It was The Exorcist for me....ohh and the Gargoyles movie!
-
For me it was, "THE THING"! and all I remember was when it broke down the door to the lab to attack those inside.

I relate to it well. The movies that were in black and white and showed less gore were the BEST!

Any scary movie traumatized me when I was a kid. The ones I most remember are The Fly, Naked Jungle and Tarantula, but there were many more.
There seems to be a theme here. I don't like insects and bugs, especially giant ones that want to eat you up or stomp on you.
I won't watch scary movies now if I can possibly help it.
:fish:

I was traumatized by R rated movies. Jaws scared me as well.
-
Definitely The Exorcist but I wasn't a kid. I was in my late 20s. We had just moved out of town to the country. It was too quiet and I had trouble sleeping. We went to see The Exorcist and that night, while trying to sleep, i heard "knock, knock, knock," on the bedroom ceiling. This kept up off and on for a couple hours. No sleep for me but hubby slept soundly all night. That was enough to want to move back to town. I found out later that week that it was a squirrel who was moving his stash of black walnuts around in the crawl space attic. it sounded like he was playing basketball with the walnuts. Imagine the relief I felt after that!
BTW, I have never, ever watched The Exorcist on TV. It still freaks me out.

i remember being a kid and watching pet sematary and freaking out --i had nightmares for the longest time
-
The Birds an then leaving the theater and seeing all the birds outside perched on the power lines
-
Steven kings sometimes they comeback
-
The Birds. Yes I am old enough to remember that. I wouldn't go outside for several days.
-
Jaws and Arachnophobia. My sister and I couldn't swim in a pool by ourselves till we were adults. I still get scared sometimes.
-
Pet Sematary was so scary. As a kid, my mom said I shouldn't watch horror movies because I would have nightmares... she was right. And I still haven't watched the Exorcist. :-\
-
The Birds, for me too. I still check...
-
Dracula
-
night of the living dead.....
-
OMG, the Chucky, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger series of movies used to scare the heck out of me on a serious level.
-
I just remembered another movie that was traumatizing to me and my husband. We went to see Rosemary's Baby when our own baby was about three months old. Neither of us felt very well after seeing that.
Oh, and someone mentioned The Exorcist. We saw that at a drive-in movie and could not believe we had actually watched such an awful movie! Eeeewwwww!
-
The Omen! There was just something so evil about that movie that it has stuck with me all my life. I think it was kind of like a follow-up to Rosemary's Baby but to me much more troubling. After that movie I gave up ever watching those kind of movies.
-
Jaws...wouldn't go in
the ocean anymore on family vacays to Florida..... :o :cat:

I wasn't really big into any scary movies as a kid so I don't know that I can honestly answer this question. I suppose I was afraid of the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz as a youngster, but the movie itself ended well enough so it didn't usually give me any nightmares. (Of course those flying monkeys were not to be taken lightly).
Several on here have mentioned Jaws - which I never saw as a child to be traumatized by it. But that is one of the movies on the schedule for Dive-In movies this summer at a local waterpark. I think they are setting up an external screen on site at the wave pool allowing park guests in the water to watch. Sounds like that could be fun/scary. No doubt there will be a few jokesters grabbing at the legs and feet of others when those famous bass tones pick up the tempo!
-
The Exorcist all the way.
-
Friday the 13th.
-
IT. I was done with clowns right there. That one did it

My mom and I went to Florida in 1975, i was 17 i went deep sea fishing and caught and landed a 298 about 11 feet long pound golden hammer head.. took 4 hours to land ! Turned my forearms black and blue just from the fight, MY goofy father had it mounted not thinking of it's size, showed up in a crate the size of Fred your ford! Needless to say it's hang in the zoo up where i used to live. I'm still afraid of sharks in the water , with my luck thats most likely next! :P :'( :P

That weird...that's the last year we went to Florida...I joined the Army in '76... ???

For me I would say 'The Day After'. It was a very graphic depiction of the aftermath of a nuclear bomb hitting land.
Where do you go, what do you do? I felt scared and hopeless.

I won't swim in anything but a small pool because of Jaws and 40+ years after watching Helter Skeler I still have nightmares about Charles Manson.
-
I would have to any horror movie and to this day I still not like them.
-
Hmm, probably Rambo, LOL! Watched it way too young.

Rambo rocks! :highfive:

problem child the crazy one
-
the omen and the prophecy

One movie I forgot to mention that was really scary. My cousin had just gotten her driver's license and we went to see "The Haunting of Hill House."
She told me later that she was really scared to drive home alone after she dropped me off. It was really spook-a-rama.
Oh, and what about "Body Snatchers"? Made you really think twice about falling asleep.
:fish:
-
Darkness Falls. The one with the evil tooth fairy, saw it again years ago and couldn’t sleep for like 2 weeks.
-
Escape to Witch Mountain and Charlotte's Web. But I'm using "trauma" here as in "really depressed/upset me."
-
Ju-on and ring definitely scared me to death!
-
The Freddie Krueger and Friday the 13th movies used to (and still) scare the living daylights out of me. But I am a sucker for the horror movie genre, so I continue to watch out of mere curiosity.
-
Gone with the wind - Civil War, banks failures, family quarrels and much more.
-
The Brave Little Toaster used to scare me so much, I haven't seen it in at least 15 years and I honestly think it might still freak me out, something about the weird animated kitchen appliances just weird-ed me out. Also puppets freaked me out, so any muppets movies were a define no-go. :-X
-
"The Blob" really scared me but there was another one that was even worse but I seem to have blocked most of it from my memory as I can't even remember the name. I just know it was something about ppl living underground in a big city and they were eating ppl. Gave me the creeps!
-
We as kids never watched scary movies.
-
Charlotte's Web, and Escape to Witch Mountain.
ETA: Ack! I already replied!
To branch out in my teens... Friday the 13th and The Last House on the Left. I saw them during a slumber party at my house; they were on ON TV (anyone remember that?)
-
Honestly ... Independence Day. The scene where they're cutting the alien in half and he wakes up ... still haunts me to this day.
-
I would say the movie jaws because I have not been good with deep water since watching
-
The Exorcist! It was loosely based on actual events and was one of the most profitable horror movies ever made. As a kid the levitating and speaking in tongues SCARED me so much!!
-
I wasn't allowed to watch scary movies. However, the first and only time I watched The Green Mile, I had horrible nightmares that night. I was an adult. :P
-
JAWS!
