Title: Amtrak Crash
Post by: ktheodos on May 13, 2015, 11:45:03 am
Such a tragedy...what's scary is that I have ridden that route countless times, and an accident took place in almost the exact same location in 1943

That is so sad about the people that perished in that crash! And how did you find out about the crash in 1943? That is very interesting to say the least!

What disappoints me in the coverage of this tragedy is how the news is already reporting that the train was traveling in excess of 100 mph.   It may be true but the investigators have just barely started.   I use to enjoy CNN but they are so intent on being "the first to report" they have become irresponsible.    I was impressed with one of the doctor's news conference today.   He was commending all the people involved and said we need to remember more than doctors take care of this tragedy.   He went on to mention first responders, nurses, lab workers, radiology and even mentioned  the cafeteria workers.   It was great to hear someone giving credit to everyone.
My prayers to all involved.

Oh, it is terrible! Maybe it was just mechanical failure!

They already had the black box and surveillance video when the reports came out about the speed of the train. There really was nothing more to investigate at that point. It was fact.

I haven't been paying attention to the news. I would like to ride Amtrak sometime. But it only takes a tradegy like this to change your mind. I would just like to sit back and enjoy the scenery and the ride. BMaston12

Truly tragic - prayers going out for the injured and those who have lost family members and friends.  The driver is saying he has no recollection of the accident and supposedly was going double the speed limit.  Whew what a mess.  I have thought of taking the train to visit my sister-in-law going from FL to SC but I hear about stuff like this and I don't know.

Yes it is bad but I think that with all the bad stuff going on all over the world and 2 seconds after it happens it is being sent out in text, breaking news alerts via apps on phones, on the tv, on the radio, and basically I think people have become immune to it.  Kind of like the school shootings.  When the first couple happened we were all in shock.  Speechless.  Watching the news in awe.  And now, it's like, oh another one....

And then everyone wanting to be the "first" to report it and they release stuff before they should or before they know what is going on and you get the wrong facts so the next time it's like "is this really what happened"

What makes it even worse is that technology was about to be installed in that very train in just a matter of months that would have slowed the train down even if the engineer wasn't paying attention. I heard this morning that the number if deaths have gone up to 8 already. So sad.

I heard on the news last night that the Northeast Corridor in Philadelphia should not be taken in excess of 50 mph. The engineer of the Amtrak train was driving 106 mph.  :bad: The death toll is now eight with several critically injured. :(

I read that after the eighth body was recovered, everyone was accounted for that was on the train.

If you want to ride something that has never crashed, you're going to be sitting at home for a long time!

I dare say the people on the train just wanted to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

I'm scared to death to fly, but I do it anyway. You can always turn out to be a statistic. 8)

This is true but with terrorists and all that I don't see me ever getting on a plane.  Although I don't think I would have gotten on one before all that either.  If God wanted me to fly He would have given me wings.  :D
