Title: Books
Post by: lbeery on January 02, 2013, 05:21:30 am
I was just wondering how many of you folks read. And read westerns or horse books.

My husband just published his book of rodeo stories called The Rodeo Road.  I was so excited to see his great stories down in primt.  They read like he is telling us the stories over a couple of beers.  He put it on amazon for sale. He put up the kindle version too.

So, I was wondering. How many of you still read books and how many have switched to e readers? or kindle books for your reading

I enjoy biographies and sports books and especially love when they are on audio. I have kindle for pc, but don't have a regular ereader. I used to read more when I was younger, but since I had less time for it I read less. However since I got some audiobooks they tend to take more of my time when it comes to books.

I also enjoy biblically related materials and Archie comics. I have over 100 Archie comics.

Good for your husband. I hope he does well. I have never read westerns though in my reading fiction.

I still prefer a good old fashioned real book over a digital one anyday.

I like to read, mostly sci-fi / fantasy however. I read both physical books as well as e-books. Before I'd use the e-book app on my smart phone to read some books, but for Xmas, my parents bought me a Nook tablet, so I may start getting a few books on that too. The one thing that I liked about reading on my phone was that I always had it with me and wasn't too bulky to carry around (unlike a regular book). So if I had to wait in line at the store etc. I could just take out my phone and read a little while waiting. I'm not sure about the new tablet, however... That is also bulky (prob'ly worse than a paperback, since those I can usually fit in some jacket pocket), so I wouldn't always be carrying it around with me. Also it needs to connect via WiFi (unlike my phone which uses a cellular connection), so it may also not work well on long road trips or out someplace that doesn't have a WiFi hotspot nearby. That's prob'ly the best thing about real books; you don't have to worry about loss of signal!  :D

I love to read and always have. I mostly read mysteries. They are my favorite. I also like reading books by Karen Kingsbury who is a Christian author. Her books are amazing. I like the actual book and not ebooks.

I think my hubby would like your hubby's book, BUT I read romances, usually contemporary, but occasionally historic!

My husband loves his Kindle and reads mostly westerns.  At the moment, he's leaning toward books about Native Americans but your husband's book sounds like something he would enjoy.  I hope he has a  lot of success with it and I'll try to find it.

I still like the good old books. I like the feel of the pages and the smell of a new book. My husband (like me) is a book collector and our house is groaning under the weight of the books. I read anything....from Egyptian pyramids to South American Folklore to romance and biographies, history, art books....you name it!

I'm not really on any special kick of online or the actual book. I love a great story and it can vary from the most happening thing at the time to just something the peaked my interest as I was going over the back of the book. I have found though (just an FYI) if the book has a series get the whole thing because there is nothing like ending a book right in the middle of something and having to wait til you get the next book in the series. I can't believe the writer would do this but yes it does happen.

I completely agree, there's nothing like the smell and feel of a new book. I love turning the pages. I read mostly mysteries and detective novels, and I really miss my two favorites, *bleep* Francis and Robert B. Parker, both gone now. I've never used a kindle or ebook and I don't think I will unless they stop making regular ones. I've heard that some newspapers are changing to a strictly online presence now so the days of traditional page turning may be limited!

They bleeped his first name, but any mystery lover will know who I mean.

I have read physical books since I was very young and I still do.  I like the feel of the book in my hands.  My preferences of types of books span a wide range.  I read cowboy books when I was young, and I wanted to be a cowboy (or cowgirl) when I grew up.  However, I don't read them much anymore.  Good luck to your husband.

Some great responses to my question.  Hope those interested would try to find Thad Beery's book.
We borrowed a kindle from our library so we could read it on Kindle to make sure it reads correctly.
I still and probably always will read paper print books.....I have a room full of them.  How else will I keep the house on its foundation.. The books holding that end of the house down ;)

I suppose at some point I will break down and get an e-reader, but for now I still read the physical book.  I read mostly history, nonfiction, biographies, some fiction.  Your husband's book sounds like something I would really like!
