Title: Chit Chat
Post by: SherylsShado on June 04, 2012, 04:30:35 pm
This thread is the place to list any miscellaneous that doesn't belong in other threads (because it has the potential to make them go "off topic").  Kind of a "FC graffiti board" so to speak, have fun!!  ;D

@ falcon9 AND jordandog:

     I'm currently having some "problems".  Both of my jobs each have a person that is out having some form of intestinal surgery and so their hours all got dumped on the rest of us.  It's been 14-16 hour work-days, and will continue for a couple of weeks at the least.  It doesn't give me much time to 'figure out what is wrong' with my computer but I will be trying when I can.

     My cat chewed the computer cord and it's slowing things down (as there is little teeth punctures all down the cord, the computer works but not very well).  Will be getting a new cord hopefully I will have time this week.

     My computer is also doing something else that seems "odd".  Perhaps it's a "coincidence"...   probably at my ex"spence"...
if I can't get it to work right, at least I have the "coincidence" and ex"spence"  and will go that route then.

     I just wanted to let you both know that I am working on the "issue", not ignoring ya...extra time is scarce right now.   :)

With all that happening at once, I'm surprised there was time to even let us know about it.  No worries, no deadlines here.  Remember to rest, relax, recuperate too during all the frenzy.

actual graffiti is quite artistic

The only graffiti in my area is the "non-artistic" kind mostly...all gang-signs, profanity, "nick loves daisy" or "I was here".
Found some neat ones on-line though...

@falcon9,

     I guess today and hopefully tomorrow are the "rest, relax, and recuperate" days since I can barely walk.  Hopefully neither job tries to call me in.  I don't know what I did, think it has something to do with the new work shoes I had bought.  Perhaps they were too "lightweight"/flimsy.  Both jobs are rather continuously fast-paced and my feet feel like they are bruised at times and without skin many others.  Not good. :(
    I did manage to replace the computer cords today (but not before something smelled like it was burning).  Hopefully no damage to actual computer.  Want a cat?  So far he's costed me more in "chewed damages" than it costed to adopt both him and Sammy AND all their first year vet bills. >:( Geez!

Cats seem to like cords alright.  About the only things possible to prevent chewings are hide the cords or, wrap them in tin-foil, (as long as there aren't any already-exposed inner wiring holes in the outer cord sheathes).

We cannot accept any more cats since those we currently have are apparently either furry daemons or, advance-scouts for a feline race of invaders.

I worked at a large dept. store for years, so know what you are going through and yes go to a spe. shoe dept. and get fitted, there was times i would be on my feet for hours at a time. would also change shoes off and on during the day. depending on what i had to do. Heels are the worst thing for your feet. Although i did not enjoy a couple of car wrecks in 3 months ( not my fault, rearended and the side  both ran red lights) The dr. took heels away from me, It helped my back and feet so much. The shoes with springs in the heels are super. If you can wear them at work go for it.

    Thanks for the tips potluck6 & vickysue!!  I'll definitely be checking into the ideas that you mentioned because I can't seem to find a great work shoe to save my neck.  (If we were allowed to wear Crocs, then I'd be having no problems.  I wore those for my last "busy" job and loved them!)  My second job has reluctantly said I could wear Crocs...so yay!!  I do have a pair of "work Crocs" for my primary job, they just aren't as comfy as the originals. :(
    I had a pair of "rocker" shoes that I had been wearing to both jobs and then got really bad leg cramps and back spasms.  Those shoes tone your legs while walking and I recently found out one isn't supposed to wear them more than a couple of hours a day. ???
    I then bought a pair of very lightweight shoes that almost resemble "ballet slippers", they were so comfy to wear for a few days (and still are), I had put cushioned inserts in the bottoms because there isn't much padding to them and no arch support but being on a cement floor for both jobs, rushing all over at a fast pace for sixteen hours...feet got so sore they feel bruised.   ::)  I have to go buy another pair for sure before tomorrow so I will probably go with a pair with the "springs in the heels" right away.  I did have a co-worker that wore a pair of those, I asked her if they were comfy and she didn't really say so I hadn't considered them until now.  Thanks so much for the help!! :thumbsup:

@SherylsShado-
A possible cord solution for you-
go to usplastic.com; find category "Sheet" (in columns on/across the top), mouse over that and in drop-down box click "Spiral Wrap" then "Natural & Black Spiral Wrap". (Or you could pick the fluorescent, but it's more $$)

We had to get a  :bootyshake: load of this and wrap a  :bootyshake: load of cords because of chewy monsters-
easy to put on, works excellent, pretty cheap.

Excellent!!  Thank you!!!!!  I'm going to have to order quite a bit too, have alot of cords and it's getting frustrating.  He's chewed the telephone cord twice, my printer cord, the tv cord, the vacuum cleaner cord, the fan cord, the computer cords twice, the pet 'pro-bather' cord, hair dyer cord and his latest was to work on the cord to the microwave. (He's only alive because I don't keep any of that stuff plugged in 24/7).   He never does his cord-chewing when I'm home either.  He's also eaten most of the "spokes" out of my broom.  I'm thinking it would probably be cheaper to "Spiral Wrap" him? ;D  Thanks for giving me some hope, I'll be ordering for sure tonite!!

My dad had a cabin-cruiser and we used to have a major problem with getting kelp wrapped-up in the propeller blades off the coast of California.  If you can't use the spiral wrap on your errant cat, maybe kelp would suffice?

Yep, kelp would probably work great too (and possible health benefits if he chews on it???).  I hope there's nothing wrong with the little guy, he's been very clingy and sleeping alot the past few hours.  Not like him at all.  :-

It may be that he misses you more lately if you've been away working longer hours though.  Aloof as they tend to be, even cats crave attention.

I kinda thought he chewed the computer cords because I had started back at the night job and he wasn't happy...I saw the look of disappointment on his face when I went to leave one night and then I come home to a "wacky-acting computer".  He's never been one to want that much attention.  I guess if he doesn't act like hisself tomorrow, he'll be going to the Emergency Clinic.  I suppose with his luck he's probably got a perforated intestine from a broom "spoke" or something...  ::)

Better safe than sorry, since you're very concerned about his health.  What I'd meant before is that they'll generall 'act' aloof but, miss their human 'pets' immensely while we're away.

Turned out that the cat is fine, didn't have to go to the vet after all...yay!!  (He's sure a wierd one...) :cat:

Had a fender-bender last night at a nearby gas station, that's the LAST time I pull into one when it is so crazy-busy...and at night.  (Because where I live, the taverns outnumber the churches 6:1 and it's not uncommon to see cars swerving all over the road after 9 p.m.  Even saw a police car swerving all over the road once AND he jumped a curb as he turned a corner. :o)  I was waiting for a gasoline pump and the truck ahead of me went to pull ahead and leave.  My car was running, had the lights on...I didn't even get a chance to pull ahead before the truck went in "reverse" full speed and came flying back at me hitting my car head-on and the trailer hitch on the truck broke my bumper.  I had honked the horn and he still kept coming, he didn't even brake!  First thing the dude said when he got out of his truck and looked at my car "I DIDN'T DO THAT".  Unbelievable.  Had alot of witnesses, security tape, $749 in damage, a backache... and a headache.  (No serious injuries, just "sore".)  As I got the estimates done for the damage today, one estimator said "People drive like idiots around here, it's good for business and nothing else".  He got that right...  >:(
     Maybe I should forget getting it professionally repaired and go with the "beads & seqins" graffiti "cover up" like the photos of this cool car...
