Every year I try to make something different and I'm up for new ideas?
-
im makeing broccoli casserole and jalapeno slaw

I'm eager to see what ideas nycgal has, she seem to have the best ideas for recipes. I'm also looking for something different to cook. My son is so picky I am in need of something to boost his moral of dressing or maybe something similar to dressing instead of just mashed potatoes. :)

We make a version of mashed potatoes that has mustard and miracle whip mixed in. It turns them yellow and gives them a creamy taste. So, I mean, it's not necessarily new, but a twist on a favorite for most people. We occasionally add hard boiled egg pieces as well but I prefer them without. Plus, they are awesome the second day if you fry them in a pan with some butter. They get a slight brown tint and it's amazing.

I'm making a celery casserole that is a family tradition, but a dish that my boyfriend absolutely hates!!!! I am also making my traditional taco dip with cream cheese, taco seasoning, salsa, green peppers, cheese and black olives. Usually, everyone fills up on that and then complains they are too full. But it goes great with football. I'm leaving the turkey, gravy, potatoes and other stuff to my sisters and mom to make. I will make a pumpkin pie from scratch, though, if I can get a pie pumpkin. I think because of the crazy weather this year, the farmers didn't grow as many. I'm not seeing them in the stores anymore.

sticking with the usual stuff that i know everyone likes.Turkey with stuffing inside the bird, some say not a good idea but have done for years and never a problem.mashed potatoes, vegtables, rolls and pumpkin pie i make it from scratch it's the only pie i make all year and 2 of them.better to stick with what you know but do enjoy all the shows about turkeyetc.Learned to put butter all over the bird before putting it in the oven.

I'll be doing the traditional Thanksgiving dinner for all of us: baked turkey, brocilli and cheese casserole, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce,pretzel-jello salad, twice-baked potatoes, yams topped with marshmellows, pickle and olive tray, rolls, sweet tea, coffee, carmel pie and a couple of other deserts I haven't decided on yet. And, as if thats not enough, one of our daughters boyfriends is bringing a smoked ham. Hope all of it will turn out good. Should be something for everyone. lol

I have to work but will probably fix a little something Wednesday and eat supper with my mother at the nursing home after work on Thanksgiving. I might get something from the deli at the store, too, if they have anything left when I get off.

For the past couple years I've made savory pumpkin soup that everyone loves. I might try a different squash soup instead, since canned pumpkin is quite expensive at the current moment.

Looking forward to dressing, baked in a dish not stuffed in the turkey. Cornbread stuffing with giblet gravy. And "jerk" dressing made from bread and Jamaican jerk seasoning. A friend whose parents were from Jamaica used to make it for me. But since he died playing JUDO last November I will have to make it myself.

I get to go to my son and daughter-in-laws for Thanksgiving. I just have to bring my son's favorite dessert which is a pistachio dessert made with ice cream.

I'm usually pretty Traditional too however last year I made, for the first time, Loaded Blondie Brownie's. I found the recipe on Pinterest and my family is begging for them again this year.
