Title: Banana Boxes ?
Post by: sbenkoski on April 28, 2017, 07:30:18 pm
Have you every shopped at a banana box store ? We have one and they are a blast and allot of fun. Its a crash and dent store, messed up labels, close outs and or the expire date is over. Ours opens on Thursday morning at 9:00 am and I'm in the lot waiting for her to open the doors. I have found the coolest stuff there olive oil .. stuff that would cost 20.00 but the labels messed up for 2.00 bucks. Great teas that are normal 7.00 but she bought out a store that was closing and the tea is 1.50 its really a eye opener, she has every thing from soup to nuts and really great prices and never the same from week to week.

Hey that sounds like a nice place to shop.  Too bad we don't have one where I live or even close by.

I guess the reason the name is banana box is because all the stuff from the big chain stores goes to some place and the pack the stuff up in banana boxes and stack them on pallets, the close out stores buy the stuff by the pallet load with no idea whats in the boxes, they have to take the good with the bad so to say. The owner here said she's been doing this for 20 years and has a very good supply from MPLS here in Minnesota. If you think of all the stores in big cities kind of makes sense to the huge supply of stuff she might get.  I guess the boxes from the bananas are very strong and stack just right for this stuff..... Really it's really worth the trip if you find one.

I hadn't even heard of this until you just mentioned it. Clicked on the link and while I see some stores in my state, none of them are remotely close to where I live.

Don't just go by that list, mine isn't on there. "Thanks Old Buddy for that list "  I'd do a search on salvage stores and closeouts.

Yep!!  and boy can you save the cash... got to figure all the damaged stuff that's still perfect to use. Like a smushed corner of a cereal box that won't stack  not a broken seal just squished a little  I can buy for .99 cents at the normal store 3.99  and she gets all the little debbies snacks say christmas the day after nothing wrong just isn't christmas 2.99  now .49 cents and like last week she had a tons of easter stuff.  They are really worth finding and going to. And like I said its like a treasure hunt every week it's different, I been going every thursday for 5 years and have not missed it once. She opens for 4 days a week .  Ours is called Wabasha Discount Center.

I never heard of a store called Banana Box. From your post it sounds like a great store where you can get some good deals. I will have to see where the nearest one is to me.

That store sounds awsome.  I have never heard of it.  I checked the link oldbuddy listed.  No stores in the immediate area.  Some googling brought interesting results that need more investigation.

There isn't one in my location... the stores here usually take their damaged & "close to expiring" merchandise and sell it at a good discount though.  One of my fave stores for doing that just moved to a bigger building about an hour away from me now...I miss it sooo much.   :crybaby2:

Our  charity store here we live collects donations cash, check, clothing, household items , toys and even furniture. We sort it and what we can't use in the way of clothing (meaning if we don't have room is packed shipped to Dalles  where they pay us  so much a pound and we use that money then to buy from a dealer that buys close outs, dented and almost expired  items that we then can  give to those who are in need of food. we use not government funds of any kind.  All of the items we send to Dalles are then shipped overseas. So nothing that is donated to goes to waste. Love it

It's packed and shipped by pallet like this ! And these stores have no idea what they are going to get, they buy like 48 boxes on a pallet at a set price. Some  is perfect some has a dent some is worthless. Really its so cool going there it's like a treasure hunt.
