Title: Do you trust your doctor?
Post by: workin4alivin on February 14, 2014, 08:10:54 am
To give you the most up to day information or do you take what he/she says and then investigate the issue?  I'm a research type of person.  I know for a fact, in my world anyway, that doc's aren't always 100% correct.

How about you ... ?

No! They are just humans with the own opinions. Do your own research and select what really works for you.

No, I don't trust my doctor 100%.  She is very good, but I also believe in taking an active part in my own health.  I am also definitely a research person.

No, I'm not 100% believe in them too. I put a site some of the advices  which I knew that I think I didn't need that expensive prescription.

I don't trust them 100%.

When my dad was hospitalized, it seemed that they were diagnosing him one after the other. He ended up staying in the hospital for two weeks and they didn't do anything about what they diagnosed him with. He had Abdominal Aortic Aneurism. When he came in, it was already in bad condition. They didn't do anything to him for two weeks he was there except give him more ultra sounds and such to diagnose him.

Then they released him and then a week later, he was scheduled to meet up with his doctor so they can fix the AAA. So he goes back and guess what? Nothing! The schedule turned out to be just a consultation. So they gave him that consulation. After that, we just kept waiting and waiting and waiting for his surgery. We were getting impatient cause he could die from that when the vessels pops. (The hospital we took him to here was a private hospital connected to Sharp Hospital)

And so, he started complaining about a backache. So instead of taking him to the doctor we went to before, we took him to a different doctor. Right there and there, the doctor said he needed surgery before his Aneurism popped. (We took him to a Naval Hospital this time). We should have taken him there from the start.

I know a guy who kept going to the doctor complaining of a head ache.  The doctors wouldn't do anything but give him hydros.  This went on for almost a year.  I do not know if he eventually went to a different doctor or if they just decided to do something.  They done a scan and found out he had  tumor in his brain.  It was cancer.  He died shortly thereafter.  If they had done something to start with other than pump him full of pain pills he would have had a decent chance at survival.  ;(

I don't have 100% confidence in my drs. I'm a research kind of gal, so I take a very active part in my health care. My drs know I won't take any bs about my health. I expect to be a part of the conversation and diagnosis. I discuss things with my dr and question and challenge him constantly. He always tells me I missed my calling...I should be a dr for my knowledge, and a lawyer for my challenge. LOL

I guess I'm a research person too. I take the doctor's advice but I also take other information I have into consideration. Doctors are not omnipotent.

I do trust our family doctor. When I noticed something on my shoulder a couple years ago he sent me immediately to a dermatologist who did a graft then sent me to one of the best oncologist in the area to get rid of the skin cancer.

Usually I trust my doctor, but I have been known to request a second opinion.  I always do some research of my own, as well.

First off doctors are only human not a PC (even a calculator can be rarely worng) not everything can be right so yes you can trust a doctor but get a second or more opinion & do research (though researching can be long if you don't know what ot look for) :cat:

No.  I have medical problems that my doctor has no clue about.  I have told him things.  Of course he doesn't want to believe I know more than he does.

Countrygirl - yep I know isn't it the truth!  As if they know your body better than you do.  I had such pain (all over) for many years, doctor after doctor ... nada ... then finally found out had fibromyalgia.  So, just keep looking somewhere out there, you'll find some doctor to believe you!

I had a really great doctor up until about a year ago and she moved back to her home state. I really miss her. The doctor I have have now is ok but she is not my favorite. Of course I have special doctors for my COPD and PAD. It seems like I have an appointment every week with one of them

Yes and no. Certain things I may trust them for like quick decisions in times of real emergencies.  But on non-emergency matters I have to do my own research with what recommendations them may make.

I trust them enough most of the time to respect their opinion, but never enough that I'll 100% believe whatever they say and leave it at that.  I think they're there for guidance a lot of the times, and I also don't think anyone should expect his/her doctor to be all-knowing and infallible.

I completely trust my doctor. Why not? I mean a doctor spends 10+ years of education after high school and have the experience so yes I do trust doctors in general.

I have had a pretty decent size swollen gland (about the size of an quarter) on my neck for years that has always worried me. My doctor acts like it is no big deal. They did a few blood tests to see if maybe it could be a thyroid problem but it came back negative. My doctor has suggested nothing sense. Acts like its normal when I bring it up. That is just one of the reasons that I really do not know if I trust my doc or not.

I do research and take my doctor's advice into account. But I feel that if you do not trust what your doctor tells you, you need to find a new doctor.

The older I get the less I trust any Dr.  When I was younger I nodded my head and hung onto every word they had to say.  I must of appeared to be some young cadet to them.  Now nearing 40 I feel as though I know my body better than any Dr. would.  Now don't get me wrong if I needed specialized treatment I would take what Doc had to say into account - compare it to other opinions and make a decision what is right for me.

no because i remember telling my doctor that there was always mucus in my throat and i couldn't breathe sometimes and instead of investigating he just said " buy allegra"

also because my sister had breathing issues for years and the doctors told her she was fine until she switched to a different doctor who told her she has asthma.

I feel that traditional medical doctors are never 100% correct.  I don't trust them at all.  I am currently looking for a good natural physician.

I only trust my Doctor as far as I can see him. As long as they act professional I do not have a problem trusting my Dr.
