Title: Video games vs board games
Post by: smithjcsdfw on December 09, 2013, 06:39:40 pm
Which would you rather do?  Play a video game by yourself or a board game with a group of people?  Me I am all in favor of the board games with family and friends.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of playing board games with my family.  I love group games but it seems like people no longer have time to get together like they used to do so years ago.  I play a computer game occasionally when by myself at home and enjoy it but there is a missing dimension of connecting with friends/family.  I have never done a group computer game online with other people but it does sound fun and could add a little of the camaraderie that is present when getting together for a board game.

When I'm by myself, I like video games better, but usually when with a group of friends / family I'd rather play a board game (or rather a tabletop game, since some of the games now don't necessarily have boards). The only time I like video games with a group is if there is a way to setup a LAN (local area network) that connects our computers together, but is not on the public internet. Unfortunately most games that offer group play do so on their web-site in a MMO (massive multi-player online) fashion. And what I've found with those MMO games is that you get too many munchkins (using the old RPG jargon) that just try to better their characters at the cost of hurting others in the group (assuming a co-op type of group play).

It's more fun to play board games in a group, however, it's almost as fun to play a video game that you can really get into.

I prefer playing board games but unfortunately many don't get out of work until after 5 pm and weekends they are doing something else. once in a while I can get them to come over or we would go over there but many of my older friends we play games on the computer because many of them don't live close by or don't get free time until after
7 pm  but we compete like scrabble games my favorite. but when they are not on the computer I have many games that I play myself but only because there is no one to join me. I am a game person any game and I am there.

I enjoy both, but as far as board games, those usually require a certain mood/mental effort... and a person to play with, obviously.

I prefer playing board games with my family.

We have such a good time doing them.  Pictionary, Scrabble, Balderdash, even card games are winners!!

Board games,,,,   i'm not a video person.    Give me a board game any day.  I think you can get into a board game with people and interact with them.  video game you just sit and move your hands.  you don't even have to talk to any one lol

I prefer board games, video games make my fingers hurt. board games are more social were you can interact with your love ones. you can teach younger family members how to spell with games like scrabble or strategy, with games like chess and checkers. :)

I would rather play a video game. With board games you need to play with someone and sometimes I'd rather play by myself (and I can pause the game whenever I feel like it). But I love playing Pac Man (an all time favorite).

I miss playing board games. When I was younger, my family set one night a week aside just for that. Now my kids are all grown and have lives of their own I don't get to play much anymore. It seems as though after you get done with everything that you have to cram into a day now there just doesn't seem to be any time left for anything else. The work hours seem to be longer, housework seems to be a never ending chore and then there is little time left for much of anything else. I really miss the days when a person had a little extra time for the more enjoyable things in life. Maybe it is because I am older and I move slower now. LOL!!!

I prefer video games XD

Board games are fun once in a while, but hardly anyone in my family enjoys playing them any more because they've been played so many times already.

I haven't played a true board game for long time, so I would say video games. Of course, I do miss the intimacy that board games could bring. Maybe I'm just making a comparison of doing this with family when I was younger.

For me it's video games!!!  board  games are fun, they take way to long to set up and then also to play...if you get tired of playing a video game u can just save it

Board games...because they are less stressful, but I like video games too because they're more fun.
