Title: Suspicious Activity
Post by: jwallbank on September 14, 2013, 11:02:51 am
I received an email this morning that was very suspicious!! It said that I had suspicious activity on my account and that FC required some information via Fax. I did not send it yet and it seemed awful strange that it is on a Saturday where I don't think there are any Technical people in to answer my Tech Support ticket. I did send a support ticket and will wait for the answer prior to sending this information. I was just wondering, I have been with FC for over 3 years and never saw any request for information like this!! I was just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this and may have an answer??

sounds strange. I got something like that from paypal once but I did not open it. I called and they told me to send it to them.

I've gotten emails like that from paypal....never, ever follow through.  I've never seen anything like that from FC.

Such emails are probably phishing expeditions and you did right to  not respond to email; you did the right thing to send in a ticket to support.

When ever I get an email asking for information or telling me I have a problem on my account, I send it on to the legal/support area of the organization that "sent" it to me.

Their normal response is that they NEVER send emails asking for information and that the email is a phishing email.  (Someone out there is trying to get info from you to access your account for themselves.)

The first thing is usually to look at the actual email address that sent it to you. If it's not from support@fusioncash.net I wouldn't give it a second thought

I get emails from supposed companies all the time asking for email but it's from random yahoo and google email addresses so it's obviously not the real company

wow I have never heard of anything like that.....thanks for the heads up everyone....I would not want to be victim of something like that.  I have been with FC for over a year now and have never encountered anything like that.  Thank you

You've been very lucky!  But it will happen eventually.

It's sort of scary when you get an email that looks like it came from your credit card company or your bank or PAYPAL or Windows Security.  Some of them will look very real with logos and page headers that probably were copied from the real thing.

When it happens, take a deep breath and tell yourself that this is not for real -- then contact the real company and send the email on to them to deal with it.

I've seen a few posts on the forum about people having to fax their license to FC to verify their account.

not a doubt that this is a bogus email you received. very common and as others have said, the best thing to do is to forward it to the real firm that the email claims to represent. NEVER respond to any of these, best not to even open it. AND NEVER NEVER EVER open any attachment of .ex file they send you, you will infect your system to who know what degree and everything on your system will be compromised (stolen) or worse. ;D

I don't see any Telephone number that I can verify things like this. Is there a telephone number for FC that this can be verified??I really don't doubt that FC is really asking for this - it just seems to be awful strange since I have never seen it before!!There is just alot of scams out there and I had something happen to me in the past that was actually sent from someone that was internal to a company that I was dealing with that was attempting to scam account holders.

I hope your response was due to the support ticket that jwalbank sent you as well as this thread.  Given the security risk that emails asking for info involve, may I suggest that FC modify its procedures so they don't ask for information in an email unless the need for that information has been generated by a support ticket.

That would mean that when FC needs information they would need to send an email to the member asking them to contact them via a support ticket with a reference number so the issue could be easily tied back to your request.  An explanation about "why" won't hurt and might speed up the member's response without causing heart palpitations.

Granted this would take more time, but it would ensure that the communication is legitimate on both sides.

This response was because of my Ticket!! I thank you for your suggestion because I have been burned in the past, I will not mention any companies but, back during the dial up day, someone within the ISP company had stole my Profile information and was using it in a state that was 3,000 miles from my location. The only way I found this out was that I could never get into my account. I know this is a different situation but, I am still very sensitive to something that does not sound right, and this in my opinion did not sound right.

Nowadays it's better to be suspicious first about emails like that. I learned the hard way not long after I turned 18 and thought I was getting a pre-paid Visa card with funds from my bank account. They wiped it clean and the bank closed the account when I couldn't bring the balance to $0. Looking back on it now I feel like an idiot for falling for the scam, but I could have lost a lot more than $200 and could have been brought to court by the bank so it could have been worse.

Thank you FC for the quick response and resolution.! I see that my Cash out for this month is back in "Pending" status. I would like to say "Thank you" to all that responded and helped me with this Thread. We really have some good people on this site.!!

Good luck, I'm glad to hear it was a legitimate email and not someone looking for info. There are enough fake ones out there to suspect they are all fake.

I've had emails like that from my Paypal or my bank but I always call them or check the official website because a lot of the time you'll get a message on the website it's self when you log in.  :confused1:

yep, that does not sound right.  I would not follow through w/their request.  I got my Facebook hacked once and had to reset my password.  I suggest a good anti-virus like a Norton or something.  I use Norton and have not had any problems since.  It can be an unsafe world on the web sometimes.   :sad1:

I would think that any email from FC like that would be a bit more detailed and explain what it is that is going on.  I think you are doing the right thing as I would be very suspicious as well.

I would not have responded nor given the information. I usually send every email I receive requesting information to my trash bin and never open them. I have been taken far too many times. Today scams show up everywhere you turn and it is sad. Sorry this you has given you such a headache.

You were fortunate to get past your problem.  You learned a valuable lesson as a result of it; always check your sources.  I received one of those e-mails from PayPal threatening to close my account, and I called them.  I was told by PayPal that, once you have an account with them, it never closes.  I also sent them a copy of the e-mail I received. :o :o :o

I generally do not open/respond to those types of email; you are right in that it does sound suspicious and glad you were able to catch.
