So I'm in a bio class, and I find this to be a very interesting topic. Learning about how people were once so against the idea that the brain is plastic and how those supporting such ideas were ridiculed is all very intriguing.
I think it's amazing how patients suffering from conditions such as the effects of having a stroke to aphasia have the ability to try to be better and that whether or not they can do it relies heavily on the mentality...
it all just seems like such a miracle to me. :D

Yes, the body is interesting, and when you begin to study anatomy, physiology, neuroanatomy, etc. it becomes all the more miraculous. Once you think about the fact that all the little cells and processes have to do everything just right and in unison, it is truly a miracle that we stay well and healthy as much as we do. In the brain, sometimes new connections can be "sparked," and that is often what rehabilitation therapy is trying to do.

Me too. I think it all has to do with your faith. The brain is so complex. How can anybody understand how it will reroute itself when injured.

Me too. I think it all has to do with your faith. The brain is so complex. How can anybody understand how it will reroute itself when injured.

Yeah i really am starting to have growing interest in rehabilitation therapy

the body is pretty amazing...so intricate in detail...i want to study the morturary science i dont think blood and death is gross either... watching an autopsy is kinda cool when you do the Y incision, in situ position seeing everything all the organs in place naturally. I oddly find beauty in Gods creation even after expiration. :glasses-nerdy:

The brain is truly amazing. I took a hematological psychology class at the University of Wisconsin.that was truly enlightening. Amazing that most people use just a tad over ten percent of the brain. Colored xrays of brain activity are particularly interesting in pointing this out. Even more interesting is the brain activity in people who have had methamphetamines. The chart shows up to two times the amount of brain activity even after two years of using the drug which is probably why it is so addictive. Unfortunately the brain activity of people on methamphetamines is generally in the areas known for pleasure centers: sex, video games, more drugs. I have met a few people on meth and they have been twitchy but sharp, focused on the aforementioned pleasure centers and totally addicted-unable to walk away.

That is very interesting. :) I hope i can get into a similar class here.

It is definitely a miracle when someone can survive a stroke, become rehabilitated and live to tell about it. God created such an amazing and interesting thing "The Body."
