Maybe you need to think outside the box.

Me too so I feel. your pain. Things have changed a lot since the last time I was in the job market. Having to apply for everything online is frustrating since I think it's hard to show myself off.

Make your own job. Be a helper for the elderly or handicapped. Do yard work for your neighbors. Walk dogs, dog sit, house sit, babysit, be a mother's helper. Tutor students. Register at a temp agency. Craiglist has tons of jobs people hire for. Don't sit around and wait for someone to hand you a job go make your own.

I know the feeling. I gave up on working for others. I'm working on employing myself now. Look into Fiverr. Some people are making a living there. I've got several gigs and am a level 2 seller. It's easy, fun and can put some bucks into your wallet. If you keep searching for something conventional it can be done on the side.
There's also Elance and Clickworker.

Fortunately or unfortunately, whichever way you look at it, to make money right now requires a bit of out-of-the-box, entrepreneurial thinking. There are a ton of good ideas here like eLance, Fiverr, etc.
Another one that's a bit of a gamble as far as actually making money, but pays off in skills and connections, is VolunteerMatch. Nonprofits post a lot of volunteer help wanted opportunities that can be done from home. I like to usually donate five hours a week anyway to some type of volunteer work, so that's why I went there in the first place.
I've made a ton of great connections there with the board members of the nonprofits I've volunteered for over the years and every now and then when one or another has a temporary contract paying type position, a few of them have contracted me to do it.
It's not definite money, but it is definite in that it gives you connections for networking, keeps you busy and on a routine, and helps an organization that helps others.

Don't give up; you are not alone. It is frustrating journey. I searched for almost four months and was almost ready to give up when a couple places finally called me for interviews and I got hired at one of the places. My sister searched for over a year before something came along for her and she has a great paying job right now. So keep looking and good luck!

Do you have any temp agencies in your area? Usually they have some type of work for everyone. The pay isn't that great, a lot of times, but since you're only looking for part time work anyway, that shouldn't be an objection.
