We just had a horrific car accident in our town with two fatalities - a grandfather and his 11 year old grandson. They pulled out in front of a person driving a camaro at reported "excessive" speed - that driver is in critical condition. I know this is a bummer topic but I am just wondering what the heck is wrong with people. They are in such a hurry for what? To shave a min or two off their travel time? To have people think they are cool because they have a muscle car? I dread going out to drive honestly - no one goes the speed limit or even close to it. They pass when they shouldn't. I hope people will start to think if they don't care about their own lives maybe some others do.

I'm so glad you asked. I keep wondering why no one follows the rules of the road anymore. It seems as though people cannot be courteous when driving. It's a me first mentality. :o
If everyone went the same posted speed limit, stayed in their lane (hopefully the far right lane) as much as possible, kept off their mobile devices and stayed a reasonable amount of car lengths behind the driver ahead of them, we would have vastly fewer accidents happening. The jockeying for position creates an unsafe environment for all involved.

So sorry to hear that. I consider my self a very careful driver. I also am always looking out for the crazy driver out there. I just taught my granddaughter to drive because her mom or dad had no patience with her. Hopefully she too will turn out to be a careful driver. So far she seems to be one.

I can't effort recklessness or I can't drive mine. I still ride my bike.

I consider myself a careful driver, but I do go over the speed limit. I'm also pretty aggressive, I learned to be when driving in a city with a bunch of idiots that try to run you over, cut you off, etc. So taking the initiative is self-preservation.

Most people speed. Not being smart but you automatically want to blame the car that was driving along straight in his lane of traffic. But say nothing about the man who "pulled out in front of him". Both drivers most likely played a part. I drive to work on the interstate and on a big open 4 lane highway. The speed limit is pretty low and there are only a couple of places where a car could even pull out from. Stop and look before you pull out. lol. It is easy to get above the posted speed. And just for the record - I was traveling this road a few weeks ago and going the posted speed limit and some idiot sat there until I got almost to him and then pulled out. He also then took the ditch because he saw I was going to flatten him. He was ignorant. He just wanted to get "in front of me". He in no way had time to pull out.

yes I try to be careful. Haven't had a ticket in 7 years. Can't believe I got that one !!!!! 2 miles over the speed limit,,, ( school zone)
I try to watch everything going on around me,,, its the crazy drivers that you need to watch lol

I am a very attentive careful driver, never a ticket or accident in over 40 years of driving!

Yes I think I'm a good driver. I've been in a few fender benders but it was never my fault.

I consider myself a careful driver. I don't speed and when there are drivers who try to cut in front of me or honk, I just let them go. I try to leave early for work or wherever I need to go to, just so that I can take my time and get there. As far as l go, I've never had to cut into traffic to get somewhere. I'm very safe.

I have had a drivers license since I was 14 and am now 74. Never had a ticket of any kind, But was 2 bad car accidents in 3 months just because of people driving like idiots and running stop lights, They both walked away from them ok and I on the other hand spent 9 months of serious therapy and now years of chiropractic work on my back.

I try to be as careful as possible. It is the other folks that I am worried about.

I feel like I have to be more careful around here because most of the people driving just don't care. When I was living in UT the drivers weren't that bad. They're horrible here in CO. Pulling out without looking, speeding, etc...

I try to drive carefully, but sometimes you also have to be a bit aggressive too or else you cannot cross lines, especially in metropolitan locations.

I consider myself to be a professional driver. I have raced in two NASCAR races, taken enough driving courses to teach, drove a truck (third shift) for over six years, learned to drive a motorcycle in one of the most dangerous states for motorcycles due to the retirement population (Florida), taught four kids how to drive stick shift and all four passed their driving tests the first time, and have never had an accident (that was my fault). That being said I am hypercritical of the large percentage of people driving vehicles out there. A lot of the drivers do not realize that their focus needs to be one hundred percent on the road. Hats off to the police that are able to maintain a civil tongue when an accident is due to inattentive driving (cell phones, alcohol, make-up, nose picking).

Every time I'm in the car I can't help but think, 'Why do people need a perfect score on their driver's test when once they get behind the wheel they do whatever they want?' I mean why learn the rules if you aren't going to follow them? It's not just an age group either. It's anyone of any age with any type car. They are going to drive how they want and the heck with everyone else. It's sad and it's scary.

Glad someone brought this topic up, my daughter and I were on the highway and this camero was passing other cars like he was the only one on the road, he thinks just because he has a fast moving vehicle that he owns the road, couldn't really see who was driving because the tints were dark. It's not only sports cars but ones that are not so expensive, they pass by you like you are stopping them from getting somewhere important, people should adhere to the rules of the road, accidents happen when you least aspect it. I drive with lots of caution, especially when i have my daughter in the car with me, and then when I'm in the car by myself also. If you have to be somewhere by a certain time leave early enough so you arrive alive and on time with minuets to spare.

Last week, I stopped at a stop sign, and then waited for a boy on a scooter to pass. Car behind me got impatient and drove around me very fast, after the boy passed, and went through the stop sign.
If there had been a kid behind the first one, chances are he would have been dead. Also there was no way he could have see if the through street (busy) had traffic coming.
Again, why not wait 2 minutes to take your turn. Schools out, go slow. Leave 5 early.
Stupid driver, in a "cool" car...he almost made the headlines.

I have a license but scared to drive so my husband bring me at work in the morning and our friend pick me up in the afternoon if my hubby is working. Have a bad experienced in the road so I trembled if im driving.

I would say I am a cautious driver always watching out for other people and how they drive. So I guess I am :)

Yes, because I have to watch out for idiots all the time. I mean, people around here obviously have no licenses or a suspended license... It's so obvious.

For the most part I am super careful as I rather avoid getting into an accident and to deal with the repairs, rental, insurance, etc.

I'm a careful driver you have to be with all the nutters out there who try to do more then driving putting everyone at risk and they just dont care. Every day I've avoided accidents mostly by people who are on there cell phone cutting into my lane without signalling or even watching. It's annoying to see even more annoying if the driver that does it flips you off which has happen to me a few times

As I have gotten older I have become a more careful driver. I attribute this to not being in that big of a hurry to get to the next red light that the guy who just passed me will be sitting at as well.

Yes sir buddy! I am very careful. I check, check and check again before I make a move on the road. There's so much going on there that we need to be vigilant and cautious. There's road rage, texting and driving, people high on everything, but the kitchen sink, lol! Also those who just doesn't pay attention:-(

I'm a turtle driver & I don't care if they honk, display fingers gestures, or speed past me. I plan to be a defensive driver on the road, not in a hurry to die or accidentally kill someone just to be in a hurry.

Yes, I always try to be; I drive for myself and the other person!Drivers are so distracted these days you have to try and anticipate if you can, but it is hard; but I am as careful as I can be given the conditions we drive under.

Yes, I am a careful driver. Others out there drive fast no matter the weather. They are stupid fools and the grey cells obviously don't work.

Yes! I like to think I am. I actually hate when other people are in my car and I am driving because it ups the probability of being distracted and that makes me anxious!

My family says I am too cautious but never have been in accident in 44 years and they all have had a least one.

I'm pretty careful when I drive. Although I may drive aggressively sometimes, I know I'm being safe about my moves.

Yes, I am a careful driver. I have horrible anxiety when I am driving which makes me that much more careful/cautious.

I am trying to drive more carefully as I'm getting older because I know reaction times slow. Additionally, there seems to be a plethora of drivers who think they need to get there first or be ahead of you by any means possible.

i have menieres disease so i dont drive by myself and i drive slower and definitely more careful

I would say I'm about 75% careful when driving Lol, always have my friends holding on to something when they are in my car.

Some people are overly cautious and that can be confusing.
I'd like to think that I'm a confident driver because I haven't had any citations for a long, long time. :heart:

Yes I am. I have two children. It's the other people I worry about. Road rage and everyone in such a hurry to get somewhere.
