Title: Important Security Announcement - "Heartbleed"
Post by: Administrator on April 09, 2014, 02:35:12 pm
Hi all,

A vulnerability in openSSL, software which is used on about 2/3rds of the world's websites (and FC), was discovered recently.  It's a whammy.  We are now patched against this vulnerability, as you can see on this page: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/#www.fusioncash.net

You're recommended to change ALL of your passwords, on FC and elsewhere, due to the widespread nature of this vulnerability, the long length of time it before it went public, and the fact that there is no way to detect if it's been used.  If you have more than a few accounts at different websites, then odds are you're potentially affected by this.

For a technical explanation, please see www.heartbleed.com

Finally, for those of you who were affected, our apologies for the brief downtime just now (around 15 mins).  You may have also noticed that you had to log-in again after the downtime -- removing all existing sessions is part of the patching procedure.

If you have any questions, please leave a reply or open a support ticket.

Thanks for the information about this. Looks like I will be changing my password on here and elsewhere as well. I usually try to change my passwords every 2 to 3 months, anyways.

In case anyone isn't sure how to change their password, go to your Accounts page and on the left hand side it is the second option under "Profile & Settings"

Admin, could this be the reason why some of these survey sites are hanging?  I'm having a helluva time since yesterday getting a couple of the Daily surveys to work for me.  I get to a certain point and then the pages are just hanging and never go forward.  I've sent messages to those sites, but you know how that goes.

It might be related, but I couldn't say for sure.  Keep trying, and if you notice any patterns or extended downtime, please let us know in a support ticket and we'll look into it.

Thanks for the information because some hackers have been blocking emails to the point they cannot login into their email accounts. For example: Google, Yahoo and other servers.

I will get to changing them. I actually changed my passwords just before I heard about the heart bleed. So I really should get to work making new ones.
