During holiday season, you see them outside the Malls ringing that bell for donations. Do you give any change to help out? Salvation Army should be doing this the Whole year. It's probably minimum wage but they can still help out people with no job and get donations. It's like killing 2 birds in 1 stone. What do you guys think?
-
Are those people paid or are they volunteers? I usually chip in a little bit if I have change!
-
The Salvation Army has been there for many people...when other people did not want to get involved or help needy people.
-
I know someone that does that and they are volunteers.
-
I do try to give them something whenever I see them.....
-
There was a girl that worked with me that got fired for stealing and then a couple weeks later I saw her ringing the bell outside a store >:(
-
There is a guy who rings the bell for salvation army in my neighborhoods store. The kids run up and talk to him and put change in the bucket. This bothers me because he was arrested for sexual abuse.
-
i usually give change and i'm glad that the bells arent loud anymore.
-
I will give them change if i have it, but prefer to write a check if it is a large amount and give it straight to the salvation army. That way i know it is going where i want it and hopefully not in someones pocket.
-
I think your idea about the bell ringers all year long is a good idea many people use those donations to make it threw the holidays. I always try to donate when ever I can
-
me too the Salv. Army is a great thing and they have tons of programs to help children also

Where I live there is all year long Salvation Army collectors they have a blue Salvation Army uniform form and a white collection pot with red writing on them. :peace: :peace:
-
I do think that is a good idea. I imagine you can donate to them all year long, but having the bell ringers would be a good reminder. I usually try to toss my change in after each store I leave throughout the season.
-
Yes, I usually drop in whatever change I just got as I come out of the store. I know it's not a lot right then and there, but I kind of figure if I do it through the season each time I see one it may add up to a little bit and I am only one of how many that are, too. But I know they are volunteers and I always thank them for being there because I know plenty of families that have needed the assistance.
-
Bell ringers are volunteers.
Sometimes I give my kids change throw in. I don't know that they'll continue to do as well as years past with the red bucket though if everyone continues to carry no cash.
-
i enjoy giving them my change every year. they are normally at my local grocery this time of year
-
I always thought the bell ringers were volunteers...but an article in our local newspaper this morning about area businesses hiring for the holidays included Salvation Army bell ringers. I prefer to use a check to the local office of Salvation Army or whatever program I am donating to...that way I have a record of the donation for tax deduction.
-
where I live I saw one of them dancing on the corner to try to get some people to donate their dollar.

I also thought they were volunteers. Instead of these bell ringers Salvation Army can put a box for spare change outside each grocery store. That way, they can make people donate year round, instead of only during the holiday season.
-
We sometimes give the change if we see them, and we have the spare change.
We support them by buying used stuff in their stores too.
Same with Goodwill.
-
We don't have much ourselves but I still try to give a little something when and where I can.
-
I do put my change in. It would be nice it they would do it year round.
-
I drop in change when I see the Bell Ringers. Every little bit helps.
Through out the year, we donate to Salvation Army stores
-
sometimes ill give them my extra change if ive got any :dog:
-
I shop by Debit card all the time, so I don't usually have anything to give. But I do shop at the Salvation Army Thrift store. I don't think having them year round would be good b/c then people would always think they could give next later in the year and just put it off for longer than they realize. They do great work and I know in some areas they have those things that attach to cell phones so they can swipe a card for a donation but I'd be afraid they were saving my personal info to their phone somehow. Just me. They do tell you you can text a certain code (each code is local) that gives a $10 donation to them.
-
I used to give more than I do now, since I rarely use cash anymore.. but I'll give change when I have it.
-
i usually donate online or if i do have some pocket change i might occassionaly deposit some money
-
Yes its one right inside the grocey store where I live and Im with you on that one, they should have it all year around because alot of people need help these days. Blessed everyone who is helping.
-
I try to give a little something when I can.
-
I think it's good I hope enough people donate and not just walk by all the time. I gave a small donation today. It wasn't much but something.
-
In my city bell ringers are all volunteers, so all the money goes directly to the Salvation Army. They help so many people I hope that people give generously when you see them.

That is how it works where i live too. Salvation army is one of the few charities i really like. the ceo doesnt have a 6 figure salary and drive a roles royce.
i do wonder about the ringers safety in this day and age. your sort of a target standing there with a bucket of money.

i think thats good im going to try all i can to help the salvation army this year by giving the clothes money and toys and anything else im all about helping this year ;D
-
You're right, it they were out there year round there wouldn't be this last minute stress to get people to donate!
-
I'm not sure. I've heard some bad rumors about the Salvation Army. I'm gonna have to research it and decide which cause(s) deserve donations the most.
-
I may not donate money, but I donate clothes, household items, electronics through out the year.
-
I do if I have loose change and I agree with you that they should do it year round
-
i belong to the salvation army they have a budget to stay on only alloweed to hire so many so they cant do bell ringing year round and that money go's for helping people with needs food xmas ete
-
They do a fine job and they do give of their time and effort. Yes, I do give every year.
-
I have done it in the past and where I live they are just volunteers.
If I have change to spare I will give it to them, its for a good cause
And they do it around the holidays to give to families who might go without during the holidays
-
I believe the bell ringers are volunteers. I always try to chip in a little to the Salvation Army when I can.
-
I think there could be more charity drives throughout the year the cost of living is so high most people can't afford to live and they become homeless and left in the gutter, it is so wrong what this nation does.
-
They perform a great service. I usually contribute something. I once volunteered to ring the bell for a service organization. Coldest, windiest day and longest 2 hours of my life. When my replacement came, I went into K-Mart to warm up.
-
I think they're volunteer's to ring the bells. I think it's a good way to help others in need. I do try to help them when I can.
-
I am sure there are alot of people out in the cold for the winter, some people don't want to think about it or get involved because it would mess up their happiness
-
I used to give all of the time. I cant afford to right now.
-
Salvation Army is all volunteer, even the CEO does not take a penny for Salary.!! I don't understand the new thing that they are trying to Ban the Salvation Army from outside Certain Business establishments. This is one of the most Honest and Caring Organization in the Country, and they don't take a penny for their work. Salvation Army does other things throughout the year. They have a Car contribution program along with furniture donation Program. It is sought of Traditional they only have the bell ringers during the Holiday Season.!!
-
:sad1:
-
They have definitely been visible in my area of town, and I will contribute to the red can, because I believe that I am help someone no matter how small the contribution.. :icon_rr:

you or your members of families that you are helping!!! HO!HO!HO!Merry Sharing Tis Season
-
they help people so help them.
-
I would be broke if they were outside the entire year. I can never not give them a dollar when the person is ringing literally feet away from me. I always have to give a dollar and if that was all the time.... :o
-
I have a lot of respect for the Salvation Army and specifically the bell ringers. Oftentimes they work in rather harsh weather conditions. I usually donate on the way into the store because I might not have any money left on the way out.
-
If I have an extra dollar or change I will contribute.
-
If I have any cash on me, I usally give it to them! The Salvation Army is a great organization.
