If you are, and you have not seen Strangers on a Train or Dial M for Murder, then be warned.

Two problems with two movies. First, Dial M for Murder was a good movie but not one of his best. The main problem that I have with this movie is that the husband frames his wife for murder, she gets convicted, sentenced, and is scheduled for execution all within a few months.
This does not happen. Even in 1954, people were allowed appeals and even without appeals, people do not get executed in such a ridiculously short span of time. I know that movie directors change things to make a story better but when doing so, you have to be sure not to make such a glaring mistake that requires your viewers to check their brains at the door.
A bit disappointed.
Now, Strangers on a Train was a fantastic movie, but I have a problem with one scene.
When the police are chasing a suspect, the suspect jumps onto a spinning merry-go-round filled with children. The cop shoots into the crowded merry-go-round, the ride conductor was killed, and the merry-go-round went crazy.
On what planet do reputable cops ever do this? This stuff happens if you have a cop out of control, but the cop in the movie was a decent cop.
Does not happen. This is another time that Hitchcock insults the intellect of his audience.
Anyway, I am going to try to watch every single Hitchcock film (assuming he doesn't tick me off first).
So far, my favorites are Rear Window followed by Psycho.

I have to agree with your assessment. Strangers on a Train and Dial M for Murder were interesting Hitchcock films, but they did go a little too far with "artistic license." My two favorites are Rear Window and Niagara! :thumbsup:

Yes, I learned that recently. I thought it was a Stephen King/M. Night Shyamalan thing, but apparently they got it from Hitchcock. Tiny bit of trivia. According to the actress that played Ms. Torso, Hitchcock like to mess with his actors. The actors all wore ear-pieces so they could hear his instructions. Well, the dog couple, who sleep on the balcony have a scene where they are trying to get the mattress inside before it rains, and one of them falls inside the window. That was engineered by Hitchcock. He told each actor/actress to go in a different direction, and neither knew this. So, the struggling and falling was real. Hitchcock thought it so funny that he left it in the movie.

I agree. Rear Window is my favorite. There are so many worlds in each window, and that little dog in the basket was too cute. There was also great chemistry between Stewart and Kelly. I notice that Jim Stewart has remarkable chemistry with each female co-star.
Add one hilarious nurse played by Thelma Ritter, and you have a masterpiece.

I have never liked scary movies. I always thought Alfred was a little creepy.

Hitchcock movies were scary (for the times), but did not warp people out like the terror flicks of today.
The terror movies today are beyond warped, and can leave the viewer more de-sensititzed to evil and terror.
It's in video games, and shows like The Walking Dead (where evil Negan is an anti-hero).
The riots and protests going on in this country are scary. If you are not of their political party, if you did not vote for them, they have hideous threats against you and who you helped elect.
Old Hitchcock gave you a lil scary fun. They kept you thinking throughout. So very different today.
They new movie tries to out-terrorize the audience from the previous hit terror movie.

Not too much of a Fan of Alfred Hitchcock, the only movie I know is the "Birds" movie.

The half hr and hr shows are on "ME"TV late at night.I watch them here and there.Im a fan.

I'm a huge Hitchcock fan and have recently gotten my fiancé into his movies. Rear Window is by far one of my favorite films he has done. It's incredible that he is able to take a whole movie that mostly takes place in one room the whole time and make it as intriguing and thrilling as it is. He was truly amazing!

I watched nearly good part of his romantic psychological thriller movies: Rear Window, The Birds, Psycho, Vertigo, To Catch a Thief, The lodger, The Paradine Case, Life Boat, Rope, The Wrong Man, The Snake Pit and Suspicion. I did a book report on him when I was in high school.

I actually took a semester-long class of Hitchcock's films and kind of learned what his mind was thinking when he came up with these films. 'Strangers on a Train' was one I had not seen (or heard of) prior to the class, but it's one of my favorites. 'Rebecca' is another. I always loved 'The Birds' and 'Rear Window' but now that I have seen so many more of his movies in the class, I have more interest in Hitchcock's films.

I like Hitchcock movies... my mother watched them in my youth, so that's how I've seen them all. I don't remember all the story lines, but they were always good.
Rear Window was well done, I've watched that one recently. It was on cable & I was sick so I watched that one & Vertigo.... also a good one. Funny now how the acting is always so dramatic, old movies - lol
Watch them all, maybe in small doses... :)
Reminds me of Quentin Tarantino movies with lots of dialogue & highly detailed character development.

Vertigo, yes, that is a good one! There are so many that are marvelous. I need to go back and watch these films. 'North by Northwest' is another that was great. The class I took was so fun because we got to watch all these movies, many of which I hadn't heard of before.

Not all of his movies are scary. I recently watched a movie called "The Trouble With Harry" with John Forsythe and a very young Shirley Maclaine (her first movie).
Hilarious!
I also just watched Frenzy which is from the early 70s, and I think "Dressed to Kill" took a bit from Frenzy. It had the same vibe. That was a creepy film.
I also love "The Man Who Knew Too Much" with James Stewart and Doris Day although he did that movie twice, the first time in the 30s. I have not seen the original yet.
Still though, Rear Window is by far, my favorite! Something about all of the windows and being drawn into that small room with James Stewart and Grace Kelly. There was a comforting intimacy in that film.''
The remake with Christopher Reeve had its own vibe, but of course it was not even close to being as good as the original.
I get obsessed though with looking on IMDB through cast members to see who is still alive.
LOVE this man's movies.

Niagara wasn't directed by Hitchcock, it was Henry Hathaway. Great film nonetheless!
Has anyone seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith (not the one with Brad and Angie)? It's a rare bird for Hitch, a comedy starring Robert Montgomery and Carole Lombard.

When it comes to Hitchcock, one of my very favorites is The Trouble With Harry. It's a rather lighthearted film with BEAUTIFUL New England scenery and a fun plot full of quirky characters.

Don't believe I have ever seen a Hitchcock movie. I've intended to see Vertigo for some time now. I believe it was filmed in one single shot without panning away. Have to see if it's available to watch somewhere.

I am a rabid Hitchcock fan and have seen Strangers on a Train and Dial "M" for Murder. I agree that neither was among his best. He did put out quite a few quick cheap ones to make like that, presumably to make a quick buck. But Psycho, Vertigo, and the other major films more than made up for this in my opinion.

Love Hitchcock films. I believe I have seen them all several times. If I find one on TV I stop whatever I"m doing to watch. To this day when there are a lot of blackbirds in my yard it gives me the chills. Great movies to watch on a rainy day.

I am sure I have seen both but it has been a very long time. My favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie will always be "The Birds". When I was young I thought that was the scariest movie ever but now compared to modern movies it would be considered mild I guess.

I absolutely agree. I think I mentioned it somewhere. It was Shirley Maclaine's first film. Not a weak character in the bunch.

While I love "The Birds," two things bothered the crap of me about that movie. First, that green suit was lovely, but by the end of the movie, I was sick of it. Second, I thought Suzanne Pleshette should have been lead. She's the better actress and far more beautiful than Hedren. But Hitch loves his blondes.

I don't think Hitchcock needed to make a quick buck. I don't see him as being one to sell out. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. I think that sometimes, a director tries to spread their wings and do something different, sometimes, it works, sometimes, it doesn't.
