How many of you actually LOL? Or is this term thrown about way too loosely? ....lol.... Your thoughts?
-
Depending on what time of the morning or evening it is I may not actually laugh out loud....it's more like chuckling to myself. But I don't put "LOL" unless I do think that something is funny or has made me laugh. If not then I will usually put a smilie instead. That said I do think that it is probably used way more than people are actually laughing and probably just indicates something that they find humorous even if it's only in a sarcastic way.
-
I often laugh out loud. Not just chuckling. A great stress releaser. :)
-
I am a silent laugher. Strange thing. My husband however... laughs out load constantly. He could be in an empty room and just laugh... at what? I dunno.
-
more often than not, i'm not really laughing when i type out "lol". sometimes i am though. i am someone who uses it pretty loosely lol. <- no actual laughing then :P haha
-
 I guess I use it too loosely when I think something is funny. When I think something is really funny I lmao. :)
-
I actually laugh often when I type lol when talking to someone else online. I do tend to use it more loosely in posts and emails when im not actually laughing but more laughing silently. :)
-
I LOL all the time....lol <---see
I think everything is funny lol
-
 I see HUNDREDS of people laugh out loud everyday... I wonder why ???
-
 I guess I use it too loosely when I think something is funny. When I think something is really funny I lmao. :)
i'm pretty much the same as this.
I LOL all the time....lol <---see
I think everything is funny lol
aaand this ;p
-
I tend to do more of what TheWineKone(look him up on YouTube. He's great.) refers to as "TOL", or "Thinking of Laughing". It's like laughing out loud, only you're thinking about doing instead of actually doing it.
-
I do lol some times.. but not all the times I post it. :bootyshake:
-
IF it's funny enough, sure, a LOL is fun.
-
I use lol just to mean I thought something was humorous, however I am not the type of person to laugh at a computer screen or a cell phone. Every once in a while I will laugh out loud but usually I laugh inside. Means the same to me.
-
LOL
-
I would definitely laugh out loud!
-
Who LOL's when you can ROFL?
It's just so much more fun!
-
LOL
DITTO!! LOL
-
I don't Abbreviate or Condense My language...because I Enjoy using my Vocabulary to it's fullest.
-
99% of the time when I say lol im not actually laughing...lol
-
I don't Abbreviate or Condense My language...because I Enjoy using my Vocabulary to it's fullest.
That's refreshing to hear! Somebody said "TTFN" to me in person the other day, I had no idea what they are talking about. I think that people should enhance their vocabulary by learning new words, instead of making up new ones.
-
if i chickle i say lol but if i actually laugh i say lmao!!
-
Same Here.
-
I say lol all the time. It gets kind of ridiculous after a while.
-
I think that it is over used. Even though we all have different senses of humor, many times when someone posts LOL, it is not that funny at all. The topic of this post made me laugh though, it was a good question and a funny one!
-
I do indeed, "lol", but probably not as often as I type it. :)
-
I do it daily and it is a very good way to forget all the bad things that may come! :cat:
-
lol means laughing out loud.
-
Who LOL's when you can ROFL?
It's just so much more fun!
;D :thumbsup:Ha so true!
-
lol and i actually am...know that you mention it half the time when i put lol im not even "laughing out loud" jaja good one :bootyshake:
-
I may LOL but I don't have enough room around me to ROTF!
Dave D
-
Who doesnt LAUGH OUT LOUD from time to time? Haha.
-
I do it just about every day. I really do it and if I am online and talking to someone I will put it in. LOL. If not Rofl.
-
I will only use it if i really did laugh out loud or chuckle. If I just grin or smile then I just put a smile instead.
-
I usually specify if I actually lol.
Example: That made me lol.
Example: Ha! I totally lol'd.
:D
-
I rarely ever laugh out loud but simply put it when something is funny
-
I put LOL IRL if it is really funny.... somtimes LOL is just an awkward conversation filler :P
-
I snicker at least
-
If I "lol", it's usually more of an "sol" (snort out loud). But, most of the time, I just "hahaha" ;D
-
I LOL all the time. I have to. When say someone remotely funny I LOL so it makes them feel better.
-
I use LOL in tons of txts, blogs, even this forum, but it's really all a lie. I hardly ever Lol in real life. It's just this sad inaudible giggle. Almost no one ever hears it... :dontknow:
-
;D That's cute! I think the term is thrown around too loosely. I rarely laugh out loud when I post LOL in response to what someone wrote.
-
when I type LOL (except for now of course), I actually am laughing out loud.
-
I laugh a lot, so usually when I lol, I really am. If I don't actually laugh, I use a :) , and if I'm laughing hard enough to be ready for tears, it's definitely a lmao!
-
I almost always LOL, but sometimes I've replied with "LOL" and I'll get back " It wasn't supposed to be funny "
oops! So, I try to restrain the LOL and just keep it to myself.
-
I only lol in person, it doesn't seem right to say you are on a computer when they can't see it anyway.
-
I usually do the LOL when I am not sure how to respond, or the response just requires an acknowledgement..if I find it funny I do the HAHAHA..thing..;P
-
My two favorites are LOL and ROFL
-
I barely do LOL . I just 'hahaha' instead.
-
Sadly, if I type lol I am laughing out loud. Since I type it a lot, I obviously laugh out loud a lot.
-
I LOL MORE OFTEN THEN NOT. GREAT QUESTION!
-
WHEN I READ LOL I DO LAUGH OUT LOUD. ESPECAILLY WHEN YOUR WRITING TO SOMEONE THAT KNOWS YOUR INSIDE JOKE IS WHEN I USE "LOL"! :D
-
Here's how it works:
lol or haha: Chuckle inside my head
LOL (capitalized): Chuckle out loud
rofl or lmao: literally laughing out loud
ROFL or LMAO (capitalized): Cracking up
lol.
-
Lmfao, One time a friend and i were talking on the phone, and he said something really funny and i actually said " LOL" instead of laughing.. how sad is that haha
-
I like LOL-ing. I also like using emoticons for expressions too!
-
I'd rather just type out "Hahaha."
-
I don't actually lol but I use it a lot. I think it's just a natural thing to do now.
-
I may LOL but I don't have enough room around me to ROTF!
Dave D
I really did LOL on that post. I'm the same, I don't have room either.
-
I probably overuse it a bit too, but I do laugh often. If it's really funny, I'll use rofl/lmao :D
-
This is SO FUNNY!! I always type LOL when I'm just smiling about something or whatever. This time I'm actually LOLing because I really think about it when I'm typing it!! I feel like I'm lying to the person or something!!
-
I think people use LOL when they thing something is funny and LMAO when they really did LOL.
-
i think that i type it more then actually express it. but it is too over used
-
i don't think i have ever used that acronym. it annoys me when i go onto facebook and someone has posted a comment that uses "lol" mulitple times. if i think something is funny, i'll say "that's funny" or 'hahaha", or ;D personally, i think the abbreviations that people use when texting and typing has gotten so out of hand.
-
This is all shorthand just think if you had to type it all out and if not then NO ONE would know what you were trying to type! lot of cell phone bills would have been less expensive in the past and less people would use a cell phone to text now!!!
-
OMG! I M lol'ing @ ur QT txts! I MN8 <3 @ x's & o's! O, n I c txt's w/ lol, rofl, rotf, lmao, n haha (but usually I'm not really doing those...)
l8r!
--^--@
(PS the worst is when people actually say those acronyms out loud. I think "OMG" has become the new "like". Like OMG it's like LOL to like say your QT acro's out loud.)
-
i use lol only when texting its just faster than all the other stuff like hahaha and that's funny
-
Sometimes I actually do lol, rotfl, or lmbo. As far as it being used to loosely it doesnt really matter to me because its not that deep, nor do I care that much. So... yea...
-
I say lol when I need to respond back but don't know what to say! LOL!
-
Sometimes i just say lol instead of laughing saves energy
-
I use this CONSTANTLY, even if I'm not laughing. I unintentionally just write it, its like a habit now.
-
whenever I get on youtube and watch blooper videos, it doesn't matter what time of day it is. This morning, around 0600> I LOL'd my booty off!!!!! Its a great way to get cheered up quick
-
I love to laugh outloud. (I just ordered the Carol Burnett video and I am laughing every time I watch Carol and Tim Conway!)
Using the acronym LOL or lol to me is just the quickest way to let someone know I think what they said or texted was funny. Beat writing "you just made me laugh!"
-
Carol Burnett and Tim Conway are Soooooo Funny!!!! Enjoy--good times!!!!!!
-
if it's funny I really do LOL!! ;D
-
5- LOL means that what ever I read I was cracking up and it doesnt matter where I am because it happens to be that funny. lol means it just tickled me and I smiled. I don't LOL or lol everything because sometimes I need to reply to have the other person LOL LOL ;D. Please don't use it when there is a blank expression on your face cause it just went over your head.
-
yeah, when im chatting with my friend, i just say lol even though im not actually LOLing.
-
I can just be sitting here and my fiancee is in the other room and all off a sudden he will just start laughing at nothing. I can't count the number of times that I have done it.
-
Not me unless it is really good, otherwise I think it is meant as more of a thought.
-
this topic makes me lol pretty hard
-
I just lol when I'm txting / IMing or generally find something amusing like this topic ;D
-
I've always wondered the same thing. I sometimes DO LOL but a lot o times I'm LOTI (laughing on the inside)>
-
my husband is pretty hilarious sometimes so i do laugh out loud pretty often. but i don't type "lol" in a text, etc. if i'm typing a message/status people know i'm being funny by the emoticon i use. if not, i say "that's funny" or "ha ha"
-
Personally I use the term lol quite often but I rarely ever laugh out loud. I use the term for more of a humph sound when something is funny rather than an actual laugh.
-
Not as often as I used the abbreviation... ;D
-
I think its thrown around A LOT. Because sometimes when I'm having a text message conversation, people will say LOL every other message. Maybe a tiny laugh, but nothing crazy! :P
-
I think it's thrown around too loosely for sure. If something just makes me smile I replace it with one of these: :)
-
i stopped lol and started rotf
-
i sometimes put LOL when not sure what to say :dontknow:
-
I do, and it drives my wife crazy!
-
I did find this topic pretty funny LOL I am one of those people who really laugh alot.
-
I LOL all the time. http://:D :D :D I do it more than I write it though. Laughter is therapy for the soul.
-
If I am by myself, it is not too often. But, I have laughed out loud at something I think is funny on television.
-
Most of the time when I use LOL I am laughing. Somtimes I use it cuz somthing is funny but I didn't laugh....
-
LOL all the time for me. Laughter is good medicine for the soul.
-
chuckle but i dont actually laugh out loud
-
It is really hard to tell as we are all different and the things that I find funny to create the LOL or the lol may not be found funny by others. If the LOL is all in caps that means you are really Laughing hard. If the lol is in lower case just a small laugh or a chuckle. I don't however think it is over used.
-
i use it just becasue. It might not even be funny but i still write lol
-
I LOL all the time, but I laugh really easy. I actually laughed at this topic, it was so random and funny, and something you just don't expect. I like it. LOL ;D
-
I LOL.
"Laughter is good medicine"
And I like comedy.
-
i do lol, but sometimes i don't want ppl to hear or see me when i'm texting or im
-
When I type lol I try to make sure I'm actually lol. Most of the time stuff just makes me grin so I type one of these. :)
-
i think just about everyone lols
-
I do especially if its funny
-
i use LOL when I feel something is funny
-
its tossed around more then "i love you" i say it even when im not LOLing..but i do LOL alot. =)
-
I occasionally am actually lol'ing when I write it but usually not
-
I do all of the time! My wife still has a problem with it. She wants to know what I was thinking. I call it spontaneous laughter. My college students know I do this and they think it is great. (At least that is what they tell me) LOL
-
I am an easy going person and find a lot of things funny, but I would have to say that I use LOL more often then I should. I am sure others are the same way too.
-
This is too funny. Lol, sike naw I think we do use this term way too loosely I know everytime I write it I am never actually laughing out loud but just acknowledging that something was funny.
-
If i say lol i actually do it lol I laugh alot
-
I do all the time!
-
I think it is used a little too loosely but I do tend to use only when something make me chuckle or, depending who I"m talking to, it's an inside joke or something....can't be too harmful I don't think, unless it's something touchy and someone takes offense too it, which you have to be careful of when texting, b/c there's not body language/sound to compare to the words being written.
-
LOL stress medicine
