I did this job when I was younger and It isnt very pleasant to be a call center rep but it does pay and if you actually get sales you earn a commision. The bad thing I didnt like was calling around dinner time cause I felt it was very disrespectful to the family or persons. So that would be my lunch break when I could. Try and stick with it after all you are gaining customer service skills and people skills that you can put on your resume.

I used to do tech support in a call center many years ago. I actually loved it. There were insane and rude people on the phone from time to time, and sometimes it could get very stressful when there were a lot of calls coming in, but I loved my co-workers and the atmosphere. I used to love it when I'd get someone on the phone who was truly upset and frantic over a computer issue, and I was able to get them working again.

Call center is not one that I have ever done, but I can imagine that it could truly feel redundant and maybe get boring after a while.  I don't know.  If it is steady pay, I may be able to deal with it, but I would not want anything that is just straight commission.  Were you calling out or were you taking incoming calls?  Did it stay busy? Were there totally dead moments or dead days?  I would have to consider that one.  Not only have I never done call center, but I have never had a desk job.  I can see the ups and downs, I guess.

I used to enjoy it. Especially when I was doing calls for St Jude, the animal shelters etc. It made me feel like I was making a difference. Working at a call center actually you can use your experience at home and to help others. For instance if you arent really interested in something on the phone I always say here's your 1st no, your 2nd no and your 3rd no. If they still keep trying here's your 4th have a nice day. Goodbye and hang up.

Wanted to be a call center representative or a customer service representative for a long time, finally got my chance. Wish I had done it much earlier in life. And I  used the money to start a home based business. Worked until 5pm at the center and had nights and weekends off for my business it was all great. While I worked at the various centers I won a few awards and met some nice people. Missed it when I when full time with my home based business.

we dont work on commission. we work at an hourly rate and we have incoming calls.. sometimes needing to send the customer to a different department when things are out of our hands. today i had 2 stupid ladies back to back that wouldnt shut up while i was trying to do something for them. question after question and didnt let me have any time to resolve each problem for them. she just did what she wanted and disregarded what i was saying to her. when i was getting help on her issues today she was still talking in my ear and it was very hard to listen to her and my helper at the same time. SHUT THE HELL UP and let me do what u asked me to do...and let me do it efficiently as i'm supposed to. it was very frustrating coz i couldnt do anything without her needing to have to talk. so i finally put her on hold so i could concentrate on her issue and my helper could walk me through things faster. i ended up needing to transfer one of them to a different department coz she was just getting on my nerves and i couldnt help her coz she kept changing what she was telling me that was going on. 30+ mins on a call is way too much time to put up with blabber mouths not letting u do ur job. OH.. ya'll i work for chase bank as a telephone banker.  we help people with their online accounts and other accounts they have with us. like, we can send them a new debit card over the phone, unlock accounts, and etc.  trust me there is a lot of stupid people that call in. i have never got cussed out yet but my co worker was told today to go to hell. who would say that when someone is trying to help them? like i said, stupid.

I enjoyed it when I worked at the call center. We would compare different calls with each other. The one I remember was a brain surgeon answering in the operating room. He thought I was calling him about the repairs on his high end car. He got mad when I asked him some questions about his recent repair visit. I thought he was the crazy one answering the phone while he was in the operating room.

I worked in an outgoing call center in college. We called for the office of admissions to high school and transfer students who were interested in our university, so it wasn't too bad since the people requested information. My wife, on the other hand, worked in a call center in college that called people on welfare asking how they were doing----not fun at all for her!!

Working at a call center sounds boring, and is not for everybody. A whole lot of patience is needed, along with the ability to disregard rude comments.  :)

I used to work for Customer Loyalty Concepts, a company that helps various companies, usually newspaper and magazine companies, retain their customers. I certainly got an earful from the customers whom I was offering special rates for not cancelling. It was especially bad when the newspapers in WA had some scandal about 11 years ago. CLC was a company whose employees worked from their homes using special software that kept track of their clients' data and payment info.

One of the weird things that happened was when I called NY. Many times, I called a legit number and I suddenly became a "ghost" 3rd party in an on going phone call. It was weird. I could hear everything the other 2 people were saying and they couldn't tell I was there no matter how loudly I talked. Creepy- so watch what you say on the phone!

we got new desks ..and i like them better coz i can see everyone without having to stand up. online calls are the worst coz they take up most of ur time and sometimes u have to reset their passwords, and etc. i had a couple of people request to go to the spanish line ..which was good coz i didnt have to help them. then i had one who's phone was breaking up all the time and it was hard for me to understand what he needed me to do so i had to ask him 20 million questions coz i only got half of what he was saying. it was really frustrating.

My mom worked in a call center for 25 years !! they fired her because she didnt make her sales goals and she was in customer care for a bank ppl are calling with complaints about there bank not to get a loan etc. but yes she didnt make her goals after 25 years they fired her horrible she worked there longer then i have been alive and they fire her!!! anyways she hated it politics, drama and horrible customers flipping out on her everyday luckily the customers ands stuff she didnt mind she actually enjoyed talking to customers but the politics goals and mandatory unpaid mandatory she didnt not enjoy and being treated like garbage didnt feel that great she was unemployed for about a year and a half and working at another call center the training was hard and a lot of intense work she is getting paid less but truly enjoys it a great complany to work for that doesnt treat her like dirt and she is a valued employee so i think a lot has to do with the company versus 100% about the position of the job

I use to take calls at home. People can be rude and hang up while you're still talking. It was kind of difficult making money because commissions was based off of your being able to close sales.

It depends on which call  center you work at and who you work with.  I have had some call center jobs I hated and some I liked.  Thye make perfect part time jobs but can suck as full time jobs.

There are worse jobs out there.  I had a full time job during the day and was a Milkman at night getting only three hours of sleep between jobs and beating myself to death both physically and mentally. I have landed a few cushy desk jobs since then and, even during the suckiest times, Thank the Lord for having a job, having a life outside of the job, and gradually getting my heallth back. I delivered newspapers for two years while working a full time job.  Being able to stay inside where you are out of the elements and able to use your brains rather than braun is a blessing!

I deal with pressure all day when in conference with a slew of different of personalities, but I probably don't deal with half the color of personalities that would come from a call center. I don't think I have the calmness to have such a job, but would probably take this more than a job which require direct interaction (i.e. teller, cashier, steward).

Well, actually I worked at two call centers (last two jobs I had before retiring/being declared disabled) and I loved it.  I guess its like any other job, its either your thing or its not.  Neither one was sales related and mostly though out the total of 7 years employment were incoming calls not outgoing so maybe that made the difference.  I made good bonus $$, could just come in, sit down and go to work and for the most part, no one bothered me.  I loved it.

I actually had fun at the call centers. I enjoyed the people I worked with and the people I talked to on the phones. You lend them your ear and thye thank you for that. Whether or not you get the donation, sale or whatever you were offering you made their day. Take pride in yourself.Give someone  hope a smile or anything something they normally dont get. People do hurt. I have been through alot in my life. Even though my brain dont work like it used to . I enjoy being there for others. I am a stroke survivor, I lost a spouse due to being hit by a car. I suffer a severe headaches. In the past 3 years I have been diagnosed with epilepsy, severe anxiety and depression. I have 2 kids 24 & 26. I have  5 grandchildren and 1 on the way. I love them very much. My old man at times doesnt understand what I am going through. I always find my way. When I had my strokes I was temporarily blind but now I see. There is a song something like that to.  I worked as a home health aide and I also took care of the mentally challenged. Everyone has different names for things. I take offense to some of them especially after all I have gone through. Besides my kids, family, nephews and nieces and other family I feel strong. Reba mcintyre ( I apologize if I spelled her name wrong) has been my idol, sole idol with her  song I am a Survivor. That song makes me cry and I stand by it.

I completely agree it sucks.  I worked in a call center for 7 years.  I hated all but one year when I was doing correspondence and not on the phones.  I made decent money.  In fact I made more money doing that than what I am doing now but I vowed will never ever work in customer service (actually my job now is customer service) or work in a call center ever again.  My company went bankrupt (famous scandal) and I was happy my center closed.

I work at a mortgage call center.  I actually like it, though there are always certain calls where you want to tell the person--so what, I don't care.  It's always amazing to me what ppl will say over the phone.  Not the private stuff, but the conspricary theories and the sad, poor me stories.  I realize ppl are in bad spots, but really why do they think it's my place to get them out of it.  Pay your bills or get in the program for the help.  Don't yell at me!

I worked in a call center a couple of years during the holiday season. Overall it was a good experience people were calling in about buying products and there were only a few complaints. At the one I worked at complaints are typically handled by more experienced individuals so you just pass the call on if there was an issue. Not all call centers are terrible. What got to me most was by the end my voice was very hoarse and my throat was sore.

I've spent 8 years doing call center work. Seven years were at major credit card and bank and one year for a major phone/tv/internet company's vendor. The first company paid extremely well with benefits effective day one of employment. The second one paid a few dollars less an hour but was till good pay and the third one's pay was not good at all...it sucked.

The thing about call centers....they're very stressful and they'll ship your job overseas in a heartbeat. People are more bold over the phone because they know you can't touch them. Therefore they're twice as nasty....but some of them rightfully so because of the companies poor customer service in some aspects. And, sitting all day is not good for the body. Good luck

Come work as a courtesy clerk like myself and I bet you won't enjoy it very much as well. I gotta go outside in all kind of weather to collect the grocery carts. I gotta put up with a lot of jerks and that includes people I take orders from too. I been trying to get a better position with the company for a year now and I seem to get rejected all the time. I even reminded the manager in the home department that she needs to give me a interview and she remembers but, never gave me one. I continue to remind her and still nothing happens. My work won't even let me train a new co-worker and I been there for 2yrs now. You would think I know a thing or 2 about being a courtesy clerk by now and I could share my knowledge/experience with the new co-worker. I guess, they don't see it that way or something.
