Title: Cancer in pets
Post by: patti4me on October 25, 2014, 12:57:04 pm
Our dog of 14 years has been having some serious issues lately so we took him to the Vet.  She found a tumor and kept him to do a biopsy.  She called last Monday to say it was cancerous.  We met with her Tuesday to discuss options and have decided to let her operate to remove as much of the cancer as she can to give him a better qualify of life for the years he has left with us.  She will XRay before starting the surgery to make sure it has not spread to other parts of his body.  We all love this little guy; he has always been such a good, faithful pet.  He loves everyone including the cats we've had thru the years.  I'm hoping and praying for a good outcome with his surgery.  My husband is extremely attached to him and I don't think he will take it very well if something goes wrong with the surgery.  Have any of you  had a pet with cancer?

Prayers for your dog and your family, too!  I hope the surgery will take care of it so your dog will be cancer free.

I hope he pulls through.  My one cat just had a cancer tumor on her stomach removed this week.  She had one several years ago and we were told another would probably grow back in time and sadly it did.  She had her operation, pulled through good and is home.  Of course she has the cone on and hates it, but she is ok.  I pray your little one will be ok, please keep us posted.  They are not pets, they are very important members if the family.

I hope the surgery goes well and that the Vet is able to get clear margins and that you have many more years with your doggie.  I have had two dogs with cancer.

I will keep your doggie in my prayers. I have never had a pet with cancer but can imagine how difficult that could be. Pets are part of the family.

I'm sorry to hear this. :( It's scary and devastating when a pet gets seriously ill like that. I've had two cats that died from cancer, and one doggie that had cancer. It was extremely difficult for us to watch our fur babies go through that, and extremely difficult for them too of course. But it's not a death sentence by any means -- there's always surgery and treatment, and lots of love and affection and TLC helps too!!! :dog: I hope everything goes well.

Yes I have had several pets that had cancer when they were older.  Some I had to just make comfortable in the time they had left and a couple of others were operated on and did well.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.  He came thru the surgery fine and they were able to get a good bit of the cancer.  He is home and recouperating pretty good.  He has 2 drain tubes that will be removed next week and he has been on pain meds but today is the last day for those.  He's done remarkably well, especially considering his age.  Again, thanks so much for yall's concern!

Some things we take for granted and the fact that some people think pets cant get what most consider is human diseases is rediculous. because my brother used to have a springer/hound mix that died from diabetus
