Title: Scam alert: Publishers Clearing House
Post by: stretch1967 on November 15, 2012, 08:13:35 am
This morning I recieved a phone call from someone claiming to be David Sawyer. He said he was from Publishers clearing house. He also told me that I won 5,000.00 a week for life as well as a mercedes. He asked me what i thought about that and i told him I was in shock. He gave me an 800# as well as an address for pch so that I could call him back at to verify who he was. I called it back. It took a few minutes and then he came on the phone. He said he will be at my house at 2pm today. He said the reason he called me so that I would not have a heart attack. Noone knows that but my family and friends. I called the scam line for pch. They told me that they would not call first. I alerted my local police and they will be patrolling my area to make sure that they dont try anything. They told me that they probably wont show.   See today stil isnt my lucky day. :crybaby2:

PCH has always seemed like a gigantic scam. I'm confused, though. Are you afraid this guy is actually going to show up at your house and harm you? I'm not entirely sure that seems like it'd happen, mostly because if it's a scam, they're scamming the entire country... and I don't think they can get to everyone's home.

It's a good thing you actually checked up on it. Too many people fall for the scams that are so common today.

Well, I'm not sure if PCH can be contacted concerning this however, they do publish a winner's list on their site.

I think that PCH is and always has been nothing but a SCAM!   Whenever I see things from them in the mail, I put return to sender on the envelope and mail them back!

One would try however, doubtless PCH is inudated with "did I win, did I win?" inquiries.

Exactly, as to with the point of give me my prize, then not receive it.

I'm sorry that you got scammed. As far as I know pch is real. It is just freakishly hard to win anything! This one lady participated for 20 years and just won a prize. lol The thing I like about pch is that they have really good deals on stuff if you ever buy anything.

They do have winners but I'm not one yet and I've been entering their sweeps since I was a teenager and I'm 60 y/o. Once in a while I have ordered some things I liked and couldn't find anywhere else. It's been a few years ago that they were legally required to add the statement that "an order will not increase your chance of winning."

They did not show up like this guy David Sawyer said. On pch website they have link to click on just for scams.  I called that and also my local police dept. I dont trust anything like that. A few months back I was contacted by a David Sawyer on facebooking asking me to send them a 500.00 check. I kept asking him questions and he was getting annoyed. I told him also that pch never asks you for money and that is why he dropped it. Yesterday I am not sure what the deal was but Im not any richer than other day. I was told they problably bought my name through phishing. So please everyone beware.

I don't think PCH is a scam but like someone else on here said, it is just really hard to win anything.  My mother-in-law used to order magazines thru PCH in hopes of winning.  She would send the subscriptions to me too in hopes of bettering her chances by ordering more but I never did have time to read the magazines I got.  After she passed away it was a long time before PCH stopped sending her things in the mail.  Needless to say my father-in-law did not carry on with what she had started.  lol  I used to enter the sweepstakes myself but never ordered anything.

I wasnt  trying to tell anyone that pch was fake. I was just alerting everyone they do not call your house first. I had went on the pch website and called the 800#. I dont want anyone getting scammed. They seem to be targeting the elderly in Ohio.

LOL that's clever!  I never thought of doing that.  Does the postal service always comply?
