I forgot to check to see whether or not my computer’s battery was plugged in and charging before I left home. I leave my computer running for a while because I get paid to let video offers automatically run via other sites for making money online (usually MyPointSaver). If I leave the computer running on battery power (i.e., without the battery’s charging) for a prolonged amount of time, will that do damage? BTW, my computer runs on Windows 8.1.

I know I shouldn't but I leave mine plugged in and charging all the time. It is a waste of electricity and it might be bad for the computer (although I doubt it because my laptop is 8 years old and still going) oh well I am interested in seeing what other more knowledgeable folks say about it.

My laptop is plugged in 24/7 and it has been like this since 2012 since I got it. I have never had a problem with it and I would not trade it for anything :)

it could and could also mess up the hard drive i know because i had this happen

I think it depends on how well it is limited too, keeping it plugged for hours, it will run hot for over charging.

only thing i have ever heard is using more electrical power...my hubbys stays plugged in all the time...

My pc is on all the time. But my laptop which runs on battery, I only unplug when I'm away from an outlet. Don't know if that is all correct, but that's how I do it.

Years ago we used a laptop from rent-a-center. And the kid there told us that if we use an outlet to remove the battery because the battery won't last if you do that. I have a laptop...going on 4 years with the thing and I leave it plugged into the wall for hours....days on end... running video's like you do. I clean it up as often as I can. Defrag etc... and when I'm baking I remove it from the wall power source and run off the battery alone. Sometimes I've forgotten to plug it back in...go back to running video's until it's dies. No problems for me so far.

No. When the battery runs out of juice if that is what is supplying the computer then the computer will just shut off.
It does not matter what version of Windows you are running. The battery does not know what it is supplying power to. :D
You can also run the computer 24/7 plugged in to the wall with the battery connected and it will not hurt anything.

It won't hurt it and it isn't bad for it to leave it plugged in all the time. Don't see it as a waste of electricity either especially if you turn it off when you aren't using it such as at night.

That is most likely not what messed up your computer. Most people leave their laptops plugged in all the time or they run off battery and the battery often goes dead and the laptop has to be plugged in to restart it. It can't hurt anything.

Mine doesn't. Mine stays plugged in all the time. It has never got hot. And it doesn't over charge. Once the battery is full it just sits there until it is needed.

Well apparently from the responses I am not the only one who leaves their computer/laptop plugged in all the time. Like I said I have done this for 8 years so ......... I love my laptop but sooner or later (I hope later am gonna have to get new one anyway)

All I can tell you about is my experience. I have had my present laptop for a little more than 5 years. Pretty long for a laptop, I understand. I leave my laptop plugged in 95 % of the time, and that is ever since I got it. Now are there some minor problems? Of course, it is old for a laptop! But nothing major!! So based on my experience, you can leave that thing plugged for long periods of time? Yea, buddy!

no problem leaving the laptop plugged in for long periods of time

My lap top is about 8 years old and stays plugged in all the time.
