There are many paths that our Children take that we would rather they didn't, but we must be supportive none the less. Bottom line is: If it is God's will for him to make it through the academy and become an officer, then God will also keep his guiding and gracious hands upon him at all times. Yes, prayers will be sent up and remember each time you talk to your Son, just lift him up and say nothing to him to cause un-do stress or add anything he would have to think about other than his job.  That's how I handle things with my Son who is almost 30 years old.  Hope this helps,  have a blessed day!  ;)

It is always hard to let your children go.  No matter what career path they have chosen a Mother still worries. Military, Police Academy or whatever are dangerous job, but I really admired the young people wanted to make a difference in someone's life.

I don't think there are any words to prepare for this when our children choose a dangerous path. My son is a wildlife fire fighter. I never know when he will be gone or where they will send him. I just pray a family of angels around him and his crew every day they are on a fire. I also pray for our military families and the loved ones they have serving. Will join you in your prayers.

My dad was a police officer and retired at 60.  He died after he retired from cancer.  So I say tell your son congrats! But I will pray as well.  I'm a mom too, and I have a nephew who is graduating from the Police Academy. I understand your worrying. But he'll be fine:)

Tell your son "Thank You" , "Thank You" , "Thank You" if I had a hat I would take it off for him. May God and His angels protect him everywhere he goes.  :angel11:

I'll pray for him and for you, too.  We were that way when our oldest son went into the Navy - he'll be in for 10 years this August.  Although there were more than a couple of scares, he has once again landed safely on American soil.  He has definitely been protected by prayer.  Let us know how he does through training and afterwards!  :)

:angel11: Well, the only comforting words I have is to do exactly what you already said you were going to do, which is all any of us can do, which is to pray over our children daily.  We just can't choose their path for them but the bible said he will direct our paths...................so keep the faith, try not to worry and remember all any of us can do is trust God to take care of us... I will pray that God will keep your son from all danger and harm.

He has definitely been protected by prayer.

Doubtless being on an American warship and not being targeted had nothing to do with it and his safe return was attributable to an intercessory magical ritual performed to enveigle a hypothetical supernatural being to intervene instead.   ::)

... remember all any of us can do is trust God to take care of us...

That is far from "all" any of us can do.  Prayer doesn't stop bullets or bombs from impacting a target and never has.  If anyone doubts this fact, they are not encouraged to experiment in order to confirm the convictions of their 'faith'.

Oh yes it can! Although it didn't happen to me personally ( I don't need to experiment), I know a young man with which a gun was aimed at his head, and the trigger was pulled, but the bullet didn't penitrate. He has the mark on the side of his head to prove it and I saw it . While this was going on, his mom was on the phone praying for him, not even knowing this was going on. He went to the hospital to get checked out, and was released because the doctors found nothing wrong with him. You can't tell me prayer doesn't work, just like I can't tell you what to believe.

I can't imagine what you must be going through, but just know that I will be praying for your son.

While it's understandable for a 'believer' to "believe" that an intercessory magical ritual, ("prayer"), had some sort of unspecified causal connection to a mis-aimed weapon, (or a particularly hard skull/skewed trajectory), attributing such an incident to the intercession of a hypothetical supernatural being isn't a rational conclusion.

I can respect your viewpoint, however, based on my own life and personal experiences, I can say without a doubt that prayer works and is not a "magical ritual" as you stated.

My husband is a deputy, actually Sergeant of the night shift in the county.  I watched all sorts of horrid videos of what could happen.  If you know the Lord, Jesus, you can rest assured that nothing can happen to him without His allowance....The possibility of him dieing just driving to the store is probably greater than trouble because of his job.  Don't forget, he does have a gun! =)  Honestly, I don't wish to make light.  Trust him to God's care and trust him there.  Cover him in prayer and don't worry...it won't change anything anyway.

Making 'non-causal' connections and attributing effects to the cause of "prayer" based upon ancedotal testimony does not constitute evidence that "prayer works".  Since you've also contended the underlying meaning of the concept, a comparion example is warranted.

Magical intercessory rituals include: silent or spoken incantations intended to encourage the intercession of a supernatural entity, either on behalf of the one performing the ritual or, another.

Intercessory Prayer: silent or spoken incantations intended to encourage the intercession of a supernatural entity, either on behalf of the one performing the ritual or, another.

Some rituals, (generally not the more mundane ones), include the silent or spoken incantations intended to encourage the intercession of a supernatural entity, either on behalf of the one performing the ritual or, another. These rituals are dependent upon the 'belief' that such supernaturals being enjoined to intercede exist and are able to be enticed.  Therefore, such "prayers" are magical intercessory rituals.

Making 'non-causal' connections and attributing effects to the cause of "prayer" based upon ancedotal testimony does not constitute evidence that "prayer works".  Simply attributing a cause to an effect does not establish such an attribution as a cause.

These rituals are dependent upon the 'belief' that such supernatural entities enjoined to intercede actually exist and are able to be enticed.  Therefore, such "prayers" are magical intercessory rituals lacking substantive evidence linking their performance to any particular effects.
