Title: How long do you have to lie awake before you can go to sleep?
Post by: devilroljin on March 07, 2013, 10:43:04 am
For the most part I don't have too much trouble falling asleep. I used to be pretty good, I would just lay down for a few minutes and I was out. There are some days, however, that I have trouble falling asleep, although those days are far in between. Some times excitement or anxiety may play a role about having a hard time falling asleep, specially if you have to get up early and/or you have a big or very important event the next day.

I don't have a problem falling asleep, it usually takes me about 30 minutes. My issue is staying asleep...I wake up about 5 or 6 hours later usually around 3 or 4 in the morning and can't fall back to sleep, and when I finally go back to sleep it's time for me to get up...

Have y'all heard of a product called "ZzzQuil"?...It's a non habit forming sleep aid. I think I may try that.

Oh my gosh--for some reason, I only sleep about one or two hours at a time--I am up at weird hours of the night and fall asleep for periods in the afternoon and evening.  Once I feel I need to sleep, I am out within minutes!

Usually within less than 5 minutes I’m snoozing away. If I can’t sleep, meditating for 15 minutes or less should help me fall fast asleep.

I agree with the change of plans for the next day, the anxiety can make it difficult to drift off into lala land....I use to have a very hard time dozing off, but these days it's much better to drift off.....

Maybe about 20-30 minutes. Although I had trouble getting to sleep last night. But that was the downstairs neighbor's fault. He likes to play video games on loud speakers. Like he is again tonight.

For me it varies.  Most of the time I fall asleep okay.  However, I usually need a tv or a radio on.  It is hard for me to fall asleep with pure silence.
Several years ago I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. The biggest problem I have though is not necessarily falling asleep.  It is staying asleep continually all night.
Many times, I will fall asleep and wake up 2 -3 hours later.  Then I will fall asleep again after an hour or two and go into a real deep sleep where I wake up later than I planned.

This however, does not happen too much.  Usually I average about 4 -5 hours a night though it is not continual as a rule.

It varies for me. Usually I will read till I can't focus on the words then shut my light out. but if my husband is grumbling because of the light and makes me turn it out I'll lay there for hours sometimes trying to fall asleep.

I have found that if I want to fall asleep the answer for me is to try reading, lol I usually don't make it through 1 chapter!

It really depends. Lately I've been getting tired super early at like 7 pm so its not hard for me to fall aslee. Maybe half an hour at most. But on my really bad nights I can be tossing and turning literally for hours until I just give up.

Same here, I rarely have trouble going to sleep - would have to have something seriously troubling my mind or have significant back pain, otherwise I usually pretty much fall right to sleep.

Unless I'm particularly tired, it usually takes me a moderate amount of time to fall asleep. I'd estimate 30 to 45 minutes.

I have never had a proble with falling asleep. My problem generally lies with not having enough time to sleep.  I work, sometimes, over seventy hours a week at one job, thirty to fourty hours at another, have two kids that have driving needs and daddy-time needs and like to work out every once and a while.  This leaves me about five hours of sleep time per night and I try to sneak a ten minute nap in between jobs which is all it takes (sometimes) to revive and come back strong.  Because it has been a way of life for about four years I no longer harbor animosity or hatred for my alarm clock!  When I do have lulls that allow me to sleep longer I still wake up after only eight hours of sleep and often feel more tired than when I had had only five hours.

I used to fall asleep very fast. Now it can take longer than an hour or more at times. I hate that and especially when I need to get some rest. I heard somewhere that falling asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow can indicate that you are more fatigued overall than you need to be, but I'd rather have that than the way it is now for me. Unless I'm extremely exhausted it always takes me longer than normal it seems to get to sleep.

I usually fall almost right to sleep...if I don't it's because I'm upset about something and I usually get up and try again in a little while.  I hope everyone gets a good nights sleep!

I used to always be out as soon as my head hit the pillow, but in recent years that's undergone changes.  My anxiety level is sometimes too high and I have trouble turning my mind off so I take two drops of the Bach flower remedy White Oak.  Recently I've had a few bouts of insomnia, most uncharacteristic for me.  Most nights these days I read until I realize I'm falling asleep.

I used to be 2 or 3 hours. Now I play a DVD or a recrded TV show I have seen many times before, and I am out in 15-20 minutes. I have the Tv on a 30 minute sleep time so it shuts off automatically.

I cannot go to sleep until I am dead tired, so if I lay there, I will be there for hours.

If I am really tired I'll be out in ten minutes or so.  Sometimes I get up to go to the bathroom and then can't go back to sleep--bad news when you wake at 3:30 and get up at six.  If I'm lucky and still sleepy enough, though, I'll go right back to sleep.

I used to be able to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. But the older I get the more trouble I have getting to sleep.  Then I tend to wake up at the slightest sound. When that happens I can't get back to sleep.  I've tried all kinds of things to try and help the problem but nothing seems to work.

About two minutes.  But I often awaken in the middle of the night and lay there for an hour or two.  Very frustrating.
