I used to suffer from Insomnia, the very best thing I've discovered to help me fall asleep is melatonin. It's cheap, and it's not a behind the counter medication. It's also a natural thing produced in our brain.

do you have something on your mind that needs resolved.

That sounds like a great remedy that I need to try. I have a lot of trouble sleeping due to a health problem that keeps me up sometimes. Sometimes I just can't get to sleep and sometimes I have trouble staying awake. So I can relate to to sleep problems. I think I'll try the melatonin remedy. Thanks for the recommendation. Is there a specific brand you can recommend?

I had that problem last night. Don't eat any sweets or drink soda before bed. I hope you get some rest. I know how you feel.

For me it has to do with a busy mind that wont be quiet. It is thinking about things that bother me, what I have to do the next day, etc etc. What I do about that is before I go to bed write! Get it all down on paper..feelings, to do list etc. Resolve it in my mind so I don't lay there and think about it all. Experts say, turn off TV, radio, music etc a half hour before sleep. Stop allexcercise 2 hours before sleep. (These things leave your body over stimulated which makes it harder to sleep) Food: If you must....no sugar starch or caffeine, eat a protein snack..nuts, chicken strips etc, but not too much. Keep your room as dark as possible, and cool. If your mind starts to wander, think thoughts like how sleep nourished the body, that you are worthwhile and so deserving of sleep. Keep your thoughts in that direction to block out other thoughts. Hope it helps

i try sleepytime tea and a nice massage. maybe some sexual activities before bed will help too.

Melatonin is the only thing that works for me, too. It is the only thing that gets my brain to go to sleep! You have to go to bed within 20 minutes or so of taking it, though. There is NO after effect the next day. That is one of the best parts about it! You find it near the vitamins.

Sometimes it is hard to sleep properly when we have a lot of different things on our minds. Remove the stress factors from your life.

I usally can't sleep only when im stressd out/even every day stress can do that to you/try to find something that relaxes you ex=calming music, medition, your fav tea, bubble bath.Netflix puts me to sleep at night.

If I find myself laying in bed for more than 30 minutes and not being able to fall asleep, that's when I get up and do something. It generally ranges from exercising, cleaning, working, etc. Normally I try to do something that won't prevent me from going to sleep when I get tired though. One thing to try is watch a movie (non-scary) one in a dark room. For me, my body will remain awake more often if I am in a fully lit room then if I am in a dark room.

It sounds like you have insomnia. You should ask your doctor if their is something you can take, like Ambien or something. The only times I can't sleep are whenever I constantly think about different things at night.
-
OTC sleeping meds usually work pretty great. If those don't work you're going to have to see a doctor. Or there are some other remedies like tea, melatonin, and valerian root. Sometimes eating or drinking before bed can keep you awake or taking in too much caffeine during the day.

I find the general tips are quite good, like dark room, writing, reading, etc. There is also the possibility that you are so exhausted that your whole body just want to lay there and fall asleep, but you've reached a point where your mind just won't because the exhaustion. Sometimes you keep thinking about falling asleep and when you don't, you think about it even more; and that keeps you're brain active, then you get frustrated about it, and at that point, it is very very hard to fall asleep. Over the counter sleep aid, or prescription would help, even a painkiller would help to relax your mind. In my case a simple beer while watching tv before bed quiets my brain, but it rarely happens to me. Personally, light in my room does not bother my sleep, and tv on but very low volume or a fan turned on does not bother me as well, it blocks out the outside noise. Also it depends if you are a heavy or light sleeper, if you have insomnia or if it's just one of those nights. Most often than not, it's on our minds, I know people that drink a beer or take sleep aid every night after work because it "puts them to sleep", however, I think they have already influenced themselves into believing they "need it". Just try not to rely on "sleep aids" of any kind on a regular basis.

Is it something simple like are you staying up too late for too long throwing off your biological sleeping clock? Or are you eating heavy late night snacks? Or is your mind wondering thinking about problems?

Do you have a lot on your mind?

I always use this method also and it always amazes me how well it works. I like this method because it is natural and requires no drugs or medication of any kind which can have harmful side effects or become addictive.

I have tried the melatoin and it doesn't seem to help I think I might need a higher dose I was taking 2 mg.
-
I go through the same every night I read a book it helps some what
-
try a warm bath before going to sleep ;D
-
Avoid caffeinated drinks and yes! visit your local pharmacy for OTC (over-the-counter) medicines because they really work.
-
I used to get that, but I am fine now. I found that reading a book before sleeping really helped because I personally hate reading. Reading makes me very bored and sleepy; especially when I am laying down. I think that a quiet environment really helps too. Maybe you should listen to natural sounds such as rain and oceans.

My cure is usually a nice long hot shower.

Thanks everyone for your great ideas here I sit on another night that I can't sleep and decided to check back for ideas. I think I will try some.

If you do happen to overcome your sleep problem using any of the previous advice, even if just for a few days, I would suggest trying to wake up a bit earlier than normal, perhaps an hour or two; you should feel more exhausted by the time that your ideal sleeping time comes which will help you fall asleep immediately, or much easier.
