While I cannot offer the illusion of comfort through 'prayer', all storms eventually pass and it would be well if your family weathered theirs.

Hi Falcon thanks anyways hun. But I do truly believe in the power of prayers....my son's friend 2 weeks ago was in a bad car accident where his gf died on impact and he was brought to the hospital in serious condition. my friends son was in a coma for just over a week and the family asked for prayers on FB and you wouldnt believe the prayers being sent up for Joey...i'm happy to say that Joey came out of the coma and squeezed hs parents hands and is now looking around. we dont know yet the extent of the brain damage but he came out of the coma :) I TRULY believe in the power of prayers.......now I know you're going to come back with some long song and dance about there is no God and blah blah blah , BUT that is YOUR belief NOT mine so please save the loooooong words that I have no clue your using and give this one a rest.......BUT you wont lol....I hope all is well in your world.

Hi Falcon thanks anyways hun.
It's okay if you prefer the illusion of the comfort of superstition to other forms of condolence, albeit slightly rude.
But I do truly believe in the power of prayers....my son's friend 2 weeks ago was in a bad car accident where his gf died on impact and he was brought to the hospital in serious condition. my friends son was in a coma for just over a week and the family asked for prayers on FB and you wouldnt believe the prayers being sent up for Joey...i'm happy to say that Joey came out of the coma and squeezed hs parents hands and is now looking around. we dont know yet the extent of the brain damage but he came out of the coma :)
Presumably, the hospital staff, (and the patient), deserve more of the credit than inaccurately attributing his condition to evocative rituals. I'll go ahead and 'hope' they are skilled enough to assist in the patient's recovery, rather than offer 'wishcraft', (although if you want to reject that too, I'd find it odd that you'd hope for unskilled medical staff).
I TRULY believe in the power of prayers.......now I know you're going to come back with some long song and dance about there is no God and blah blah blah , BUT that is YOUR belief ...
It's more a a disbelief than a belief in "blah blah blah" per se.
NOT mine so please save the loooooong words that I have no clue your using and give this one a rest.......BUT you wont lol....I hope all is well in your world.
Usually, when someone asks me to curtail my normal way of writing, I consider the surrounding context of the 'request' and then decide. Upon consideration, I find that you'd rather have your condolences take the form of superstitious 'evocative wishcraft' and I've already declined that so, let's remember that this is about your son's family and not an argument about the ineffectiveness of evocative wishcraft, alright?
No doubt several other superstitious persons will offer plenty of evocative wishcraft rituals on your behalf.

Alright, and thanks, YES this IS ALL about my son and thanks for WHATEVER you replace instead of prayers :dontknow:.....i'm sticking with prayers thank you

...dont start Falcon...
I'll be satisfied in reminding you that you started this, (the thread and the content); I merely replied due to the request for evocative wishcraft.
unless you just like the attention because you have lack of it....i'm sorry noone eles pays attention to you so you need to find it on here hahaha....
Your speculation is off the mark, I tend to get attention even when it's unwanted, (although possibly not completely unwarranted).

I've been trolled better but, here you go.

-
I sent God An Email ...
Really? Which ISP do 'deities' prefer? Would that be broadband, 'astralband', 'aethyr-net' or some other connection?
-
I'm sorry to hear that... Me and my wife will pray for them... Be strong ma'am. :angel11:
-
consider me praying for u too :angel11:
-
Hoping all will be fine. Prayers and thoughts going your direction. Family is more important then anything. It hurts to see them go through bad times.
-
Prayer is a good . I have prayed for many things and it has saved my life. Keep praying and have faith . we will do both.
-
I certainly hope and pray the situation improves. When it does, watch out for survivor's guilt. My bro was supposed to go out w/ his friends one night, but changed his mind. All but one person in the group he planned to go out with was in an accident. Only one survived. Both he and my bro had survivor's guilt for some time, especially the one who was in the car. Anyway, survivor's guilt can lead to depression and other challenges.
-
I just took a minute to pray for your son and his family and friends.
-
I just took a minute to pray ...
There's 60 seconds you'll never get back, now imagine how that can add up over time.
-
You are definitely in my prayers.
-
Prayers going up....

My son and his family are going through some hard times right now. please pray they make it through :sad1: :angel11:....Thank you sooooo much!!
My heart goes out to your son and his family..I know how hard life can really be..
I will prey for them.. I wish them the best!!!!
-
I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR SON AND HIS FAMILY. IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO SAY A PRAYER FOR OTHERS THAT ARE IN NEED.
-
I will prey for them..
While that might be more effective than praying for them, it's probably not what "cateyes1" had in mind.
-
Hate to say it but, we all need prayer in this world!
-
Hate to say it but, we all need prayer in this world!
Why would we need a dubious placebo effect,; for a false sense comfort? I'd rather see things as they are, rather than as I'd wish them to be.

Praying :angel11:
-
I will certainly pray for your family. I do believe that God answers prayers that truly come from the heart. He is a God of miracles, yesterday, today, and forever!! Jesus is my savior and when we can't pray, he intercedes for us.
-
God knows the need and faith of every person.
God also hears prayers, heard he does when more then one join in prayer, TRUE and I also know he hears a prayer of a single person too.
I JOIN with you and all that joined in prayer too. May God send his angels to guide and protect your son and his family - and may God bless you too. :angel11:

:angel11:
-
I've included Joey in my prayers.

My prayers go out to you and your family we all need them at times in our life. God be with you and yours.

Hope your family the best n keep yall heads up
-
I will say a prayer for you and your family. Prayer is very powerful, and all it takes is two or three people who are in agreement. Anyone who does not believe in prayer, should simply refrain from this post.
-
God's will be done, all things are possible to those who believe.
-
May you feel peace and support during your time of need.
I too have faith and wish you all the best

Have you tried 'praying' for that sort of theocratic censorship?
-
prayers for you and your family~ May God give you strength and comfort during difficult times, and that you will seek him always

Keep your head up-prayer changes things. We are praying for your family!

Naturally, you have verifiable evidence for your claim, no?

I'm sorry to hear that... Me and my wife will pray for them... Be strong ma'am. :angel11:

Thank you to EVERYONE who has sent up prayers for my son and his family, sooooooo appreciated

There is no reason to attribute such to 'prayer', (except blind faith and that doesn't require reason or attributible evidence).
-
Praise the lord, a prayer of thanks has been said!!
-
Praise the lord, a prayer of thanks has been said!!
The attribution is false since there is no evidence to support it. One may as well "praise" a invisible pink unicorn for being equally not responsible.

Falcon I have a what if question for you. you're traveling down a lightly traveled country road, you lose control of your car, you go off the road, you are traped in your car, you're badly injured and chances of you being found are very slim. do you just sit there waiting to die or do you look for a devine intervention?

That would be "divine" intervention and no. If I couldn't use my cell phone to summon assistance or, couldn't crawl out on my own, I might die of my injuries and no 'invisible pink unicorn' could prevent that. I'm pragmatic, not someone who would cling to false hope.

Things have changed since WWII. Now, there are wiccans and satanists, (federally-recognised religions), in the military as well as xtians and atheists. Not only are there atheists in foxholes, they tend to follow General Patton's advise of making the other poor *bleep* die for his country by being better shots, (I qualified as Marksman during basic training).

first Falcon you are either a fool or a lousy liar.
second the quote you attribute to Genaral Patton is not a Patton quote it is a George C. Scott quote never said by Patton only used in the movie.

first Falcon you are either a fool or a lousy liar.
Since I am neither, how did you illogically arrive at that conclusion? There _are_ wiccans & satanists in the U.S. military and both of those are federally-recognised 'religions'. Therefore, you are both a fool and a liar.
second the quote you attribute to Genaral Patton is not a Patton quote it is a George C. Scott quote never said by Patton only used in the movie.
"No *bleep* ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb *bleep* die for his country."
Gen. George S. Patton
Lastly, you asked a question, I answered it and your response was to accuse me of being "either a fool or a lousy liar" without backing up your claim. If you do not choose to back up your specious accusation, you are opening the door to a laundry-list of substantiated assertions concerning your defensive 'arguments'. Are you aure you want to go there? No other xtians have been able to refute those assertions as yet. Who know, maybe you'll be the very first one to do so.

first let me say just because you put what you believe to be a "quote" in quotation marks, does not make it true. that is JUST a line from a movie.
also my "accusing" you of being a fool or a liar was in reference your answer to being traped in your car. not your list of religous and non religous members of the US military.
-
first let me say just because you put what you believe to be a "quote" in quotation marks, does not make it true. that is JUST a line from a movie.
I'll concede that point since I can find no verifiable reference to attributing the quote to Patton's speech to the Third Army. He did, however say "We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have; or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we're going to rip out their living Goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks.
"War is a *bleep*, killing business. You've got to spill their blood, or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shoot them in the guts. When shells are hitting all around you and you wipe the dirt off your face and realize that instead of dirt it's the blood and guts of what once was your best friend beside you, you'll know what to do!"
Close sentiment but, not quite the same as the first quote.
also my "accusing" you of being a fool or a liar was in reference your answer to being traped in your car.
You make a false accusation then since I did not lie about what I'd do if in such an accident, (since I was in one - caused by another driver - in which the car flipped over. I did not 'pray to a hypothetical being' when that occurred. Instead, I turned off the upside-down car's engine which was still running and kicked-out the driver's side window so that I could crawl out). Calling me a "fool" and a "liar" when you have no way of verifying my account or, my preferences is both foolish and dishonest of you.

it is not a "false accusation" sense you say you would not pray then my opinion is your a fool.
It's 'since', not "sense" and that wasn't precisely the false accusation you made, (in calling me a liar). Neither does your opinion that not praying is a foolish non-act since it is baseless and therefore without value. Conversely, there is absolutely no verifiable evidence that 'praying' has any value other than to give some people the illusion of 'comfort', (since it any perceived results cannot accurately be attributed to 'prayer').
On the other hand, the perception that you come across like a sanctimonious, self-deluded, self-righteous fundie is a substantiated conclusion drawn from your sanctimonious, self-deluded, self-righteous fundie posts in these forums.

Why do you feel a need to disprove the power of prayer? and not just let a person who believes believe? maybe you need to get a hobby, may I suggest you going to roadside memorials and ripping down the crosses......

I could say it's due to the direct parallel of a religious adherent's insistence that no life-saving medical procedures be done because it 'goes against their faith and they'd rather pray instead' while the patient dies, (allegedly because it's then claimed that was "god's will"). Or, I could be simply opposed to the promotion of delusional religious superstitious rituals. As far as 'letting' someone believe whatever nonsense they wish to believe; no one can conclusively prevent that. What others can do is express dissenting viewpoints in an open forum once unfounded religious claims are initially posted. Apparently, the none-too-subtle difference between religious adherents INITIALLY posting specious claims/'faith-based' nonsensical assertions and subsequential dissenting replies escapes you.
maybe you need to get a hobby, may I suggest you going to roadside memorials and ripping down the crosses......
Alternatively, it could be suggested that you go join teh Westboro baptists in their "protests" at military funerals. You'd fit right in and no doubt the familes of the deceased would appreciate your efforts tremendously.

If that's a question instead of a statement; no, we get paid for 3 contributory posts out of 30.

Close, but you should've corrected my typo by saying that it's 'the', not "teh", (rather than "het", which was your typo of my typo).
Btw, way to dodge replying to the content & context of the reply. It didn't divert attention from the fact that you dodged it but, nice try.

I want to thank everyone for the PRAYERS for my son and his family !!

I want to thank everyone ...
You already did that yesterday. Short-term memory loss or, tacitly conceding that 'prayer' cannot to attributed to any effect?

Falcon do you EVER sleep?...I wanted to leave it as that, A THANK YOU!!!!!!!! after all this nonsense, (make sure I spelt that right) go to bed or SOMETHING...please leave this thread alone........BUT you wont Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......unless you want to pray for my son and his family as well, he really needs prayers I'm so scared for them...now stop PLEASE!!

Of course.

So it's a passive-aggressive dodge of yours afterall.
go to bed or SOMETHING...please leave this thread alone........ unless you want to pray for my son and his family as well ...now stop PLEASE!!
As usual, I'll go to bed when I choose to, not when you choose to try telling me what to do. Secondly, this is an open thread posted to FC's off-topic forum, not your private 'blog', therefore your request is denied. Lastly, my position regarding the futility of 'prayer' has already been made abundantly clear, (except, apparently, to you). I'm not sure if you're simply 'too poor to pay attention' or too completely brain-washed by your religious beliefs to comprehend a fairly simple concept. To reiterate it; there's no evidence that 'prayer' has any effect beyond the placebo effect and providing a false sense of 'comfort'. Now you can always use the "ignore" function which FC has provided, (or you could ineffectually 'pray' for censorship here).

your ignorance is REALLY showing now, I DONT like your Charector at all...I know I spelt that wrong too as you will clearly point out because of your ignorance and insecurities of belittleing others to make yourself look big, I know your kind....now go pick apart my words your only showing how rude you can be............AND yes I know this is a public forum BUT only YOU will keep this nonsense going because it's clear that NOBODY pays any attention to you so you find the need for it on this forum....and like a nut I feel bad for you and show you the attention you are soooo craving...I always feel for the underdog :(..now pick this one apart ..knock yourself out!!

your ignorance is REALLY showing now
It's becoming doubtful that you know what that word means since you've used it inappropriately.
I DONT like your Charector at all...
That's irrelevant, (which means that it doesn't matter as it's not applicable to the context you're ignoring and yet, keep replying around).
I know I spelt that wrong too as you will clearly point out because of your ignorance and insecurities of belittleing others to make yourself look big...
Pointing out that you appear to be semi-literate would be pointless, (nor does it indicate my ignorance and insecurites and on the contrary, merely emphasizes yours - as this rant of yours indicates).
I know your kind...
No, you don't. That's simply another one of those empty claims you're fond of making, (evidence of this exists in this thread and a few others).
...now go pick apart my words your only showing how rude you can be........
Interspersing replies in context isn't "rude"; you just don't like it, (which doesn't constitute 'rudeness' however, I'm able to be 'rude' in such a way that you'd not perceive it).
....AND yes I know this is a public forum....
Then why did you issue censoring demands? Was it out of ignorance or, self-righteous religious bigotry?
BUT only YOU will keep this nonsense going because it's clear that NOBODY pays any attention to you so you find the need for it on this forum....
Your claim is demonstrably false. Several members of FC have chosen to reply to various threads I've posted in. If you're referring to the many religious adherents who have spared with me in the past, at least 2-3 are still hanging in there and replying.
...and like a nut I feel bad for you and show you the attention you are soooo craving...
Your apprehension stems from something other than a correct perception of the actual situation here. That situation being that my posting on the forums is not a result of "craving attention"; it stems from posting viewpoints which you're unsuccessfully attempting to censor. I'll just note your own admission to being "a nut" and concur.
I always feel for the underdog :(..now pick this one apart ..knock yourself out!!
Then you must be feeling sorry for yourself since nothing in my posts can rationally characterize me as being "the underdog" here. As for picking your post apart, this is my usual posting method, (your not 'liking' it means nothing to me).

And YOU Falcon mean NOTHING to me, GOODBYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And YOU Falcon mean NOTHING to me, GOODBYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Your empty opinions remain as meaningless as your futile attempts to egotistically 'get in the last word', (other religious adherents have tried and failed in that as well although, a few are hanging in there as I stated). Your implicit surrender is accepted, (or 'cease-fire'-with-your-retreat-to- resume-at-a-later-date as the case may be).

Tell me, why would you even want to associate yourself with a semi-literate ? it's not making you look gooooood, i'm bringing you doooown!!

Didn't you say 'goodbye'? Your futile attempts to egotistically 'get in the last word' aren't working, although you could try 'the silent treatment' or, just use the "ignore" FC's function.

Your question was considered to be rhetorical, given your tendency to ignore content and go off on tangents of your own.

Prayers are being lifted up for your family, I hope all goes well.

Why do you feel a need to disprove the power of prayer?
"Despite the Bible's prohibition on magic, prayer is one of the most used forms of magic/sorcery in the world. Specifically it is a form of theurgy, a type of magic which invokes the presence or actions of one or more gods. So apart from the fact that prayer is useless, it violates the strictures of the Bible, meaning all good Christians should kill anyone who prays, (under the "not suffering a sorceror to live" clause)."
