I get so sick of going to Walmart especially on the weekends and they have 40 registers and only have 3 of them open.
I am curious if this is just our Walmart or do they all do this.
-
oh they are all like this..we have 2 in here in anderson sc just like this..the one in central sc is a little better..which is where we usually go..get too upset at anderson stores
-
I'm sorry to tell you but that's all Walmart everyone Walmart I every been to do that and it's so slow .
-
We have 3 Walmarts in our area. 2 Superstores and that is always the case, only a couple of registers open at the busiest times. The neighborhood market Walmart is better. Few registers but most of them are open at any given time.
-
I have a friend who worked there for many years. I think they have really down-sized their help. Soooo hard to find someone to help often.
I have learned to use the automatic check-out, and use that more and more often. There are usually a few free when I go through.
Places like Walmart will never lose too many customers, even when help is hard to find. Folks in my income bracket need Walmart, for the prices.

My Wal-Mart is pretty good about checking people out. I don't recall ever having to wait very long.
Even if it's busy, I don't like to use the automated checkout. I would rather have a person getting paid to help me. That's a win-win. Scanner doesn't smile or say hi to me either.
:fish:
-
yes but they just installed self checkouts which help this problem
-
In order to get decent prices we have to travel 80 miles to go to a Walmart. And yes it is always the same thing not enough cashiers. I hate having to stand in line for a long time after having to go all over the store for items. It seems like they want you to buy but they don't care about you when you check out. When I have to go to my doctor who is 167 miles one way we stop at Walmart on the way back and I tell you it is a nice big store and you rarely have to wait to get checked out. I am going to go to the new Sam's club this next . It is only 106 miles from home. Granted a little farther then we would go but is is a straight shot in on the freeway. Does not really take any longer to get there. I am really looking forward to it. I like buying in bulk since I have to drive so far.
-
i agree it is so stupid to have only a couple of cashiers i try to go though the self checkout isles
-
Yes. This is exactly like the Walmarts around here... 40 registers & like 3 open. The large supercenter one, has televisions half way through the lines to occupy people as they wait. On the week-ends it gets crazy there. I think they could add a cent or two.. or three & hire more workers.
The little neighborhood Walmart market they just opened up seems to be run more smoothly, they have 4 self checkouts always open, & there doesn't seem to ever be too much of a wait.
-

I tend to think it's ALL Walmarts, or any other store like Target, etc. Ours only has a couple of registers open at a time, too. If you've noticed, none of these stores have the stock they used to, either. We just had a big Walmart open here last summer and already they've dropped some of the things I buy on a regular basis. Annoys the stuffin' out of me!
-
I think it's a lot of stores not just Walmart.
-
Walmart is awful. I keep telling myself to stop going there and start going to Target.
-
It has been like this at the Walmart closest to me. It drives me crazy.
-
I never shop at Walmart but I'm not surprised at this.
-
I never shop at Walmart. It is so far away from me in my area.
I agree they can increase the price by 1 cent and hire a few more workers.
-
They all do that which annoys and irritate me. I have always wanted to know the concept as to why. To top it all is when the cashier is having problems with a customer and their coupons.
-
I think that's most of them. There was one that used to go to that was a supercenter. It just closed last week, which I wasn't surprised.
-
When I go to Walmart, I usually go to the self check out stations. They usually go a lot faster.
-
I haven't quite seen that many registers, but yeah, usually not all of them are open...
I heard Walmart is closing quite a bit of stores across the USA ... :/
-
I just hate it when people just block paths and you have no choice but to go around or ask them to move.
-
all the one here in TN do it also.
-
these days even the big chain stores are on the d.i.y craze, you might see them custom making everything from hamburgers to how you shop at retailers
-
At my Walmart in South Idaho, there are about 20 Checkouts, but they only have a couple manned in the early morning, one of which is the tabacco stand which you have to use if you want tobacco. In addition, they have the self checkouts open this early (8,30am, not that early is it!). So I mostly use the self checkouts, I can use them every bit as fast as the cashiers and I enjoy using them. Now on sale days; Black Friday etc. they do open most of the other checkouts. I do find it frustrating when I have like 30 items to check and the person in front of me has over 100. I sent a letter once to let them know I had been particularly impressed with one of their checkout operators who was always so friendly. She chatted to me as she checked my items and never made one mistake. Not only did they never respond to my letter, they never informed the Checkout Operator that they had received such a complimentary letter. Shame! The Checkout Operator left a few weeks later to start a new job! Their loss.
-
I have to agree with you, our Walmart has about 20 checkouts and on a weekend you're lucky if 4 are open. Hate to tell you how long I have waited in line. I have stopped going on weekends, I'll go someplace else before I have to wait in long lines.
-
My Walmart has plenty of cashiers. And if its very busy, I use self checkout, which I really enjoy. I wanted to grow up and be a grocery bagger. But ended up being a librarian instead. :)
-
I never shop at Walmart during the weekend. They never have enough cashiers and it takes forever to get out of there.
-
Well we have a super Walmart . There is just certain time of the month I do not go. When food stamps renew usually the 1st of the month and SNAP. and Medicare payments. I never go tg Walmart at the beginning or the end of the month. The lines are way too long.
-
Unfortunately, I've been to a few Walmarts in different states and they all seem to operate that way. It's absolutely ridiculous. Something else I've noticed, the cashiers at the Walmart in my hometown don't even greet you.
-
Whenever I use the self check I usually get an error message and still end up having to wait for customer service. It'll say something like not all items are in the bag or something like that.
yes but they just installed self checkouts which help this problem
-
Well they do it like that where I am I know. I can't stand Walmart. Never go anymore. I need a toilet seat lol and I imagine I will end up going there over the next week but I really dread it. I don't go unless I have to - I am disabled and you couldn't get any help there for love or money and if you do you have to wait all day. At least they have electric carts otherwise I would just go to lowes for the toilet seat.
-
i never shop walmart the customers and staff are so rude .
-
One person at the start of this chat mentioned that they seem to be discontinuing favorite products.
I will try to find a regular item I get, and more and more often, takes a while. I have to go to pharmacy to ask them to page me help....usually they aren't happy about doing that, to find an employee to check if more of the product in back....often not any more in stock.
Can't tell you how often they say more coming in that night, come tomorrow...I can't just come back tomorrow. When I go maybe the following week, they are out already.
Yeah, I heard they are closing a lot of them also.
I don't want to lose them, love the prices, but they drive me nuts.... :)
In all fairness, I have met a couple very nice employees there, but many seem annoyed when I ask for help.
Had a dear friend who worked there for years, and she was treated so unkindly. She is a lovely and helpful person, and should never have been treated that way.
:rose:
-
I'm afraid they all do it but at least in my area they have the "do it yourself" registers which makes it a whole lot better!
-

We do not have self check-out.
Walmart is awful. I keep telling myself to stop going there and start going to Target.
Thing is there is no where else to shop in my town other than Walmart. We do not have a Target. Or anything else.
I never shop at Walmart. It is so far away from me in my area.
I agree they can increase the price by 1 cent and hire a few more workers.
They do not have to increase the prices. They can afford to hire more workers. Or just let the workers they have get more than 10 hours a week.
I haven't quite seen that many registers, but yeah, usually not all of them are open...
I heard Walmart is closing quite a bit of stores across the USA ... :/
They are only closing the little neighborhood markets that they opened up every where. Not the Supercenters.
-
I just hate it when people just block paths and you have no choice but to go around or ask them to move.
And I hate it when people just act stupid. When I am shopping I am looking at the shelves and if I am blocking someone's view they can either say excuse me or wait until I am finished. The same with if I am standing in the store and they want to walk in the exact spot I am standing in. Walk around me or wait.
Unfortunately, I've been to a few Walmarts in different states and they all seem to operate that way. It's absolutely ridiculous. Something else I've noticed, the cashiers at the Walmart in my hometown don't even greet you.
I am not excusing their behavior but just curious as to if you have worked in customer service? I have worked as a cashier before. I always tried to be nice to people but some people are just @ssholes. You can only take so much abuse from customers. And don't say well get another job. It's not that easy to find a job right now.
Whenever I use the self check I usually get an error message and still end up having to wait for customer service. It'll say something like not all items are in the bag or something like that.
yes but they just installed self checkouts which help this problem
We have a grocery store that has self check out. I walk up and hit the begin button and almost always get the "please wait for an attendant". It is not worth the hassle.
-
I guess it can depend on which Walmart you go to; location can be key. Like I sometimes go to one in western Connecticut and it's not too bad of a experience. Then I go to one back in my homestate of NY and it's screaming babies and screaming adults, people ignoring you, crowded. But I go to Walmart only rarely as they're not too local.
-
My biggest issue is the lack of cashiers open. I have a friend who has left his full buggy sitting there several times. It is also aggravating when you can't find anyone in the department if you need help. But most times if you do find someone you are just as well to have not found them.
And I can understand the frustration of the employees who are working understaffed and being constantly yelled at by angry customers.
-
I think this must be a trend in all Wal-Marts. Every time I go to Wal-Mart there are more closed registers than open registers.
-
My mother and I love shopping at walmart and we have been there 1-2 million times. We also love target.
-
I dont have a problem with walmart but you are right. 40 registers and only a handful open. and after 9 at night, 1 open. walmart likes to keep labor down
-
My local Wal-Mart operates similarly to that of the original poster. As operates 24 hours, I tend to do my grocery shopping early in the morning on weekends. Sometimes one register is open. Other times, it is not, and I have to resort to using the self-checkout aisle.
-
Self check out is always work for me
-
That's why their starting to put self check out in some of their stores.
-
I have two walmarts near me one there is aonly three registers open slways lines the other is a super store registers are always open I use self service to get poutfaster
-
Many wal-mart stores are like this especially on holidays. I do not shop there very often but I go there once in a while.
-
When I go to Walmart I usually don't buy a lot of things so I usually go to the express line or self checkout and I never have a long wait.
-
completely agree but offers and prices are always great. I'm not happy with them closing one near my neighborhood and 200 + around us
-
Go to the Jewelry, Electronics or Sporting Goods counter to checkout. Walmart is reducing the number of cashiers to keep the operating costs low. Did you know some stores have already closed because no one wants to shop there?
-
I haven't shopped at Walmart for almost 15 years now and I'm happy with that. But as for long waits, a lot of stores do that now.
-
they don't keep to many open unless its for christmas.
-
Most stores do this, just like yesterday, Super Bowl only had 4 lanes open and each lane had about 5 people in it. Just crazy!
-

You cannot check out in jewlery or electronics or sporting goods with a buggy full of groceries. And the only ones that closed are the little market stores. Walmart isn't going anywhere. If I had bought the same stuff at our local grocery store it would likely have cost me $30 more.
-

I went to the grocery store this morning and had 2 small cans of cat food. ONE register open. None of the self check out open, no express lane open, I am like you are kidding me. I think I made that front end manager mad cause I know he heard me. I talked to a girl standing at the front and ask if the express was open and she says she didn't know it was her first day. I said oh ok. I just thought they would have more than ONE register open! Although I don't know why. lol
-
I think it's all of them. At least all I've been in have been like that. The cashiers for the most part are usually rude and slow as well. shame that there's not really anywhere as cheap to go to anymore.
-
I don't have much of a wait at Walmart. Plus it helps having the self checkouts!
-
lots of places do this but wll mart around hear really sucks.
-
I live Walmart but with my anxiety I only like to go when there are no people Ib the store. Usually before 9 in the morning it's still pretty empty.
-
I live within 20-40 minutes of 4 wal-marts. Every one of them has the same problem. In fact I worked in one of them at one time. I think they should remove 3/4's of those and install more self check out's or use the space for something more productive. Like supervised play/child care. Oh now I've gotten started on another frustration of mine in wal-mart. People letting there kids run all over the store.
-
Yes, they do it here at our local WalMart here in Georgia. I do most of my grocery shopping there and it gets very irritating.
-
The few around me hardly ever have more than a few lanes open no matter how busy they are.
-

I will agree with the slow. Not so much on the rude. It seems every one complains about ALL cashiers being rude every where. I have been a cashier before and people are stupid and if you do not just totally lick their butt they say you are rude. Most cashier jobs pay pretty low and people are hateful and mean to them. After a while it grates on your nerves. And don't say "get another job". Jobs are not that easy to find right now. Just saying. Most of the cashiers I have delt with have been pretty nice over all. The cashier in this situation was really nice. When I complained to corporate I made sure to tell them that. She is doing the best she can and she is being nice to every one even though people are yelling at her because of the long lines esp since we were in an express lane. But there was nothing else open.
-
I think the majority of Walmart's do this. I do not understand why they have so many check out lanes and never use them. It drives me even more crazy during the holidays because they know it is going to be busy.
-
I never have this problem at Walmart.
-
Yeah it's usually that way, unless you're heading to the self checkout that's the experience you'll get.
-
That's why My family don't even bother going there anymore. Not only that they have someone working the cashiers who don't know how to ring up discount items or there was a flaw in the register you will take forever to wait for the manager to come clear it.
-
Yes I too hate Wal Marts.....I like did like going to Winn Dixie when they had four self check lanes but they took them out.
-
Walmart is just like any other business. Walmart is in business for a "profit". To keep overhead expenses low (and avoiding store closures), they have open self-checking stands. Walmart has already closed some stores because of budget problems. I have the same problem with the shortage of cashiers. To avoid this problem: Shop early in the morning or late at night...not during rush hours when it is very crowded. Walmart still has the best prices in town...at least in my town.
-
Weekends always get so packed its so annoying when there's drama going down in front of you . ::)
-
Our local walmart is the same! 40 registers and only 2 open! I think it must be a Walmart rule or something!
-
They do a good job where I live!
-
Yes there are like 3 or 4 around my area and they are all the same. Also the grocery stores are the same way, the one by my house in the mornings have NO cashiers all are the self checkouts, and if you go late on the evening only 1 or 2 cashiers for 50 customers, they want us to use the self check out and I really hate those
-
I won't shop at Walmart, for any reason.
Those low prices cost more than you might think.
https://youtu.be/RXmnBbUjsPs
As for the self-checkouts, every time I'm tempted to use one, I think of the two human beings who were replaced by them.
I can wait for a live person, or I can do without.
-
Yeah that's the same way over here too. They got another Walmart built back in July that's, surprisingly, a little better than the one that's closer to us. It doesn't seem as packed and check out is a little smoother. At least Walmart has the self checkout which helps to speed things up.
-
That happens in my store as well but I don't go much on a weekend .. I like the self checkout line .. then I can pack my stuff the way I like it. Faster and easier
-
Then don't go to Walmart simple. Oh wait if you go somewhere else and there are plenty of registers open you will probably complain (to us) about the prices. ::) 8) Have a blessed day :peace:
-
By the way, I shop at a Walmart Super Center and there aren't 40 registers there so I highly doubt you have 40 where you are and anyone who claims that. 8) :peace:
-
I stopped going to Walmart a long time ago.
-
Love Walmart.
-
Not all. Mine open all of the registers but still not enough to served there customers. :)
-
Walmart just like most stores will have a ton of registers but only a few open because they keep just enough people to do it based off how well they average in sales during the time of day or not they have on that day during the week. Someday's maybe busy some maybe not at that time on say like a Monday
-
Ahhh i hate going there as well. If i need to go, i only go during the weekdays. It isn't so bad especially in the early afternoons or early mornings
-
that happened to me today, two open registers & all the self check out full(4 working while 4 not)stores should know, that they lose sales cuz people tend to put back stuff while stuck waiting in line. I do!
-
Walmart Shipping Pass is the best thing to have when you're ordering online :) :)
-
I use self checkout and i still have to wait in line few minutes.
-
walmart when you go to a big store like that you hane to be patient
-
I love walmart. I can't go into places with alot of people so I go to Walmart early morning and it's normally pretty empty. Good luck...
-
I dread going to Walmart. It's always full of too much people and they cashiers take way too long to checkout.
-
My Walmart seems to be pretty good at checking out. Normally I go to the self checkout line and the wait isn't too bad.
-
Don't go to Walmart :)
-
Don't go to Walmart :)
Some people do not have a choice. If you live in a small town and have no other options then you have to go there. :(
-
I don't know how many of you are aware of how much crime occurs in Walmart parking lots. :( Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
-
Well have you gone to the part of the store that you buy it at home and you pick it up at the store, well that's worse by far!!!
-
Walmart is always like that for me when I go.Crap load of people not enough cashiers.
-
I don't know how many of you are aware of how much crime occurs in Walmart parking lots. :( Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
Most of the crime in my local walmart parking lot is more of fights between people who know each other. But you are correct people are walking and texting and talking on cell phones and are not even paying attention to what is going on around them.
-
Well have you gone to the part of the store that you buy it at home and you pick it up at the store, well that's worse by far!!!
No. I am not sure what you are talking about? Do you mean where you order online and it is shipped to the store? Or you buy it and it is pulled and waiting for you. That is not available where I live. I know I would not want to do that. lol I did not know Walmart done that. I knew Lowe's done it.
-
I'm not a huge Wal Mart shopper, but I definitely know what you're talking about. The way that they treat their customers leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's not only having a few registers open when there are tons of customers waiting to check out, but dealing with some of their policies, their associates etc. If there's one thing I would like to do this upcoming year it's to phase Wal-Mart out of my life and take my business to other merchants.
-
I haven't been to walmart in maybe a month if not more.
-
walmarts in bug citys are all the same and like that .. wall mart sucks.
-
:) Our Walmart is the same way. I make a point to shop in the "off peak" hours so I don't have to wait. :)
Oldfriend
-
This type of control isn't only just happening at Walmart, it is happening to all stores. Target, does it all the time. It looks like they really don't care if you buy or don't buy.
-
Sounds like my home town. There are other small stores, but Walmart is the omega there.
Don't go to Walmart :)
Some people do not have a choice. If you live in a small town and have no other options then you have to go there. :(
-
I have four walmarts in my area. Two about the same distance from my house. One is a supercenter and other is the food marketplace. The supercenter is always super busy and very understaffed in the cashier dept. There's a walmart employee in almost every aisle but only a handful of cash registers open. Now the food market is a bit better with the checkout process, but they also have the self checkout to help move things along. The other two walmarts are bit further from down the street from the two closest to me and both are also a bit better, although much smaller. They're almost like mini supercenters. Actually they are mini supercenters lol.
-
That's one of the reasons I try to avoid Walmart as much as I can. I'm not even sure what the point of having all those registers is for if they never have more than a couple open. It's very annoying and no one likes standing in a line that long. I try to look for sales and deals elsewhere.
-
yeah theres this crazed fad with cash regiters and cashiers these days, they only open another checkout line if necessary
-
Ours is really good. Never too many lines open, unless it is Christmas time, but we are a small community and we never have more than 3 or 4 people in the longest line. During peak times maybe 5 or 6 and they open more lines real fast.
-
Just about every Wal-Mart I have ever been to is the same way. I don't know why they have so many registers if they are not going to use them.
-
yeah theres this crazed fad with cash regiters and cashiers these days, they only open another checkout line if necessary
They don't open when necessary. That is what upsets me. Never should you have to stand in line for 30 minutes to check out of any store.
-
I get so sick of going to Walmart especially on the weekends and they have 40 registers and only have 3 of them open.
I am curious if this is just our Walmart or do they all do this.
they all do lol. not to mention it doesn't matter what time you go they are always swarming with people. unless you got at 2am or something, and even then there are a good amount of people, plus all the stalkers have *bleep* all over almost every isle. lol I dread walmart, so glad I dont work there anymore.
-
They are all like that and unfortunately they also have mostly *bleep* poor customer service. I actually hate going there and would rather spend the extra couple cents elsewhere.
-
I have to agree, this is one thing that annoys me.
