I do not know if it is all the stores or just my local store but the prices at OUR store are going up in huge leaps and bounds. They are basically shooting themselves in the foot because more and more people are turning to online shopping.
Between raising prices every week and constantly moving stuff around and you can't find anything people are just getting fed up.
I have noticed several items that have went up at least 20 cents a week for the past few weeks. I live in a smaller town and there isn't really any where else to shop except a grocery store and Dollar General BOTH of which the prices are at least 50 cents higher on each item.
Has any one else noticed the prices going up at their stores?

I think everywhere the prices are going up because of the gas price.

I think everywhere the prices are going up because of the gas price.
I don't think the price of everything is going up because of gas prices. Everything is going up every where. Including gas. And gas goes up every summer. That isn't anything new and the price of everything else doesn't go up every summer then come down in the fall. I believe a lot of it is because all the people stomping and demanding higher wages. I said when all that first started if wages are increased the price of everything else will go up. People wanted to argue and said it wouldn't make a difference.
Well here we are a couple years later....
Wages have been increased almost every where....
And prices are so high people can't afford them. SO.
What have we learned? Most likely nothing. lol Big companies are not going to take the hit. The will pass the extra cost along to the consumer. So people are no better off than they were before.
You can increase min wage to $20 an hour. But then a gallon of milk will cost $17 a gallon so you do not have any more money. You check is bigger but it costs more to live. People can't seem to grasp that. People also can't seem to grasp living within your means. I promise you won't die if you don't eat steak.

I haven't been in a WM in many years. The ones near me are run-down and very crowded. A friend and I were talking and it seems that (according to her) prices between WM and Target are very similar now. There is a Target within walking distance of my house and that's where I go anyway, glad to hear I'm not wasting my time/money shopping around.
-
I haven't noticed an increase in prices at our local Wal-Mart. Their motto is that they are always lowering prices. I guess maybe with gas prices on the rise they might have to increase prices.
-
It makes it difficult if on a budget.
-
I haven't noticed any price increase. Will check it out next time I go to Walmart.
-
I haven't noticed a price increase yet.
-
I haven't noticed any either. Our Walmart is remodeling to have the new pick up groceries option.

I don't shop at Target. Doesn't matter though because the closest one to me is too far to drive just to shop there. The problem is a lot of smaller towns don't have anything but a Walmart and then maybe a Dollar General which is about twice the price of Walmart. So some people don't have a choice.
If things work out the way I am hoping I will be ordering most of my non-perishable items online in the near future.
-
To the ones who have not noticed any increase. In our town you can't help but notice. Like I said most items in recent months have increased by at least 50 cents or more. That's why I asked the question. I wondered if it is ALL of them or just ours or the ones in smaller towns that turn a smaller profit and have to make up for paying the employees four plus dollars more an hour.
I know use to the toy department and the cart pushers were making $7.25 and now they are making $11. Like I said, Walmart won't take the hit. It will be passed on to consumers. Which in turn will hurt them because people will shop elsewhere. People are already doing more and more shopping online especially with more and more companies offering free shipping.
-
I haven't noticed the price is going up but everything is so hot anyway it's hard to tell I do shop at Walmart we have a little Neighborhood Market here which is just a nice little small market and it's not like those big Supercenters and I can shop in it much better and it's very close to my home
-
I think Wal-Mart is supposed to be a low price store, but other stores are raising their prices just as high, Bi-Lo and Publix are just as high, so no where is cheap, except maybe Aldi's.
-
I think you mentioned it correctly. Ordering on line is the way to go especially if you get free shipping. I think clothes that I have to try on are the only things I wouldn’t buy online.
-
i mostly shop at walmart and amazon..instore at walmart and online for both...i have health issues so it is easier for me to do online
-
I learned a long time ago to watch prices, buy when on sale in multiples. Then you have it on hand till it goes on sale again.
When coupons available for your products, get them. There are a few great coupon sites online where you can buy your coupons in multiples just a few cents on the dollar. Been doing that for years.
Then when you can combine a sale with a coupon also, you can save plenty.
Been doing that for years, and taught my grand-daughters to do that.

I shop a regular Walmart Supercenter and a Neighborhood Market depending upon what I'm needing. Haven't noticed price increases, they're (sadly) still the cheapest place in town. The Neighborhood Market is just around the corner from a Publix which is sometimes close to twice as much for the same brand/size items than Walmart... unless you hit the frequent bogo free sales at Publix, then the prices are more palatable.
-
I shop at Walmart when we go out of town since we don't have one. Yes I have noticed some prices have gone up. You would think all Walmart stores would have the same prices but they don't. If we drive to Amarillo they are higher then the store in another town we go to and then when travel a different way their Walmart is a few cents cheaper. Weird. Hate having to shop at different stores to save a little. But am starting to order more on line then ever before because of the gas prices. When I only need a few things here I buy it and wait until we have to go out of town for the meats some things I can't order. Oh well
-
I buy very little here at our grocery store as their prices are way out of line with the bigger stores out of town. so I stock up when we travel out of town. Then order somethings I often need but don't want to spend the money for gas just for a few items so I order them until we have to go out of town again. always for doctors. So I don't notice the prices going up a whole lot, but know they do a little. I buy in bulk whenever I can.
-
The min. wage went up, so prices goes up. The stores pass the buck onto the consumers.
-
Walmart has a lock in our area ~ no competitors so they can charge what they wish.
-
I have not noticed but will look next time I go. I do like Walmart a lot though.
-
That is what Walmart does the come in to a city and sell for low. Get rid of other mom and pop business . Then raise there prices.
-
I may pay a little more but I shop at a grocery in my town where I get assistance which I don't/wouldn't at Wal--mart. I need this because of my difficulty with mobility. Also it is just plain and simply a pain all the way around shopping at wal-mart - the last time I was there there only had one register with a cashier and all the others were self service with horrendously long lines. I do shop at wal-mart but online.
-

I will buy t-shirts online but nothing else. I bought a pair of Reebok tennis shoes in the size I wear in that specific shoe and I get it and it is about 2 inches too long for my foot. There was a size on the box but not in the shoe. I sent them back to Amazon at their expense. Shoes and jeans I need to try on.

Sadly, even with price increases they are cheaper than any where else. :(

The Walmart a couple counties over from me has lower prices than ours does. Like you mentioned gas prices stop a lot of people from driving farther.

The min. wage went up, so prices goes up. The stores pass the buck onto the consumers.
Min wage did not go up. The last minimum wage increase was in 2009. Walmart increased their starting pay but minimum wage has not increased. I do agree though that when Walmart increased it's pay wages that is why their prices are going up. People kept screaming they can afford to pay more and it won't effect prices and protesting for higher wages even if they didn't work there. And well, now, they are going to help pay those higher wages. Walmart nor any other business is going to take the hit.
-

They do here too. And being a small town we could not support another bigger chain store.
That is what Walmart does the come in to a city and sell for low. Get rid of other mom and pop business . Then raise there prices.
That's not really how it works. And most people are glad to have Walmart. I can get a huge package of toilet paper for less than $10 at Walmart or buy it from the mom and pop shop in town for $27. The mom and pop shops as you call them charge way too much for their stuff.
We have a Dollar Tree and we have people who know when the trucks come in and they hang out in the stores all day while stock is put out and buy all of certain products. For ex. they have cans of French Onion Dip - they get 24 in and some jack wagon from a country store buys them ALL, pays no tax, then takes the dip he got for $1 and sells it for $2.99 in his store. I could care less if they all go under. And the one woman will actually fight other customers to make sure SHE gets it all.

Have you asked for help at Walmart? Usually if you ask for assistance they will help you. You may have to wait a bit for a cart pusher to come but they will usually help. I do agree about the having one register open and then the self check outs. I would rather order from Amazon than Walmart.com because Walmart still profits. I think they need to be knocked down a few notches myself.
-
Went to win Co really good prices on food. Walmart is good for some things lIke medicine.
-
Yes I notice the walmart prices getting higher. I think they have marketed so many people now and they starting to raise prices.
-
i wish walmart would do something about their awful check out lines smh
-
i havent really noticed a price increase but i dont shop that often there
-
I have not been In a Walmart in 7 years so i have no clue. I hate big box stores.
-
I haven't noticed the price increase yet. Hopefully everything doesn't skyrocket too much.
-
i wish walmart would do something about their awful check out lines smh
That isn't going to happen. They are going to have as little cashiers as possible. Got to save money.
I haven't noticed the price increase yet. Hopefully everything doesn't skyrocket too much.
I am afraid they will. Every where. Every one wanted higher wages so now we are paying for it. You can't have top premium products and employees making $15 an hour and products be sold at the same prices. The CEO and owners are not going to take the hit.
It's the same with McDonald's. I stopped in there a couple days ago and they wanted $2 for 4 tiny chicken nuggets. I passed on that and got the $1 cheese burger which most likely had no real meat in it whatsoever.
-
Yeah things keep going up that is for sure. Every now and then you get a deal and then all of a sudden that deal is gone. I guess you just keep shopping around the best you can. If you go some place stop in some wheres and see what their prices are.
-
Prices have not went up in our area yet. It probably also depends on what the overhead is to keep your area store up. If the volume is low prices will go up. I am always surprised when people get so upset over someone making enough money to support their family, without having to work several jobs. Prices go up even when nothing happens to cause it like gas or wages. This summer the gasoline in our area has went up to its highest ever and because of a housing shortage in our area the rents and hose prices have really jumped.
-
Prices are going up every where. There doesn’t seem to be just one store. :confused1:

You are not understanding. Yes Walmart raised their pay to $11 an hour. So yes, your pay check is bigger. BUT the prices of everything went up so you pay more for your food, electric, and everything else so in reality you aren't making any more than you were before.
That is the only reason prices have went up so much. I actually had a manager at the store tell me this.
-
They must of given Meijer employees a raise...everything is 10-15% higher than Walmart.... :bad: :o
-
I don't like Walmart to much, I go when I can't find things elsewhere.
-
I don't like Walmart to much, I go when I can't find things elsewhere.
It is the only place we have in the town I live in. Can't afford and do not want to drive 45 minutes to go to another store. And like you said, Walmart has it when nobody else does.
-
Walmart price is higher and higher. We have about 6 or 8 stories in a 15 mile of us. We have learned to compare and get certain things at each store. I have used Amazon and Walmart mail order for part of what we get.
-
I hate going to Walmart, their are never enough registers opened and the self check out never seems to work.
-
Unless an item goes up significantly, I don't usually notice the increase in price. I try to do most of my shopping online. It's more convenient.
I'm not a big Wal Mart shopper anyway. Both Wal Mart and Target offer free shipping if you spend so much, so it's worth it especially if you have to drive mile and miles to get to a local store.
Also, there are rebate companies like Ebates that give you cashback if you shop online at stores that partner up with them. Wal Mart is one of them.

 :star:  Price's have been going up everywhere for years. I'm unsure that price's will go down. Which makes a living much harder to get. I've noticed a small change in Walmart though! :star:

Of course they will not go down. Companies are being forced to raise their pay rates. So everything goes up to compensate for that. That is what people cannot seem to understand. You can scream til you die Walmart can afford to pay more. The owners and CEO and big shots at Walmart are not going to give up part of their pay to the little man, the uneducated twit running a register or stocking a shelf. It is the same with other companies.
I recently applied for a job unsure exactly of the pay and hours but after turning in resume and talking to hiring manager find out the job is only 20 hours a week and pays $9 an hour. And the 4 hours are in the middle of the day so you can't do anything else. You can't live on that. And the more companies like Walmart are forced to pay higher wages and the more the cheapest places to shop raise their prices the harder it is for anyone to make it.

Hello! :D :)
I'm in New York so of course prices have gone up. I remember earlier years when I went food shopping and I could've gotten a lot of food. Now a dollar just don't go as far. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I haven't noticed that at ours but, I don't really shop there that often.
-
I was at our local WalMart the other day,,, hadn't been there in a few weeks. And Yes the prices have gone up on things. I have a feeling that people are doing more online shopping and it is effecting the actual stores. I like to see what I am buying when it come to food. I won't be buying food online.
-
Got to be careful on what is on sale, they compete, with the dollar stores. I did learn something while walking through Walmart here, they have Walmart radio. lol
-
More people are probably using their online service since they offer free shipping and you don't need to buy a membership like Amazon (who is their biggest competitor).
-

I may have to check the ebates thing out. Don't know much more than the name. I can't have stuff delivered when I am not home though. Or my neighbors will help themselves to it.

That is why they done that. But there are still tons of things you can find at Amazon that Walmart does not carry.
-
I notice this happening in Market Basket. Pancakes jumped up 25 cents. And the frozen fruit did so as well, strangely making the regular, the same price as the organic!
-
I went in yesterday after noon and was going to grab the single serving chocolate milk. The small 12 oz bottle was $1.69 cents. So not only has the price went up almost 70 cents but they have started selling a smaller size which actually makes it even more expensive. Needless to say - I just left it in the cooler. I refuse to pay that much.
-
I think it's the minimum wage increasing. I'm not economics expert but it seems the prices of lots of things are based on the minimum wage, so that no matter how high you make it, prices overall will scale up and mw workers are hardly better off. Or else places will do like McDonald's and put in self ordering kiosks so they don't have to pay human cashiers anymore.
-
I have not notice that much of a change with Walmart prices in my area. I am not surprised they are going up though because prices are going up every where else. I don't like the look of their online website anymore.
-

I have not been on the actual website just the mobile app. It is okay after you get more use to it. I wish there was somewhere else to make purchases. Locally making physical purchases there is no where for me. I need to look in to ordering more stuff online.

Min wage was not increased. The min wage has not been increased in over 10 years.
You are correct though as wages are increased prices will be increased and you don't really have any more money. But people are too stupid to see that.
McDonald's does not have self ordering. Very few places do. Most have cashiers. Grocery stores and Walmart have some self check out. And yes, it is going to go more to that because businesses can have less people and more machines.
-
dollar stores are looking better and better
-
i have done more shopping at dollar tree
-
dollar stores are looking better and better
Not if you look at prices. Dollar General - almost every item is at least 50 cents more than Walmart. At least where I live.
-
i have done more shopping at dollar tree
I use to do that until I got to looking at it is way cheaper at Walmart. Look at the quantity you get for a dollar. You get a bigger package at Walmart for less money Even if it is a few cents more at Walmart you get more product. I got a box of trash bags at Dollar Tree once and then noticed when I got home it had 8 bags in it. At Walmart I could have got one that had 32 bags in it and paid around $3.
-
I have discovered in the last 2 or 3 days that the Walmart that is 45 miles from us in the same county the price are a much as 5 dollars difference in what we buy. we usual do only big trip to Walmart we my have to start going their.
-
It's called inflation, gas prices, and tariffs. You will probably be feeling the effects of these in coming months in various ways and through various channels. From what I have read, raw materials are costing more and things such as coke in cans and packaging on Pampers are examples of items that will be or are already on the rise.
-
You are right some of the items are higher and continuing to move things around is a pain. As soon as I memorize where things are, they change it. The clerk told me companies pay to have their products on certain shelves. They claim to price match but the process is confusing to me. I check the sales at all the stores and go for the best price. I mostly get fruits and vegetables.
-
I've noticed rising prices at Walmart instead of the "falling prices" they brag about lol. Very frustrating as our grocery bill has gotten too high for us retired folks living on SS
-
I have noticed that. It is crazy. There are so many empty buildings around because of online shoppers.
-
I bought a microwave from Walmart for a cheaper price and it is great
-
I have noticed that. It is crazy. There are so many empty buildings around because of online shoppers.
Well maybe if employees treated customers a little better people would not be flocking to online shopping. Besides the fact that it is usually cheaper and lately everyone offers free shipping.
I have recently started doing more online shopping. We have a Walmart and a Dollar General and a Dollar Tree. That is it. Dollar General is about 50 cents higher on every item and Dollar Tree is junk. Or the quantity is so low that you are still paying more. Most people are not smart enough to figure that part out.
Our Walmart the employees are rude. They seem to think they can treat people however they want because there literally is no where else to go. But here is the thing, we can order online, and lower sales volume means less hours. So they are just screwing themselves.
-
I haven't noticed any huge price hikes but I do most of my grocery shopping at the local grocery store rather than Walmart. I'll pay closer attention the next time I go shopping. What annoys me is having to wait for the sales -- I wish they'd keep the items on sale all the time rather than playing the game where regularly bought items are a different price every week.
-
I buy online most of the time. This is the future, unfortunately.
