why can't telemarketers take no for an answer and they just keep calling i put my number on the do not call list so it slows them down but they are so annoying do you agree

Yeah, I think we get more calls from telemarketers than we do normal calls. Thank God for the "Block List," LOL.

They are like bill collectors they are very aggravating

We don't have a land line phone, and with my cell I don't answer for numbers I don't recognize. So basically if you're not in my contacts list, you're out of luck. lol :P :) :thumbsup:

yes :( I have some company called Bank Card Services that wants you to lower your interest rate, its an automated call, and if you press a number to talk to them, they either swear at you, or hangup and block you from calling them
I get 1-2 a day from these people, all different numbers, do not call does not stop them

Yes, I do. I had to change my number because I gave my number to my cousin and the court system called me, first on my house phone and then on my cellphone looking for a woman with a different name. Even after telling them I didn't know this person, they still called my cellphone. I had a phone call from a church member who told me someone was registering their child into the Head Start program and gave my number as hers. I have since disconnected my home phone and still get a lot of calls from people I have no clue about. The Health Department called me last week about a child's appointment, but I don't know who owned my cellphone before I did. While I understand that people don't change their numbers, it is a bit annoying, to tell you the truth. ??? ??? ??? :( :rainbow: :rose:

The only time I answer my phone is when I know who's calling AND I am ready and feel like talking. I get a few calls a day, usually, from telemarketers and I ignore them. Then I delete the number. My poor husband gets numerous calls every day from those pesky callers. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the luxury like I do to ignore those calls all the time since his is a business phone. I really do wish there was a true way to stop those annoying calls.

i get a few..not many thoough..go to donotcall.gov and register your phone..can register up to 3 phones per email.

I get me, but I just ignore them If someone is not on my contact list or I know someone will be calling back on something I have talked to them about , it is sorry Charlie.

I actually wish there was a completely full proof way to have them stopped and charged for making calls to people who do not want them. I thought I included my home number on the list, but this apparently doesn't stop a good portion of calls - including charities galore among other things.

Don't get these anymore, but I used to. I found a good way to deal with them is to tell them the person they asked for is in another room and I will go get them... so I put the receiver down and go about my business, eventually they hang up and after this happens a few times they stop calling... if you have time and want to have so fun, start complaining about some imagined illness you have or a made up family problem, just keep talking about it no matter what they say, eventually they will hang up on you! :)

The do not call list is almost worthless because they call anyway. It's telemarketers or charities. The charities are not satisfied with you sending what you can afford. If you can't commit to a large amount they hang up.

I am on the DO NOT CALL list. From what I have heard others say there is a specific way you have to word it when you tell them not to call you again to get them to take your number of their list. Which is totally unfair. I got this from someone who was a telemarketer. It is a way they get around the rules. The person calling you may not be the same one that called you yesterday. And that is how they make money. They make a commission off the sales they make. So they call whomever they can to try to get them to buy the product. You are correct it is annoying as heck. I usually do not answer the phone if I do not know the number or who it is.

Well the has an advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage as long as it is a land line and not a cell phone eating up your minutes is that it wastes their time. That is a good thing. The bad thing is like with the ones who call claiming to be with ATT is that if they can keep you on the phone long enough they can switch your service without you okaying it or your knowledge. That happened to us. When we called ATT that is what they told us. They said hang up as soon as you know what it is. And the real ATT is not going to call and ask you to confirm the services you already have with them because they already know what you have with them.
I had someone call the other day and wanted to confirm my address. Uh, okay. But no. I just hung up on them.

I use to get lot it slow down a bit and i get several call i also tell them put me do-not call list and sometime they still call it can be someone did put you on do-not call list.

I rarely do anymore. On the odd times we do and my dad answers, he gives them the riot act.

I agree they are annoying. I also use to get a lot of calls from telemarketers I got tired of it also and put them on my block list. Now it is pretty peaceful.

Not the same thing at all. A bill collector has a right to call you. You owe that company money. A telemarketer you have never done business with. They are just trying to see you something.

Not sure about telemarketers, but this lawyer firm keeps calling my cell because the last guy that had it owes them some money. Gets annoying fast.

I don't have that problem anymore. There have been times in my life when I would check caller id before picking up the phone. Now it's so simpler. I don't even have a land line.

I totally agree. With caller ID, we often don't answer the call unless it's someone we know. Especially during the dinner hour!

I usually don't pick up phone calls, unless I know the person calling or I am expecting a call... If it's important they can leave a voice mail
My dad usually have phone calls about useless stuff... I usually block the number calling him

Usually I get unknown caller so I just decline the call.yes, it's annoying but since t have an iPhone it's not as bad. My parents home phone the answering machine is always load w/junk messages! ::)

We don't have that problem anymore since we got rid of our landline many years ago. Occasionally I'll get a call on my cellphone from where I had entered a contest.

I usually tend to my bills on time but there are some that are just annoying. A few times I have answered the phone saying, "McDonald's may I take your order please?"
Then they'd say, "wrong number" or hangup or remove me from their calling list.
(Does McDonald's even have a delivery service? Lol)

I don't answer the phone unless its a number I recognize. On the rare of occasion that I do answer, if there is a pause before the other party responds, I know its a telemarketer and hang up immediately. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool me.

I check the number before I answer...but my children will answer, and when it's a local number they fool me....I will say I'm not interested and they want take no for an answer I try to give them the pleasure of saying bye...but they keep on trying to sell, so I just hang up......

Yes I agree. I have an unlisted land line that still gets telemarketers but luckily I have Caller ID on the phone and can refuse to answer a lot of these calls. I think they find the phone number by randomly phoning numbers until they get someone or a machine which tells them they have a real number. But what a pain in the butt they are!

:) It is not only telemarketers but now insinuations of legal problems. However, my favorite is the company trying to get hold of me for my million dollar prize. Hey!, I am in the phonebook. :)

I usually look at the number if it someone I don't recognized then I don't answer at all. Or sometimes I answered and I just said," sorry I am not interested" then hang up. Don't wait for a response.

My land line is set up so my phone calls go directly to my answering machine. I no longer deal with telemarketers or solicitation calls because they don't usually leave a message. If they do leave a message, it's easy enough to delete.

I get those. I'm on the DNC list too. My phone has the ability to block calls from anonymous callers and 30 other numbers so i just block them. Now I get a lot fewer calls. They seem to check back after some time to see if they're still blocked, as if I was going to answer them. LOL. ::) :silly: It's so much more peaceful since I stopped putting energy into the situation. ;):peace:

Caller ID was the best money I EVER spent. If I don't know who is calling, I don't answer. If they leave a message and I want to talk to them, I'll call back. If not. . . . .

You don't have to talk to them. Either hang up on them, do not answer the phone to start with, or do something to annoy the snot out of them when they call you. I use to set off a 110 db alarm right into the receiver of the phone every time they called. This was before the do not call list. I do not have a land line now but after I put my number on there every time someone called I reported the call. If you have to do it every day then do so. I also report the ones that come in to my cell. Esp the pre-recorded ones. I do not answer if I do not know the caller but most times it is pre-recorded and about a vacation I have won. I know this because I have a voice mail from the pre-recorded call. This is big time illegal. But the problem is most of the calls are coming from over seas and the US has NO jurisdiction to punish someone in another country. Again, this does not seem right because they are breaking the law in OUR country. But then again, the illegals and people from other countries have more rights than we do. So my suggestion would be to exercise your right to not answer the phone. Just let it ring or if it is a cell phone silence the call.

I did get a different call one day. An Asian guy saying he was calling from the IRS saying I owed them money. I had one hour to pay them. I was to agree to pay or else a local police officer would come pick me up in 20 minutes. LOL SCAM ! ! ! :bad: :-X

Like a lot of others on here I don't have a land line either. I don't answer my cell either if it is not in my contact list unless I have just called a new doctor or something like that and don't have the number in my contact list. Now I will answer one of the three area codes used in our area if my daughter is out on a school function or something like that cause it could be one of the teachers or parents calling to tell us they are running late. She doesn't have her own phone yet nor do we plan on getting one for her anytime soon so...

Yes they are annoying but anytime you do surveys or fill out forms for points you should be ready for the phone to start ringing. I have learned how to either not answer or say no thanks and hang up.It is just part of the job.

Yes I get them too, not as much as before. One tip that you need to know is that even if you registered on the Do No Call List, you have to re-register your number every year, it is not a forever thing. I get a call from some pharmacy, saying that my prescription is ready, and they do not take NO for an answer. It is really frustrating

I only answer the phone if I know who is calling. I don't have time or patience for telemarketers.

I get those calls on a daily basis. I got fed up and bought myself a call blocker. It works wonderfully. The call rings one time and cuts them off. Eventually they get the message and stop calling.

Very annoying! We used to be on a Do Not Call list but guess we're not anymore cause the calls have started again! We have caller ID so we mostly just don't answer unless its a number we recognize. Occassionally I'll answer and tell them to take our number off their call lists. That works sometimes.

Telemarketers are practically the only ones that call on our house phone, and have even started calling my husband's cell phone, even though all our phones have been put on the "Do Not Call" list!! So annoying, especially if I do happen to answer, tell them "No" and they call back the very next day!

Yes I hate when they keep calling and I've put my number on the do not call list several times, they just don't take no for a answer!

Mostly, I stopped answering my phone years ago and just it go to voicemail if I don't recognize the number. If the number is legit, they will leave a message. If not, I block the number.
One other thing I do is enter the phone number into a search engine to see if the number appears on sites like 800NOTES - those sites have people reporting whether or not number is a scam. Most of the calls I get are phishing scams. If you answer, then they know your phone is live and you'll get a flood of more calls. If it always goes to voicemail, they eventually give up after a couple days. They may come back a few weeks later under a different number, but I no longer get 8 calls a day for weeks like I used to when I answered the phone.

It's their job - they must make x amount of calls and they must get x amount of people to sign up/join/purchase whatever it is they are selling. As for the "do not call list" yeah, that's a joke in and of itself. What I do is just blow a whistle into the phone and the other end thinks they have reached a fax number so they don't call again. Seems to work better than anything else I've tried.

I've thought about that before, but you have to see things from their point of view. That's their job, so they kind of have to be persistent, but it is annoying. lol

Yes, I do not like them calling me at all. They are a waste of time with their scam offers.
