I call it a couch, my parents have a sofa, and my grandparents had a davenport. What about you?
-
I call it a couch! My parents also called it a couch!
-
I call the long one a couch and the short one a sofa. I have never called anything a davenport and I don't really know the difference.
-
My mother used to call it the davenport, I call it the couch and my boyfriend calls it the sofa. :peace:

Usually couch....occasionally sofa. It's funny how people use different words depending on the area of the country they are from.
I.E. purse vs. pocketbook, soda vs. pop, etc....
-
Sometimes divan, sometimes couch & sometimes sofa. I don't remember what my parents called them but I don't think it was davenport.
-
We call it a sofa and sometimes we call it a couch. I don't know what a davenport is????? :dontknow:
-
Mainly I call it a couch, but I love to refer to it as a davenport just to see what kind of reaction I can get. My grandparents were the only people I have heard call it that.
-
Couch most of the time. May use sofa here and there.
-
Yeah, It is what it is. I grew up with davenports, then my folks bough a sofa in the 1950's. Then , my wife and I bought our first couch in 1962. I grew up with linoleum floors, roll up window shades, curtains, and even a Ice box. My children grew up with refrigerators, tile floors, carpeting and drapes. I had it wonderful though, for some people in this world still have dirt floors to this day!!!

I have always called it a couch and so does my parents. I have heard others call it a sofa, but I have never heard someone call it a davenport.
-
I think "davenport" is a midwestern term. Lots of folks from other parts of the country have never heard of it!

I call it a couch. I have never heard it called a davenport. That's neat.
-
All my family call it couch. I have known people around us to call it a sofa but not very often.

This is interesting. I don't know if it a generational thing or if people just call it different things in different regions of the country. kind of like cola, coke, pop, whatever. I have never even heard it called a davenport, but I call it a couch myself.
