and were trying to help.

Cleaning the house should be a paid job...atleast I feel it should be! It's so much work! Especially with 3 adults and kids coming in and out for daycare! YIKES!

-Exhausted!

I know the feeling of having a messy child.  I have one son, he is 3.  I was cleaning my bathroom one day and I then walked back in the living room where my son was watching TV only to find him with a new bottle of Ketchup 64oz bottle and he had empty half of the bottle onto my ottoman.  OHHHHHH he was in so much trouble.  I took me 2 hours shampooing the ottoman to get it all off.  It was a good thing that the ketchup had not dried, then it would have really been a mess. :crybaby2:

My son is almost a year old. I took him off the bottle around 5 months and started him on a soft top sippy cup. The tops screwed on but around 8 months he started on a hard top. Those tops just snap into place. He has 8 teeth and just recently started using his teeth to pop the top off the cup. He then dumps the cup out wherever he's sitting. He's lucky he's cute or else I might have to hand him off to grandma ;)

When my (now 28 year old father of 2) brother was just under 2, my mom was on the phone (no cordless phones at the time!) with her back turned to him. He proceeded to pour out his cup of water onto the dinner table and empty a bag of cinnamon red hot's into the puddle smearing it around to make it look like blood. When my mom asked him "Christopher, did you make this mess?" He just pointed to his little dog and said "Puppy 'pills"

Well, I don't have kids, but I do have 9 pets, so I can relate to dealing with messes! My ferret is probably the messiest/smelliest one, but the dogs will shred anything that they can.
