Title: Riding a bike ?
Post by: sbenkoski on March 16, 2018, 03:47:00 pm
Do you ever ride a bike ? I used to before i got hurt, then a got a cool trike for grown ups. Now i just watch! My neighbor belongs to a bike club and they ride all over the USA,  and they go to a ride called RAGBRAI  and they ride bikes with tons of people across the whole state of Iowa. I guess it goes on all week and they have a blast.  Do you ride ? if so pleasure or sport, or to get to some place ?

Does a stationary bike count haha, I use to ride my bike with a friend of mine. I was in GREAT shape then. Today I don't think I would get as far but it was fun.

I have never ridden the RAGRAI bike ride across Iowa.  My brother-in-law and his two children do the ride every year.
RAGBRAI is an acronym and registered trademark for the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.   which is a non-competitive bicycle ride organized by The Des Moines Register and going from west to east across the U.S. state of Iowa, that draws recreational riders from across the United States and many foreign countries.

The route changes each year.  It has gone through my home town several years.  There are a LOT of bicylists!!

I don't ride bikes. Altho if I go to D.C., there are bikes people can use but drivers are not pedestrian friendly, so it's safer to walk.

As a kid I rode my bike all the time.  Everywhere.  Than I got my license and only pulled my bike out now and then.  The last time I'd hopped on a bike I had so much neck strain and stiffness I decided it was no longer for me.  Than I injured my knee and the therapist had me riding a stationary bike.  It felt great.  So much so I started saving for a bike to ride this summer.  I guess it was all in my positioning.  Once I get the right bike and it's set up I think I'm really going to enjoy riding again.

As a young girl I always had a bike and loved to ride. However, as an adult I never rode a bike. Now as a senior adult I am considering getting me a bike to ride. Living in the country I think I would feel safe riding on these traffic free country roads.

I loved to ride my bike when I was a kid and as an adult I really want to get myself one so I can go on bike rides with my kids. I just need more space to have a place to store my bike.

I had a Schwinn 5 speed Sting Ray with a banana seat and sissy bar when I was a kid late 60's early 70's.
Saw a beauty at an Antique mall...thought "oh cool...like I had when I was a kid"...thought maybe I'd buy it.
Figured it was probably $200 or so....figured I'd get it and ride around the neighborhood/go to the carryout for a little exercise.
Flipped the price tag over....$800 dollars!  :o :P

I have a life cycle, stationary recumbent bike that allows me to read and work while exercising. It is so old that I do not think that it is calibrated correctly. I bike for forty five minutes and am left sweating profusely and coughing up a lung whereas when I get to the gym (on my rare day off) I can go for an hour and really need to crank up the speed and tension in order to get the same result. We have a gym at my daytime job and I do not have enough time to go to it because I am always working (pretty sad). I still manage to get out and take the dogs for a walk every morning and every evening. Thank heaven for the responsibility of my little four legged, furry friends. I gave my mountain bike to my college age son and doubt that he has used it yet.

Growing up I occasionally wrote a bike until I was maybe nine or 10. I never really enjoyed it because I  have balance issues.  The one bike I  remember riding and enjoying was my red tricycle.  :rainbow: :peace:

My younger days I rode a bike as much as possible. But after my car wrecks the doctor took them away from me because of a possible wreck and would  break my hip the rest of the way  I live with a major crack in it as it is. So why tempt fate. Although when  the grandson was small I did cheat and ride some but only because we were going pretty slow. Once he was  really good on a bike I just turned him loose on the dirt roads behind the house and kept an eye out on him and so did the neighbors.

I haven't been on a motorcycle in a long time. I only was a rider not the driver. I don't think I would want to own a motorcycle. I do think motorcycle's are cool though!  :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover:

Me and my gf may ride our bikes soon when weather warms up that is lol Riding a bicycle is a very healthy activity especially if you can't find anywhere to walk where there's no concrete lol

I haven't ridden a bike since I was a little girl!  I had the old fashioned type, very heavy with no hand controls.  My daughter's mother-in-law has taken up bike riding and loves it.  I think I'll leave the riding to her!  She's from Iowa, so perhaps she'll be riding in that event described above.  I know she is training for a long ride!
