I hate to do it esp with fruit because it's a waste and the wild animals around here don't go crazy for it.If meat goes bad at least I know it gets eaten by coons, skunks and possums,I can cut the bad parts from bread for the birds but fruit is a total loss.
-
i do that sometimes with bell peppers...i mean to cut it up and use it but we change our mind on the food that night and i completely forget about them
-
Sometimes that happens when the schedule changes and so does the meal plan
-
Why I love bottled lemon juice and water( they don't spoil/rot if I don't consume them fast)
-
It happens sometimes when it gets pushed to the back of the fridge and "gets lost" :turkey:
-
Rarely, I never buy fresh food and forget to eat them I love fresh fruit.
-
I generally try to buy small amounts so it doesn't go bad
-
It happens sometimes

More often than I care to admit. I try to bring fruit to work with me every day. Just one serving, but I figure it's better than nothing. I typically make myself a moderately unhealthy salad (lol) while I'm waiting for my dinner to heat up or cook. I like salads with cheese, bacon bits, croutons, and ranch dressing. Yum!! I use a large portion of the lettuce I buy at the grocery store but I'd be lying if I said none of it went to waste.
-
Like someone else said, I buy smaller amounts so it doesn't go bad. Since we've retired I tend to not buy fresh veggies until the day I'm going to use them. I just hate to waste food. I will admit to at times leftovers go bad but it's unusual for fresh food to go bad in our house.
-
It happens a lot here. We put it in the crisper and forget it.
-
I am retired and live alone.
I have wasted food before, being used to buying bigger amounts when I was helping take care of 4 grandkids.
I had to leave myself a note to use up the apples or whatever.
Now, I am in the habit of carefully planning. Sometimes, I still make a note, if oranges or such are in the bottom of the fridge, but I try to be smart and frugal.

I only buy what I will eat in a 2 days time. I do't like wasting food it is expensive. Plus we live with in 5 minutes from our grocery
-
I rarely let any fruit or veggies go to waste like someone else I don't but a large amount at one time. I would love to when we go to Sam's or Walmart but since we live so far away from them it would go bad, so I buy from them about a weeks worth and we eat it right away or I cook it. Then go to our rip off grocery store more fresh foods, And I buy in limited amounts when I would love to have it all the time.
-
I used to do that, but hardly ever anymore. I try conscientiously to use up food before it goes bad.
It's a shame to let good food go to waste.

Sadly it happens way too often. Or we just couldn’t finish what we had bought. The kids will want something in the store but won’t eat it once we get home.
-
Whenever I buy fresh food I always eat it. I don't like wasting money.
-
I say about 60% of the time I forget there's fresh food that I just bought.
-
Fruits and vegetables never seem to go to waste in my house. We have salad almost every night and we all take fruit to go with our lunch. Bread is another story.
-
i do that very often,,,,,, >:( >:(

My husband is constantly buying way too much celery for some reason and it always starts to go bad. Have you ever heard of anyone being afraid they were going to run out of celery of all things? Milk, maybe, if you have kids, but not celery.
-
Sometimes, I try and keep fresh food towards the front of the refrigerator, but that does not always work out since the hubby makes a mess looking for things in the frig, and recently bought fresh food can get pushed behind other things; out of sight many times out of mind; I am trying not to over purchase so that the frig is not packed so tightly.
-
Lately it's happen to us a lot.
-
I HATE THAT, but I haven't done that in a while. Bread goes bad for me.
-
With some vegetables that I get, used once or twice and then forget to use them for days.
-
I always do that! Especially bagged salad or a head of lettuce. The bagged salad goes bad faster.
-
i dont buy that much and when i do i make sure to eat it because food is expensive
-
I'm pretty conscientious about using up food. Drives me nuts that the rest of my family is not and a lot of food gets thrown out often. I feel like gee, I wish I had so much money that I could literally throw it away too..
-
not very often,, I usually only buy what we can eat in 2 or 3 days. I love fresh food and fruit. I can go to the store which is 2 minutes away so we don't buy alot of things at once.
-
We try not to, but it happens sometimes. Mostly because of me. I'm currently pregnant, and have the strangest aversions when it comes to food. Like, we will be in the grocery store, and decide that steak is good to have, but then for some reason, when it comes time to cook it, I won't want it. It happens with pork and chicken too. But before my pregnancy, I wouldn't even bat an eye at not eating those foods. I'm a meat and potatoes kinda girl! But there is something about this pregnancy that makes me not want meat sometimes. I still try to eat it, since I know meat contains a lot of nutrients that are healthy for the baby. But every once in a while, I just have to pass it up!
-
unfortunately I do that too many times :( Especially with lettuce, and spinach
peppers, mushrooms I just throw in the freezer if they arent used up
-
It happens to us more often than it should. One of the biggest culprits is acorn squash. It stays fresh so long that I tend to put off cooking it until later. Then when I finally decide to cook it, it has developed a bad spot. I should learn from my mistakes!
-
I try not to let anything go bad but it does happen. Especially with fruit; it can look so good that I buy too much and it goes bad before I can eat it or give it away. My husband will eat fruit but only if I offer to wash and cut it up for him lol. When I buy a watermelon I will cut it, get the seeds out and cut into smaller pieces that I can put in a gallon jar. I love watermelon but its hard for me to eat one by myself. We rarely let meat of any kind go bad.
-
All the time. Dh buys whatever looks good, and then I get stuck trying to use it all.
-
Don't forget but purposely forget about spinach.
-
I do that more than I like to admit to. Lettuce and raspberries tend to go bad before I have a chance to eat them. As a result I tend to get a bag salads now and I buy more apples and oranges because they last longer cauliflower seems to be the one thing that I never have trouble finishing before goes bad because I put in a lot of different dishes. :rainbow: :peace:

I used to waste food a lot. When I was working, I'd buy stuff that no one else would eat but then I wouldn't make it for myself because I had this old-fashioned way that people need to sit down together and eat the same food. So the stuff I would buy for myself would go to waste.
Now that I'm 'retired,' I make it a point to feed him his favorites while I have my favorites. My tastes have changed and I no longer like a lot of foods that he does and so, I make my own. I would make eggs for supper while he would have ham. I make Fettucine Alfredo while he has spaghetti. I would have pierogies while he had barbeque pulled pork or beef. The Fettucine Alfredo was made cheap and not fancy, just 3 different older cheeses with a dash of bleu cheese dressing. Nothing goes to waste anymore. What's leftover is frozen, whether it's a tablespoon of something or a quart. Small amounts are held until I make that item again, then I use the frozen item, too.
My only problem is what do I do with leftover pasta? Seems I have a lot of that even though I try not to...and freezing makes it soggy, except for lasagna. Even the ferals won't eat pasta.
-
I am guilty of this. I have good intentions when I buy it then I sometimes forget about it.
-
I usually make a couple of small trips to the store each week and buy a couple of fresh things here and there. I don't wanna waste fruits and veggies and so far it is working. Sometimes I have to force myself to each the things I buy when I am not in the mood for it.
-
I tend to do that with fruit. I crave it at the store and after I eat some of it, the rest of it stays in the fridge till I have to throw it in the trash. Feel like it's a waste, but I don't tend to buy these items that often for that reason!!!!!!!!!!! :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover:

Unfortunately it isn't uncommon for me. But I really prefer having fresh fruits and vegetables. I'm trying to get better, but I insist on the fresh stuff either way.
-
I have bought fresh food and got so busy that I totally forgot to eat it. :(
-
It definitely is a commitment when you purchase fruit to eat... have to eat it up quickly. Except for apples, they seem to last for quite a bit of time.
I do give my vegetables when they are getting old to the animals. I buy day old/ discounted bread to give to the birds all the time. I think some animals come out to eat it as well at night. :)
-
it happens here now and then, usually with fruit. we will go awhile and not be able to keep fruit on the table, gets eaten up as fast as I can buy it. then other weeks I can buy it and it goes bad without being touched. it's hit and miss here.
-
Ive done it a time or two
-
When I buy fresh food I almost always make sure to eat it in a timely fashion, but my husband often doesn't. He is prone to buying celery over and over again for some reason, and we always have way too much of it in our refrigerator!
-
I truly hate wasting fresh food and esp. when I can't even give any of it to the animals to help them. Recently I had to completely discard 3 full containers of liver,a package of apples and mangoes that got squishy. The liver was so black that I was afraid even possums would get sick from it.
-
Never. At least, not anymore. I used to buy stuff with the "intention" of using it, but without a plan. Now, I'll make an extra trip to the store if I need something specific. It's much more economical.

It's funny how the food topics get so many replies, makes wonder a lil how many of you are fatties and how many not.
