I prefer a real tree but usually have an artifical tree because I can get a small one to put on a table and don't have to worry about my dogs getting the ornaments.

As a child, we always had a real tree from our own back 40.  (Lived on a farm with woods.)  Really got into the spirit of the season putting up and trimming the tree!

But since I went off to work, I've always had an artificial tree.  The first one was 5 ft tall which became a hassle to set up, trim and then take down.  It changed to a 3 ft tree on a table.  Still a hassle, so now I have a small (1.5 ft) decorated tree that's easy to handle.

I live in Oregon, so naturally I have a fresh cut live tree and it wouldn't be Christmas without it. Just the fragrance would be enough to make the decision for me.

When you cut them yourself and treat them right, there is little fire danger and my last one was an eight foot Noble Fir that cost me $15. I guess that's just one more advantage of living here.

I love the smell of real treees but due to fires we went with artificial trees. The real trees have gotten so expensive too.

Last year was our first artificial tree. The real trees cost way too much. This year we will be putting back up our artificial tree. I love the smell of a real tree.

I love a real Christmas tree. That fresh smell that smell up the whole house is a part of that Christmas feel. Although there are a lot of artificial trees that look nice, they don't have that smell or the adventure of going to the lots trying to find that perfect one.

I usually put up an artificial tree but have not for the last several years because we had gotten a puppy & 2 kittens.
I knew if we put it up it was bound to be knocked down.

They are all 3 years old now and a little bit calmer so this may be the year to start putting the tree up again.

You would still have the possibility of fires from the Christmas lights with an artificial tree.  I go with neither.

We always have a real tree. Or should I say, a natural tree? My co-worker likes to point out that even the artificial ones are real - they are visible and actually made up of something so you can see and feel them! (see what I have to put up with at work LOL!)

If you eliminated everything from your life that could cause a fire, you would need to live in a fireproof glass bubble.    :bs:

Artificial tree, because it can be used many more times than a real tree.

One of those rawhide sticks my dog chews on can be used many more times than a Filet Mignon Steak, but that doesn't mean that would be my choice.

A real tree I love how it smells and how it looks better then a fake tree. You do need to water it and be careful about the fire hazard it can gives but it is worth it.

About the only difference I notice is when it's nearly done you need to vacuum up all the needles that fell off, which takes about 10 minutes a year. Of course you need to pack away the tree for next year and I just drag mine out to the back of the yard so I can burn it next spring. I guess in my eyes it's a trade off, so I'll go for the real deal.

I am surrounded by these trees here and I know the damage done to the land and water by the chemicals used to kill weeds and pests. For that reason, I will never buy another real tree.

To me, it depends if it's indoors or outdoors. Indoors I could go either way, but I'd definitely love to have me some bonsais. However, outdoors I absolutely prefer real ones, and if they're fruit trees the better. If we're talking decorative plants, again would depend where; indoors more likely to have artificials, and outdoors the real deal.

I don't know where you live, but it's sure not that way in the Pacific Northwest. Those trees are our economy and great care is taken to keep it thriving.

I have an artificial tree.  I love the smell of the real trees, but I have several different get togethers at the beginning of December and a real tree would be to far gone be Christmas.   And it has always taken a lot longer than 10 minutes to get the pine needles up afterwards.  I spend the Thanksgiving weekend decorating, my husband sells live Christmas trees, so he brings home the trimmings off of the trees and we still get the fragrance in our home.

I prefer a real tree. A real tree looks so good in the house. But to save money we will probably be getting an artificial tree. :/

I'm hoping I find a small real tree like I did last year. It was five feet tall and I was able to decorate it in 15 minutes.  Loved it.

I would love to have a real tre, but can't have one with my allergies. Just touching it causes hives. Hat it. So have a fake one. If i even put it up this year. Will be gone part of the time. No little ones to enjoy it.

I just bought a pre-lit artifical tree. So far so good. It was a relief to do away with "stringing lights on the tree". My kids and cat destroyed my last artificial one. This year I might have to wrap barbed wire around it to prevent crazy stunts and cat climbing expeditions ! LOL !

i have never had a real tree for christmas--we have always had artifical--i have always been happy with artifical they can be beautiful if decorated right --i have always (since my kids were babies) let them decorate--they have so much fun doing it and i love watching them--this year with the pups in the house we bought a tree that hangs on the wall to keep the pups from getting in to it--it was already decorated with lights and bows and bells

I have an artificial tree.  It's what we always had when I was growing up.  I like that it is always shaped the same way every year, I don't have to remember to water it, there's no chance of bugs getting in my house with it, I only have to spend the money for it once and (hopefully) when I get it set up, my cat won't want to mess with it too much.  I haven't had a chance to put it up yet and I'm worried that she will be too curious!  :cat:

When I was a kid, my brother had always wanted a real tree.  Our parents were paranoid about fires, so we always had an artificial tree.
I prefer artificial trees my self since real trees are messier and you do have to be careful with regards to fires.

I think artifical is easier then then real you don't have to go out in the cold shopping for the perfect one.

Some years we have both.  this year we will have the artifical one.   I tie Cedar branches to the post on the front porch to get the real smell of Christmas.

Artificial is the best for me.No needles to clean up .  I have a Pom and he would be right in the middle of it. What a mess and then a sick dog. My husband is also allergic, so go Artificial. They are also cheaper and you can reuse them. Why waste a tree! I tried replanting a small blue spruce one Xmas, but it died. Several years back, I inherited a Norfolk Piine, which did great until I planted it outside. It grew for 5 years until then. I guess my advice on live trees is don't try to replant them outside in Texas.

My family has had the same artificial tree for almost 20 years now lol. it's been shedding like a real tree in recent years :P I used to want a real tree when I was younger, but I'm ok with the artificial tree now. Especially since it saves money not having to buy a new one every year.

Real tree all the way for me.  Nothing compares to the smell of the actual tree - plus I like the added humidity it provides when the heat is on.  I also enjoy trimming the tree to get it just right to hang my ornaments.  Could do without the sticky sap that seems to take several days to completely clean off, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.   ;D
