Title: expensive taste

I would say that I am reasonable when spending money.
recently, I saw a problem surface on my kitchen floor, the result of a major spill 4 years ago.
when I asked the apartment superintendent about replacing the flooring, the option I had in mind is quite expensive.
I won't be able to get it.

Buy a beautiful kitchen rug for now. Just might make a big difference unless it is in a spot where the rug will be no help at all.

when you live in an apartment you really are at the mercy of the landlord so I would suggest you find a way to "cover it up" until you're ready to move out

If you rent an apartment - they are not going to go for expensive flooring.  And I wouldn't either.  Most times renters do not take care of stuff and do not care if it is damaged.  So the landlord will go with the least expensive thing they can get.  And if the damage was your fault then you are lucky they aren't making you pay for the repair.  If the damage was the last tenants fault then it should have been repaired before you moved in.

I like the idea of putting a rug there temporarily. It's a temp fix!
