Title: A new month and 30 posts!
Post by: sbenkoski on February 01, 2018, 12:40:30 am
Feb. Came way to fast and i'm starting to pack for my move, I lucked out and am only moving about a 1/4 of a mile down the same street i live on now, so I don't have to give up my beautiful view of the Mississippi River,  Have you ever moved ? Packing is insane, funny how much stuff we collect over time.

Moving is really when you discover just how much stuff you actually have. It really can be insane. And even moving 1/4 mile away, you still have to move all of it. At least you get to keep the view. Well done!

I, personally, moved 4 times in my life and 3 times with my parents.  the worse move was going from a 7 room apartment to a tiny 5 room house where a 9x12 carpet was wall-to-wall carpet, then our 1-bedroom bungalow where 7 rooms of furniture had to fit in 1 room (living room/bedroom combination.) until we built the edition.   :)

Moving is no fun, once it happens and ends, then you're glad it's over with.

We moved alot when I was a kid, I have lived in my house now for 40 years and I start getting rid of stuff when I retired last year. It is a slow go.  This year I will do all of the closet.

I hate to move, I am trying to buy the house I live in now for the past 13 years and I don't want to move.  I will get mover this time, but just packing things up is a job.

I never knew I was a packrat until I moved. My God did I accumulate a lot of stuff over the years. My favorites were handwritten letters, but it's not too practical to hang onto them so I ended up letting them go.

Boy, you are exactly right!  However, about 3-4 years ago I went through my clothing and realized I had way too much stuff.  I was having trouble finding a place to put it all.  I still have a lot but I threw out/donated about 3 garbage bags of clothing and 8 or 9 shoe boxes (I keep most of my shoes in their original boxes).  Funnily, last week I went through some papers and either threw out or shredded what amounted to a full paper grocery bag of stuff.  I still have a few more papers to go through.  Then I have to re-organize it all.

yes I hate the process of moving but I'm hoping that once I get my taxes that we will be able to move. I am so looking forward to being closer to work and driving less

I have moved several times and each time I moved I was amazed at how much stuff I would donate, If you move every 3-5 years  you sure can get rid of stuff. I don't why I have held onto so much. But  will probably be the last time I move unless something happens to hubby, then I will move. But that is because I can no longer  go and cut wood or cut it up  myself. Let alone do all of the yard work. We'll see.

One of my corporations was a Real Estate company. I offered a few cafe services when people used our Mortgage, title, and insurance company one of which was a moving truck. I was always amazed that people could take more than three days to move. I have moved three times in twenty six years and two of those were over twenty three years ago. My last move ocurred tweny years ago and I swore it would be my last move because of junk that we had accumulated. I have changed my stance and refrain from buying anything. Each year I clear out about a dozen boxes of files related to business or taxes that have hit their maturation points and ocassionally run across something in the crawl space that should have been purged years earlier. I do have about thirty cases of books that I should probably throw on line or donate to a library.

So far so good....LOL
I enjoy reading what you guys are talking about and doing.  I do skip over some people because they are always so negative about everything.   I have moved a few times and always dread it, just because of the accumulation of STUFF.  I have been donating about 1 - 2 big bags weekly of stuff lately to the Vietnam Veterans,  I feel good to get rid of the stuff and they can use for their store etc.

I've moved more times than I can count. It can be frustrating with lots of packing, organizing, and trying to haul you things from place to place. Than don't forget the cleaning the old place if your gonna sell or if you rent, you need this for your refund! Moving can be crazy at times!!!!!!!!

I have moved three times in my life. I will be hopefully moving one last time within a year or two. I'm not looking forward to packing everything up again because it is so much work.

yes.. move from a country to another country.. (HUUUUGE move)... than from one apartment in a city to another one in a city close by, smaller move... but regardless, packing everything, cleaning, etc.... it's a hard hard stressful thing

Almost all moved, but i have a jerk for a landlord, she told me what i can and can't store in my garage! Like my tread mill can't be in the garage, it goes in my spare bed room or  get rid of it ?? Nuts or what ??
