Have you guys ever had a house built or went through the process to buy a house? My sons and I are doing that right now and it is so stressful - makes me want to just go live in a tent in the woods and forget it LOL. Oh well this too shall pass.

It is a long and stressful process. Especially if your are building a new one. It takes a toll on your thinking and planning process. Especially if you do not have a good construction company. The kind that only has 3 or 2 people and they take their time. And have other multiple appointments. Sucks!

I've never built a house...too stressful. Building a deck was bad enough. I have purchased two homes in my life and I rather enjoyed the process.

We have had one house built and moved twice. Bigger builders are generally a headache and they try to keep you captive with their own mortgage companies by offering all kinds of incentives. The mortgage companies associated with builders are generally inept which is what caused me to get into the mortgage brokering business thirty years ago. I figured if they could make all kinds of money giving absolutely horrible service I could make a good living by providing excellent service. And so it was for twenty five years till the real estate market took a dump and government became too involved in the mortgage business. Realtors are another source of angst in the closing of your house. I opened my own real estate brokerage when I saw what a poor job those guys made for being inept.

We had a house built 2 years ago and it was really stressful dealing with all the contractors. Good Luck.

I've never built a home.
But the home I currently own, we purchased while the housing track was being built, was kind of fun getting to pick all the custom options & make it my own :)
I have just recently had to have the entire house repiped for $6500 & I can attest, that dealing with all the hassle and construction and not having water due to the leak.... was a pain. The house still isn't put back together because the city inspector still needs to come out & then the house needs to be painted AND the contractors still have to come back to patch a hole they forgot in a cabinet.
So much hassle. But in the end it will be worth it! Hang in there!

It can be a very stressful experience, but think when it's done how happy you and your sons will be. You will have a home exactally what you want. Good luck and keep us updated on the progress.

I lived in this home for very long time. I have updated it and put in a new floor yes that was stressful.

I have never had a home built but I bet it is super stressful!

I always wanted to be a home builder. I think the whole process is interesting. I agree it can be stressful but so is anything else worth doing. The thing that stressed me out about it was making sure it was done right. I was always afraid of even the best, most reputable contractors cutting corners. For that reason I was there nearly every day wanting to know what is happening. A project manager to guide you so the builders can work is worth it's weight in gold. A good one will take on a lot of the stress and keep you informed every step of the way including time constraints and budget modifications. I've been thinking of moving lately but have seen so many new homes that I may not consider building, but if I can't get the privacy I building may be my only option. Right now in life, I just don't want to envision the finale but have to wait to see it done for real.

I haven't yet, but I'm thinking about it. I have a piece of property without a house, so I'm debating whether to just get a trailer or build a house. Won't be for a couple of years, though.

It can be costly so watch. I am sure once it is all done you will be happy.

At least Building a house wont take as long as a complete remodel. taking forever to do it because we don't want to go into debt to do it, But am on the down hill side as son as they get the stucco done this week. waiting for contractors that never show up with the estamtes is hard.

For a while I was saying that I did not want to own my own home because of all of the responsibility. I just didn't think that I wanted to be bother with that on my own , then I decided to look into buying a home recently. You guys are scaring me now. lol

Buying a house can be allot of fun, and allot of heart aches, If your a single woman, find a guy friend you trust to go with, also get a house inspection done, people can cover things up that will kill you in costs later and make you hate what you have put your self into. Watch the old movie Baby Boom with Diane Keaton you will love the movie, and see what happens to her house !! its a real eye opener..... I lived threw it with a house I fell in love with, where every thing possible broke. And If they say they are selling it as is ...RUN and don't look back ... I think the movie the money pit is about a house disaster as well, i've never seen that one.

It can be cheaper to do it your way... and you can build it the way you want

i wish i had the money to build my own.........

I have never bought a house, but I have built a number of them for other people. In my experience, when someone is having a house built, it is only as stressful as the customers nature. It should be and can be quite an enjoyable experience.

I don't have the skillset to build a shed from scratch let alone a house, but I bought my current house. Lots of stress with the inspections, sign documents and cleanup work afterwards. The first few months were particularly stressful making the home cozy. I wish I could buy a newer home, but they're more expensive. I'm comfortable now, but hate the process.

building a house would be too much for me. I took me 20 years before I renovated one room.
good luck in the process. please keep us posted :rainbow: :peace:
