Title: Doctors
Post by: nannycoe1 on August 08, 2014, 05:34:59 am
Have you ever went to the doctor and left feeling like the doctor really just didn't care about your problem? My left arm has been aching foe a few weeks now and I went to the doctor yesterday, she xrayed my shoulder instead of the part of my arm that was hurting, It was a new doctor I had not seen before, gave me pain pills and steroids and I just feel really upset about it. All they want is money anymore, very few care about the patient

I immediately begin to distrust a doctor who just prescribes pills to treat an ailment.

Shame on her.  Sometimes it takes awhile to determine the real problem.  Usually multiple tests are needed. Did she even talk to you and tell you what she thought?  I'd fine someone else right away.

That's not right at all. There is nothing worse than being dismissed by the doctor. I hope you get the answers you need.

My best friend just went through a terrible experience with the hospitals... She too had been experiencing pain in her arms and legs and had went to the main hospital in town on two different occasions to try to figure out what was wrong with her, but both times the doctor that saw her couldn't find anything wrong so just had her take some pain pills. The third time, she started losing feeling in her hands and feet in addition to the pain and she also had sever pain in her back / side, but because of her bad experience with the main hospital, she decided to go to the county hospital instead. At the county hospital, they did an ultrasound around where she was feeling the back pain. They noticed something and thinking it may have been a gall stone, they rushed her back to the main hospital, but with an order for immediate entry and had a specialist set up to see her when she arrived. After much more rigorous testing and a few nights at the hospital, they found that she had pernicious anemia which means that she wasn't absorbing Vitamin B12. She is now in recovery after dealing with this for a few months, but is still unsure when she'll be able to go back to work (she's now on long-term disability because of this). It really is too bad that the first few times she had gone to the hospital, she was quickly dismissed with a few pain pills instead of trying to determine what the root of the problem was.

However I also know some people that complain about doctors performing too many tests, and again equate it to them just being greedy. So I do get that some doctors are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either they perform many tests -- some that end up being unnecessary -- just to get the most accurate diagnosis, or they treat the issues with what is most likely the problem (in terms of what's seen in the rest of the population) which may not be the correct diagnosis.

Sorry, I have a doctor that only prescribes medicine only if it is necessary. I really like the doctor I have now. But I was like you at one time...

I think they are suppose to get patients out within a certain time.  So if you need someone to be touchy feely, go to a parent, boyfriend or husband.  They see a certain amount of patients a day and really aren't in the mood to hear people complaining about their problems.

I'm currently looking for a new doctor because of that. I feel like he doesn't listen.

It's important to connect with a physician who is sincere about wanting to help people and who has a gift for knowing what they're doing.  They exist; however it might take time and experience to find someone.

It's equally important to connect with a good mechanic if you drive an older vehicle.  Good means someone who is skilled and coming from a place of integrity.

Ask around.  People are usually eager to recommend someone worth recommending.    :D

Did she even bother to tell what the problem MIGHT be?  If she gave you steroids, there must be some kind of inflammation going on.  If I were you I'd remember her name and make sure I never had another appointment with her.  Even if your doctor belongs to a "group," you CAN request to see a certain doctor from that group rather than get the run-around of doctors.  When I find a doctor I really like, I hold on to the them as long as possible!  Sure hope you're feeling better soon!

A guy who lived down the road from me kept going to the doctor and telling them he was having severe head aches.  Horrible head aches.  So all they would do is give him hydros.  This went on for about a year.  Finally, I guess they got tired of giving him pills.  They decided to do some tests and that is when they found the tumor in his brain.  IF they had done something like the MRI to start with he likely could have got better.  But by the time they found it - it was too late.  All they could do is send him home with morphine telling him to get his affairs in order cause he only had a few weeks.  Smh.  Idk what has happened to people in this country.  Sad thing is he had decent insurance.

I know someone else that had cancer and he did not have insurance and they refused to see or treat him.  Sent him home to die.  By the time they found it he was pretty sick but with treatment he might could have gotten better but they would not do anything.  Gave him morphine also.  Sent him home.  He died a couple of months later.

That's really rough!  Like any other profession, there are doctors who are very good and some who should have found another line of work.  I believe you can find ratings for physicians online, which can provide you with information as well as opportunity to rate the medical care you have received.

I think its just like anything else in this world. You find good ones and bad ones.

You can say that about mechanics, cops, store owners etc........

Caring about others is a PLUS when you find honest hearted ones that do!!

I had my gall bladder out 2 yrs ago and i was treated very well by hospital & drs.

Then again i realize there are some butchers and greedy ones too.

Some Doctors are great and some are just out for your money.  You have watch very carefully these days.  If you are in and out of your doctors office in 5 minutes,,,,  that is not a good doctor.

I always have a lengthy conversation with mine on what is happening with me  lol

I read somewhere recently that 58% of patients in hospitals here in the United States are in there because they are being treated for addiction to prescription drugs that are prescribed by their doctors. That alone says a lot about our doctors in this country today.

Good point Sharon. The prescription drug business is BOOMING!

Lots of money.Sadly its abused in many ways......many many ways!!!

While many get rich....others get addicted and sadly might even die.

Michael Jackson,Elvis...good past famous examples!!

Unfortunately, there is no cure for certain health problems. Try to find some personal remedies that work for you.

Sadly, that is becoming the "norm" for all of us and of course, we can thank OBAMA for that one!!

It is really important that you trust your doctor.  If you can't trust the one you have, I'd vote for getting another.

The  Doctor  I use is  good.   He  does not  give  medicine  unless you 100% needed.  He  told me  that  most  doctors will  be after your money but he saves peoples money

Few years ago I had a doctor who would not even look at my symptoms and just write me up giving me medicine which did not even help. Good thing I switched.

Yes I have. A few times in my life. I don't like nasty doctors and I don't like doctors that seem that they don't know what they're doing.
