I just learned that I am going to be a Grandmother for the first time in April! I am excited with mixed emotions! My daughter (an only child) and I are best friends and have been all of her life. I pray she has as close of a relationship with her child as we have. I can't wait to take the little one to our favorite place in the world ~ Hilo, Hawaii. Had a trip planned for next June but will have to delay that for a year or so now. I couldn't imagine going back to Hawaii without my daughter with me!
Any suggestions on a neat name for Grandmother? I want to be called something unique and different. We already have a "Granny" (my 93 year old grandmother) and a Mamaw (my mother) in the family.

I became a grandmother for the first time last year and there was a lot of talk in the family about what I was going to be called by my granddaughter. The other grandmother already had dibs on a few names from having grandchildren in other families but I tried out plain old "grandma", "nana" etc. for myself. Turns out the name you get is the one the
grandchild can say first which in my case is something like "ma ma". She has some other (as yet undecipherable) name for her mother.

Congrats!

 Congratulations!!

That's wonderful news! So happy for you. I'm sure you will come up with the 'perfect' name.

I was a grandmother for the first time at 45. I wasn't ready. The words "grandma," "grammy." etc. picture an old lady with gray hair and a cane. That definitely wasn't me. Nana fit me better. The boys call me "Nana S*****" because their maternal grandmother didn't want to be called the above names either. So it's "Nana L******." :)
Congratulations. You will have many fantastic memories. (My first born was born in April, as was my first born grandson, his son.) :)

Congratulations, gaylasue! It's exciting, isn't it? I'm enjoying my first grandson who was born this past June. There hasn't been a baby in my family for 20 years! My Greyson is an awesome and happy little boy and I can honestly say I'm in love again!!! :D

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!! I remember when my first and only grandson was born 20 yrs. ago to my "only daughter" it was the best gift a person could ever hope to receive. As far as names for "grandma" go, I always like to listen to the child when he/she first tries to say "grandma" cause usually at that time it never comes out the way it should and it kinda sticks. My niece used to call her grandmother MooMoo cause that's the best she could say. Well, either way - enjoy your grandchild cause they are the best!!!

Congrats!! So happy for you! My son calls my mother Mima (pronounced: Me-Muh)... I made her a grandmother at the young age of 34! lol... I was 17 when I had my 1st and my mother was 17 when she had me. She did not want to be called grandma, so I had a friend who used to call her grandmother Mima and we liked it and it stuck ever since! That was almost 27 years ago! :) Hope you pick a great name! The baby will love you no matter what! :)

Kris Jenner, of the Kardashians, is called "lovey" by her grandchildren. That is unique.

Nice, I don't have any grandkids that I know of (I have boys and they said there's none). Everyone has told me there's nothing like a grandchild so I will have to wait and see.

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother!
I've been a grandmother since I was 38. I have always been called Grandma by the grands. They will attach my first name, Grandma Janet, in conversations where it is necessary to differentiate which grandma they are referring to.
My youngest grandchild, Calvin who is 22 months old, just walked in and gave me a big bear hug.
"Grandma" is a very sweet name to me. Your daughter and her husband may have ideas on what they want their child to call you.
